Five years ago, she might have shoutedat the chair umpire. Three years ago, she might have turned to the crowd and let out one of her patented, bellowing screams. In 2015 however, Serena Williams calmly asked chair umpire Kader Nouni to quiet down the frenzied crowd at Centre Court in between points of her third-round match, as somefanswere oohing, aahing and gasping at every ball that landed within two feet of a line, rootingon the hometown hope in No. 59 Heather Watson.
But Serena wouldnt be Serena if she didnt give it just a little attitude. After her brief chat with Nouni,Serena turned, waved her finger in the nuh-uh fashion at the crowd and said dont try me with a little bit of that 2009 U.S. Open vibe in her.
There were a few immediate boos but most cheered the announcement to quiet down,as its always a few people ruining it for everybody else. Serena, buoyed bythe newfound silence on Centre Court, went on to survive the match in three sets.

Rafael Nadal vs Dustin Brown SET 1-2 Wimbledon 2015 Highlights [HD 720p]
You cant miss Dustin Brown, but you can, apparently, mistake him. As he made his way to practice court No4 at lunchtime, a little boy lifted up a tennis ball for him to sign, and his mum, momentarily confused, said: Thank you, Gal. When someone nearby pointed out her mistake, she was mortified: Im so sorry, Dan.
Brown responded with one of his wide smiles, and in doing so won over yet another fan. Ive just offended him twice, and hes been very gracious, she giggled, as he wandered away, his red headphones clamped to his ears. I like him even more now.
Further along, a couple of young men eagerly discussed the technicalities of how the 30-year-old had managed to beat Rafa Nadal. Ten minutes earlier, the crowd hadnt been speaking at all: watching Roger Federer hit, you might have thought Fridays one-minute silence had lasted a half-hour. Then Brown arrived someone who inspires effervescence, rather than a reverential hush. From the moment he released his magnificent dreadlocks from his cap, and tied them back with a piece of red string, he had everyones attention. Even poor James Ward, walking past the queue of onlookers, went unnoticed.
It was only a gentle practice for Saturdays match against Viktor Troicki and he didnt need to run far, not with those long, lean arms and legs that stretched across the court to thwart Nadal. He kept most of his trick shots under wraps he later claimed that he is not working on anything new but his clever hands couldnt keep themselves quiet, spinning his racket on his wrist in between exchanges.
Browns entourage is a fluid affair Scott Wittenberg flew out to coach him after qualifying, and he enlists the ad hoc help of an ATP tour analyst, Craig OShannessy. Its loose and casual but that works, it fits, says OShannessy, who suggests that if Brown had a full-time coach it would probably last about three months. Theres also Browns agent, Scott Norton. Theyve known each other for a long period of time so theres a lot of trust, a lot of positive energy, says OShannessy. When Dustin looks up to the box and sees Scott doing this he pumps his chest he grows another six feet.
A couple of friends from home were watching Brown practise and confirmed there had indeed been a small celebration on Thursday night in the house that they are renting near Southfields. We only had one drink! they cried, but still, that drink was champagne. Browns practice partner, meanwhile, looked too young to drink. He turned out to be a junior who met him two years ago at the Mnchengladbach sports club in Germany.
Being a black youth in north Germany had its problems for Brown growing up. The village next to my town was infamous for being a n**i stronghold, he said earlier this week. We were three or four coloured kids around and sometimes the other ones showed up with knives after school.
But it made him neither hard nor angry. Hes so chilled, said his young hitting partner, Tim Sandkaulen. Two days ago he gave me his Centre Court tickets. This morning I texted him and said congrats, and he said thanks and you want to hit today? Whats the hardest thing about facing him? His drop shots. You cannot see it when he plays it. There is no one like him. Thats why hes so dangerous for all the players because you dont know whats coming.
After the practice, there was time for a few words with Brown himself. He talked about the tattoo of his dad (it took eight hours, he listened to music to deal with the pain), and his hair (last cut in August 1996). He did not talk about his British grandmother I am pretty sure she does still live here but theres no direct contact or his campervan experiences (thats a very old story).
But he did admit it had taken him a while to get to sleep after the adventures of Thursday evening. I ended up getting to dinner, it was already 11pm, so it took a bit of time to wind down. His extremely glamorous-looking girlfriend, Dione Gonzales, has been rooting for him from Las Vegas on Twitter would she be coming to watch him? Were not sure yet. Were still waiting. Going to see how I play tomorrow and then well decide.
Financial concerns have limited more than his entourage they have had an impact on his rise up the rankings. He cant go to the tournaments he wants to, says OShannessy. And hes playing a game style that naturally takes more time to develop. That makes it a slower burn for him.
Brown is relaxed. I guess it just takes a long time for everything to fall in place, he says. And maybe three, four, five or six years ago, I wasnt ready for it. Who knows, for whatever reason? The things that are happening now, I just try to enjoy it as much as I can.
Kobe Bryant vs Monta Ellis EPIC Duel Highlights 2011.01.12 Lakers at Warriors - 77 Pts Total!
The Indiana Pacers declined hitting the reset button on the organization last summer after Paul Georges gruesome leg injury and Lance Stephensons free agent departure. Stubbornly, team President Larry Bird chugged along with a depleted, injury-ravaged roster that missed out on the postseason and declared afterward that finally it was time to take a different approach to be competitive in a new wave NBA.
The Pacers revamp has already involved David Wests stunning decision to decline a $12 million option to flee for a contender and Roy Hibbert could soon be on the move in a trade. But Bird made another significant, cosmetic change to his roster when he snagged free agent shooting guard Monta Ellis with a four-year, $44 million deal.
Elliss arrival is congruent with the Pacers desire to be an up-tempo, high-scoring team after Indiana spending most of the past three seasons under Coach Frank Vogel as a plodding, deliberate, half-court crew. In a 10-year career through Golden State, Milwaukee and Dallas, Ellis has thrived on running teams and attacks the basket better than most. Ellis has the highest scoring average of any active player to never make an all-star team (19.5 points) and has been on teams that averaged at least 100 points seven times.
The Mavericks were eager to part ways with Ellis as his penchant for tunnel-vision gunning and often surly attitude rubbed wrong many in the organization. But Bird actually loves the scoring outbursts and edge that Ellis will provide for a team that ranked 24th in offense last season and that lost some of its nastiness when Stephenson left. George returned for six games last season and is working diligently to return to his old all-star form. Ellis will take some of the scoring burden off George, having already done the same in Dallas, where he ended Dirk Nowitzkis 15-year run as the teams leading scorer.
Ellis, 29, turned down a larger offer from the Sacramento Kings worth $48 million over four years, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The Kings cleared considerable cap space on Wednesday by making a bold perhaps dangerous salary-dump deal with the Philadelphia 76ers that shipped out Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Nik Stauskas, a future first-round pick and two future pick swaps. The moves were made to possibly reunite Ellis with Rajon Rondo, his back-court mate in Dallas, or Wesley Matthews. The difference in salary couldnt persuade Ellis to take a ride with what currently holds the honor as the leagues most dysfunctional franchise.
An undersized shooting guard at 6-foot-3, Ellis can also make plays for his teammates as a facilitator. Ellis shouldnt have too much trouble playing with a non-traditional point guard in George Hill since he has made a career of sharing the backcourt with ball-dominant guards from Baron Davis to Stephen Curry to Brandon Jennings to Rondo. He opted out of the $8.7 million left on his contract to enter free agency. The Pacers gave Ellis the raise he wanted while meeting his personal and professional needs: The team has a chance to get back into the playoff picture; Indianapolis is about a seven-hour drive from the offseason home Ellis maintains in Memphis; and his wife, Jaukina, plans to attend law school in Indiana.
Our objective entering the free agency period was to place Monta in a position where he can flourish on the court with a playoff team and winning culture, while providing a welcoming community off the court for his young family, Elliss agent, Jeff Fried, said in a statement. Indiana accomplished both of these goals in a meaningful manner.
The Pacers became the first team since Cleveland in 2010-11 to miss the playoffs the season after finishing the conferences best record. They found an identity as a big, physical team that worked inside with Hibbert and West and outside with the dynamic George. That style translated into success as Indiana made back-to-back trips to the Eastern Conference finals, where they were unable to defeat LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat.
The timing of Georges injury couldnt have been worse since it coincided with James leaving the Heat and creating a more wide open path to the Finals. Bird is attempting to start over without tanking but West who will soon turn 35 didnt bother to watch how it all unfolds. West told WTHR.com, We tried it in Indiana a couple of years; I was really, really disappointed when Paul got hurt, but I just felt like the window was slammed shut.
Bird is hopeful that a streaky scorer in Ellis and a healthy George can crack the window open again and run right through it.
