USS Zumwalt begins sea trials
The USS Zumwalt, the Navy"s biggest and most expensive destroyer ever built, heads out into the Atlantic Ocean on Monday, December 7. The ship is out at sea for the first time to undergo sea trials.

The USS Zumwalt leaves the Kennebec River in Phippsburg, Maine, on December 7. The ship and its class are named in honor of Adm. Elmo R. "Bud" Zumwalt Jr., who served as chief of naval operations from 1970 to 1974.

Deputy Defense Secretary Bob Work speaks with the Zumwalt crew during a visit to Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine, on May 12. Work toured the ship and observed its progress. One thing that sets the $3 billion ship apart is its very small crew. Compared with about 300 sailors needed for similar warships, the Zumwalt"s minimum compliment is only 130. The smaller crew is made possible by advanced automated systems which "make it much easier and much more effective for the sailor to operate," says former Navy Capt. Wade Knudson, who now serves as Zumwalt program director for Pentagon contractor, Raytheon.

U.S. stocks fell for a second day on Tuesday after a wave of selling abroad on fears that a slump in commodity prices was far from over.
The selling began in Asia on disappointing trade figures from China, then spread to Europe where stock indexes in Germany, France and Britain each dropped more than 1 percent. In the U.S., stocks fell sharply in the morning, but later made back much of the losses.
Still, the selling was broad, with nine of the 10 sectors of the Standard and Poors 500-stock index closing down. Suppliers of raw materials fell the most, down 1.9 percent. Energy companies dropped 1.5 percent.
A big focus for investors oil slid again. After dropping for a year and a half, U.S. benchmark crude costs just $37.51 a barrel, near a seven-year low.
The energy sector has done a good job grappling with mid-$40 oil, but its tougher as you go under $40, said Doug Cote, chief market strategist at Voya Investment Management. The energy sector is having trouble adapting.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 162.51 points, or 0.9 percent, to 17,568. It was down 245 points earlier.
The S.&P. 500 gave up 13.48 points, or 0.7 percent, to 2,063.59. The Nasdaq composite slipped 3.6 points, or 0.1 percent, to 5,098.24.
In Asia, Chinese customs data showed exports from the worlds second-largest economy contracted 6.8 percent in November, worse than Octobers 3.6 percent fall. Imports dropped 8.7 percent.
Mining stocks in particular were slammed because China is a major importer of raw materials, accounting for as much as 50 percent of global demand, according to consultants PwC. Freeport-McMoRan slumped 49 cents, or 7 percent, to $6.74. Its down 71 percent this year.
John Manley, chief stock strategist at Wells Fargo Funds, said raw material suppliers ramped up production too much a few years ago as China stoked its economy after the global financial crisis.
It surprised producers that China was soaking up so much, Manley said. As China slows, and shifts to more consumer growth, these producers have been hit.
Iron ore, off 43 percent since the start of 2015, fell again Tuesday, shedding 15 cents to close at $39.25 a metric ton. Copper inched up less than a penny to $2.05 a pound. It is down 29 percent this year.
Among other stocks making big moves, Outerwall plunged $14.02, or 24 percent, to $44.04 after lowering its earnings forecast and announcing that the head of its movie-kiosk division, Redbox, was leaving as rentals fall.
Chipotle Mexican Grill fell $9.51, or 1.7 percent, to $542.24 on reports that 80 Boston College students were sickened after eating at one of the companys restaurants. The stock is down 21 percent so far in 2015 as the food chain struggles with the fallout from an E. coli outbreak linked to its restaurants. The company said it believes the Boston College cases are due to the norovirus, not E. coli.
Norfolk Southern fell $5.20, or 5.7 percent, to $86.32 after rejecting Canadian Pacifics latest takeover offer. Norfolk Southern has said it doubts regulators would approve the merger anyway. Canadian Pacific fell $4.35, or 3.3 percent, to $126.13.
U.S. government bond prices were flat. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note held steady at 2.23 percent. The euro edged up to $1.0897 from $1.0843 late Monday. The dollar fell to 123.02 yen from 123.33 yen.
Precious metals futures closed mixed. Gold edged up 10 cents to $1,075.30 an ounce, silver fell 22 cents to $14.12 an ounce.
Brent crude, the international benchmark, lost 47 cents, or 1.2 percent, to close at $40.26 a barrel in London.
In other trading of energy futures in New York, wholesale gasoline fell 0.6 cents to close at $1.204 a gallon, heating oil fell 2 cents to $1.259 a gallon and natural gas edged up 0.3 cent to $2.07 per 1,000 cubic feet.
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) As the Carolina Panthers keep pounding towards and undefeated season, more and more fans want to get their hands on a jersey in store and online.
There is a very high demand at the moment, said Andrew Peterson, manager at Game Day Sports Outlet in Raleigh.
But some deals are a scam.
WNCNs Chris Bullard said he saw an ad that he believed to be from the NFL Shop.
Bullard wanted a couple jerseys for he and his wife as the Panthers enter the final four games of the regular season.
The ad on his Facebook feed contained a sale that seemed too good to be true.
Thats because it was.
I open the box and the first thing I notice is, its Carolina, but its the wrong Carolina. Anybody whos a Panthers fan understands Panthers blue and this is not Panthers blue, Bullard said.
The jerseys have stitching and logos that look authentic. The tags even have a NFL logo hologram.
But the link took him to nflshop-us.com, not nflshop.com.
They did such a good job on the site, I wouldnt have even though to check that, said Bullard. The fake site even rips off the actual NFL Shop banner.
But the counterfeit site has its errors, including a lot of misspelled words and sentences that didnt make sense.
One portion mentioned if there was a stain on the jersey, they hoped you could wash it instead of return it, said Bullard.
WNCN Investigates traced the site back to web host in China.
They got me 100 percent, joked Bullard.Peterson said he was surprised at how far the counterfeiters went to make the jersey seem authentic.
He said it not only cheats you out of jersey but it also hurts the actual retailers selling authentic products.
A lot of that you wont be able to tell until you get it to your home and then sadly most of the time you cant refund it, said Peterson.
Peterson said an unbelievable price is usually the first red flag. So double-check the site or you might be representing the wrong Carolina.
I mean its a great knock-off except for the fact that theyre a little color blind, said Bullard.
WNCN Investigates checked in with the North Carolina Secretary of State who helps track counterfeit goods.
The state has collected more than $9 million in counterfeit materials this year, with more than a $500,000 being sporting goods.
Obama Gun Speech: No-Fly List Is Now NO BUY LIST! Credit Photograph by Saul Loeb-Pool/Getty
WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)Moments after its conclusion on Sunday night, President Obamas speech about combating ISIS came under heavy criticism from people with zero better ideas.
The Presidents proposals, ranging from coalition air strikes against ISIS to beefing up intelligence about potential terrorists, were blasted for being nothing new, with the harshest criticism coming from people with nothing new.
I was incredibly frustrated hearing the President say he would destroy ISIS, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie told CNN. ISIS needs to be obliterated.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz shared Christies scathing assessment of Obamas speech. The President seems to think that ISIS will go away just by us bombing them, Cruz said. If I am President, I will bomb them so hard that will feel like they have been triple-bombed.
Calling it too little, too late, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul ripped the Presidents proposal for keeping potential terrorists from obtaining visas. We need to stop them before they even obtain the pens necessary to fill out visa forms, he said.
Of all of the Republican Presidential candidates, the front-runner Donald Trump was perhaps the most withering in his criticism of the Presidents speech. I only heard the President use the word tough once, Trump said. I gave a speech last night and used it fifteen times.
Pressed for specifics about how he would combat ISIS, Trump acknowledged that he had no new ideas, but added, My no new ideas will be much tougher than his no new ideas, you better believe it.

CHICAGO The Bears likely arent ready to start talking about the future only the next game but at 5-7 and fading fast in the postseason picture, thats what some of the conversation will shift to amongst fans and media. The good news is we caught two bright glimpses of the defense"s future from the Bears" crushing 26-20 overtime defeat to San Francisco, including one from an expected mainstay and one whose outlook beyond 2015 was quite murky as recently as a month ago.Eddie Goldman and Willie Young accounted for 3.5 of the Bears four sacks and three of their four tackles for loss in Sunday.Goldman was a dominant force early on, impressing a number of his teammates in the process.Eddie Goldman will be a Pro Bowler within the next two years, Jarvis Jenkins said. Obviously hes been growing, everybody been seeing it and I see it with his preparation everyday.Goldman spearheaded the improvement of Chicagos run defense, which held the Niners to 77 carries on their first 22 runs (3.5 ypc) after allowing season-highs of 177 and 170 over the past two weeks, respectively. Goldman also supplied consistent penetration in the backfield, showing power and quickness to notch his first multi-sack game in the NFL.He has the best hands of a nose that I face around the whole NFL, said Hroniss Grasu, the man whos been tasked with blocking Goldman in practice throughout his rookie year. Right on the snap, his hands are on your chest. He plays with great great leverage; those are his weapons. He gets his bear paws right into your chest; it sucks.Young has awakened over the past three games, tallying 3.5 of his 4.5 sacks over that span, and picking up the slack while Pernell McPhee has fought through a knee injury.Young beat former All-Pro left tackle Joe Staley on multiple occasions Sunday, including to begin San Franciscos final drive.I just told [Staley after the game], I didnt get no sleep all week watching you. This didnt happen overnight. I told my son, go on and watch TV or something, Ive got some studying to do. Joe Staley this week. My hat go off to him. Hes a great player.Suddenly, Young is looking like a difference maker at a position he still wont call his own. Coming off a ruptured Achilles suffered last December, his explosion and flexibility are improving noticeably every week. And thats not the part that impresses McPhee the most about Youngs rise. His focus level. Earlier this season, he wasnt playing that much. He stayed focused. He stayed asking questions. When we got his opportunity, he just took it to another level. And you can see every day hes improving. Hes asking questions about dropping into coverage, and he really takes it into consideration, as he moved from D-end to outside linebacker.
Perhaps Chicago will still have speed edge rush at or near the top of its offseason to-do list, but it"s encouraging the 30-year-old Young, slated to earn a reasonable $3 million in the final year of his contract in 2016, is helping bolster Chicago"s rush more than earlier in the season.
Of course, the key to a formidable pass rush is one that can get home from different areas and as Goldman ascends, it"s creating more chances for Young, McPhee and Lamarr Houston.
"How many plays did he have today? Two sacks? Heck yeah. Im very proud of where hes at," Young said of Goldman."That allows the guys on the edge to get after the quarterback and just let it go. When you have that kind of inside production, its crucial."
With the postseason push taking a step back Sunday, it"s also crucial for Ryan Pace and John Fox to know what kind of defensive playmakers they have for the future. With their recent surge, Goldman and Young are rushing into that category.
