Evan Daniels talks Marques Bolden, Cal vs K rivalry, 2017 recruiting and more

Marques Bolden Drops 36 In Opening Round of Whataburger Tournament

Where in the world will Marques Bolden go, and what do the Kentucky Wildcats do if they don"t land the five-star center?

At this point, all indications are that the Cats are going all-or-nothing in terms of Bolden to finish off the 2016 class. He"s the only guy they view as someone worth adding to an already-loaded "16 class that has five-star forwards Bam Adebayo, Wenyen Gabriel and Sacha Killeya-Jones in the frontcourt.

But Bolden is the kind of true banger at the 5 spot that UK badly missed last season, making him even more important to a team looking to contender for a title next season.

Ahead of Bolden"s Thursday decision, Scout.com recruiting director Evan Daniels talked with the cn2 gang about the big man"s recruitment and what to know prior to Thursday"s decision. Daniels also talked about John Calipari"s latest recruiting manifesto and his rivalry with Duke head coach MikeKrzyzewski.

Daniels also talks about some of the top 2017 prospects on the rise, including UK targets P.J. Washington, Gary Trent Jr. and Trae Young.

Oklahoma lawmakers OK bill criminalizing performing abortion

OKC Thunder vs Golden State Warriors - Game 1 - 1st Half Highlights - May 16, 2016 - 2016 NBA Finals

Oklahoma lawmakers have moved to effectively ban abortion in their state by making it a felony for doctors to perform the procedure, an effort the bill"s sponsor said Thursday is aimed at ultimately overturning the U.S. Supreme Court"s 1973 decision that legalized abortion nationwide. The bill , which abortion rights group Center for Reproductive Rights says is the first of its kind in the nation, also would restrict any physician who performs an abortion from obtaining or renewing a license to practice medicine in Oklahoma. It passed 33-12 Thursday with no discussion or debate; a handful of Republicans joined with Democrats in voting against the bill sponsored by Republican Sen. Nathan Dahm. Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, an anti-abortion Republican, has until Wednesday to sign the bill into law or veto it. Spokesman Michael McNutt said she also could also allow the bill to become law "without approval" after the five-day period has elapsed. He also said she will withhold comment until her staff has time to review it. Dahm made it clear that he hopes his bill could lead to overturning Roe v. Wade. "Since I believe life begins at conception, it should be protected, and I believe it"s a core function of state government to defend that life from the beginning of conception," said Dahm, R-Broken Arrow. But abortion rights supporters - and the state"s medical association - have said the bill is unconstitutional. Sen. Ervin Yen, an Oklahoma City Republican and the only physician in the Senate, described the measure as "insane" and voted against it. "Oklahoma politicians have made it their mission year after year to restrict women"s access vital health care services, yet this total ban on abortion is a new low," Amanda Allen, an attorney for the New-York based center said in a statement. "The Center for Reproductive Rights is closely watching this bill and we strongly urge Governor Fallin to reject this cruel and unconstitutional ban." Thursday"s vote in the Senate comes as the Oklahoma Legislature nears a May 27 deadline for adjournment and is still grappling with a $1.3 billion budget hole that could lead to deep cuts to public schools, health care and the state"s overcrowded prison system. "Republicans don"t have an answer for their failed education policies, failing health care policies and failing fiscal policies, so what do you do in that situation?" said Senate Democratic leader Sen. John Sparks. "You come up with an emotional distraction. That"s what this bill is." Nearly every year, Oklahoma lawmakers have passed bills imposing new restrictions on abortions, but many of those laws have never taken effect. In all, eight of the state"s separate anti-abortion measures have been challenged in court as unconstitutional in the last five years. In 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a case over an overturned Oklahoma law that would have required women to view of an ultrasound of her fetus before an abortion is performed. That same year, the Oklahoma Supreme Court struck down a law that would have effectively banned all drug-induced abortions in the state. In 2014, the state Legislature approved a law requiring abortion doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals, but a challenge is pending before the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Also Thursday, the Oklahoma House approved a bill that requires the state Department of Health to develop informational material "for the purpose of achieving an abortion-free society," but lawmakers didn"t approve any funding for it. The measure, which now goes to the Senate, requires the health department to produce information about alternatives to abortion and the developmental stages of a fetus, but the bill"s sponsor says it cannot be implemented without any funding.

Marques Bolden Set to Announce Thursday

Marques Bolden Drops 36 In Opening Round of Whataburger Tournament

Marques Bolden is finally set to announce his college choice on Thursday at 2:30 ET, one day after the NCAA late signing period ends on Wednesday.

Bolden is expected to choose between Duke and Kentucky, with multiple sources saying they don"t know which school he will pick.

The 6-foot-10 DeSoto (TX) said last month at the Jordan Brand Classic that he"s looking forward to getting the decision over with.

"Big time," he said. "I can"t wait to make this decision. It"s been a long time. I"ve been recruited since my junior year and now it"s April. I"m about to be 18 and I still haven"t picked a school yet, so I"m really looking forward to picking this."

Bolden had a home visit with the Duke staff just before the Jordan Game but head coach Mike Krzyzewski did not attend.

"Coach K couldn"t make it but I talked to all four of the other assistants," he said. "They said really just to trust them. I"ve known them for a while. I talked to a couple of the current and former players. [They said] really just to trust them and believe that it will work."

As for Kentucky, he heard from Coach John Calipari then too.

Asked what Calipari said, Bolden said, "The same thing, we"d love to have you. And I"ve been talking to the commits out here, too."

Kentucky-bound point guard De"Aaron Fox has been particularly aggressive in a joking fashion.

"I"ve been threatened a couple times by Fox so that"s pretty funny," Bolden said. "He was just like, "You make that wrong decision I might have to just break your legs or something like that. It"s funny, though.""

What about the Duke guys?

"Nah, they ain"t threatened to break my legs," Bolden said. "Just talking it over with me."

Bolden said he sees positives at both schools and isn"t worried about who else is coming in.

"I see myself fitting in perfeclty with both teams," he said. "I try not to really look at the other guys [coming in]. There"s going to be competition everywhere. You"re not going to be the only guy there, so I try not to let other guys run me away. I look forward to the competition."

He added: "I know Im going to get better wherever I go but the way Kentucky develops their guys is unbelievable and then the way Duke guys have come out so successfull, they"re both positive."

Chavez Sr: Canelo can beat Golovkin

24/7 Canelo/Khan - Episode 1: Full Show (HBO Boxing)

By Dan Ambrose: Boxing great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. believes that WBC middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez has improved enough at this point in his career that he can now upend IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady GGG Golovkin if the two of them face each other next.

Chavez likes Canelos skills that hes now showing right now, and he feels that he could give the 34-year-old Golovkin his first loss of his 12-year pro career. Unlike a lot of people who feel that Canelo is hiding behind his catch-weights as an excuse to avoid the Golovkin fight, Chavez sees Canelo as unafraid of the Kazakhstan fighter.

If that is indeed the case, then well find out really soon whether Canelo is afraid or not because his promoters at Golden Boy Promotions are in negotiations with Golovkins promoters at K2. If the fight doesnt get made due to Canelo feeling he needs a weight handicap, then you can draw your own conclusions from there.

I dont think Canelo is afraid and I also think that Canelo has more than a good chance to beat Golovkin, Chavez said to ESPN Deportes TV show A Los Golpes. Canelo keeps getting better. To me, Canelo is a natural middleweight. Canelo is a much better boxer than Golovkin, but Golovkin is a bigger puncher than Canelo. Honestly, I think Canelo has the skills to make a good fight and he can beat Golovkin.

The way Canelo fought against Amir Khan this month, I dont think Canelo will do very well against Golovkin. Canelo looked totally unchanged from the fighter he was back in 2013 in his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. I saw no changes in Canelos game. He was the same slow-footed fighter that he was against Mayweather.

The only difference is he was fighting a guy that makes mistakes in Khan. Mayweather rarely threw hooks against Canelo. Khan was throwing them all the time, and it led to him getting knocked out by a right hand by Canelo.

Golovkin at least has the sense enough to know that he cant just throw hooks. He would know that he would need to jab Canelo to soften him up and get him ready for his hooks. Golovkin has the chin to take Canelo; shots that do land. Im not sure that Canelo has the chin to take Golovkins shots.

What would be bad for Canelo is hes gotten really accustomed to fighting guys he outweighs in the ring. Canelos weight advantage has helped him absorb shots from the lighter opponents hes faced. Against Golovkin, Canelo will need to be able to take shots from a guy who punches two divisions above his weight. Golovkin has light heavyweight power, and it doesnt matter if Canelo rehydrates to 180lbs for the fight.

Golovkin will still be able to hurt him with his shots. He might be outweighed by 10 pounds by Canelo, but thats not going to bother Golovkin because he has the power to make a dent in Canelos chin with his hard punches.

Chavezs son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. had the chance to fight Golovkin a couple of years ago for a lot of money, but he opted not to take the fight. Its perhaps a good thing that Chavez Jr. didnt take the fight because he likely would have been beaten. However, the money that Chavez Jr. would have made to take the fight against Golovkin might have been well worth it because hes done very little with his career since his loss to Sergio Martinez in 2012.

Since that fight, Chavez Jr. has fought journeyman Brian Vera twice, Andrzej Fonfara and Marcos Reyes. Chavez Jr. has very little to show for the last four years of his career. He currently hasnt fought since July of 2015, and he has no fights scheduled right now. Its logical to assume that Chavez Jr. wont fight before July, so h**l have been out of the ring for over a year by the time he eventually fights whenever that is. Theres talk of Chavez Jr. fighting Gabriel Rosado next. Thats probably a bad idea for the ring rusty Chavez Jr. because the way hes looked in his last two fights against Reyes and Fonfara, he might lose to Rosado.

Google Doodle Honors America Hating Al Qaeda Sympathizer

Sandra Oh reads Yuri Kochiyama

By William Hicks | 2:08 pm, May 19, 2016

Todays largeGoogle doodle honorsthe late Japanese-Americanactivist Yuri Kochiyama, whom Wikipedia calls one of the few prominent non-black black separatists. And while the Washington Postlauded her for her fierce sense of patriotism, some of her past quotes say otherwise.

Like thefact that Kochiyama, who died in 2014 in her 90s,expressed admiration for Osama bin Laden.

Im glad that you are curious why I consider Osama bin Laden as one of the people that I admire. To me, he is in the category of Malcolm X, Che Guevara, Patrice Lumumba, Fidel Castro, all leaders that I admire. They had much in common. Besides being strong leaders who brought consciousness to their people, they all had severe dislike for the US government and those who held power in the US. I think all of them felt the US government and its spokesmen were all arrogant, racist, hypocritical, self-righteous, and power hungry.

She didntcare what Americans feel about bin Laden, as the U.S government is loathsome.

bin Laden has been primarily fighting US dominance even when he received money from the US when he was fighting in Afghanistan. He was fighting for Islam and all people who believe in Islam, against westerners, especially the USeven when he was fighting against the RussiansI do not care what the US government or Americans feelI think its shameful what this government has done from the beginning of its racist, loathsome history.

Here she is linking terrorism to capitalism

As for imperialism, which is a policy of extending power and control, and usually by military force and hegemony, the government of the United States is the best example. Imperialism, terrorism and war go hand in hand. But it begins with capitalism, private ownership and profit-making.

Kochiyamawas also a friend of Assata Shakur, a black separatist who was convicted of murdering a New Jersey state trooper before escaping a U.S. prison and finding asylum in Cuba. According to Wikipedia, Kochiyama compared Shakur to Malcom X and convicted cop-killerMumia Abu Jamal. Kochiyama was also a supporter of the Shining Path, which terrorized Peru in the 1980s.

Not s on show! Bella Hadid seemed to be overcome with sartorial shyness when she stepped out in the French Riviera town the following evening

Just 24 hours earlier the 19-year-old beauty stole the show in an extremely racy red Alexandre Vauthier silk wrap gown, which showed off every inch of her frame while exhibiting her choice to forgo underwear.

But she traded this approach for a much more formal choice, which instead saw her sport a floor-length gown in deep navy blue.

Covering her legs and much of her cleavage, it was quite the contrast.

What a difference a day makes: Bella pictured in her latest look (L) and in her daring dress on Wednesday (R)

The only remotely-revealing detail of her latest look was the backless design, but even this covered the small of her reverse.

Boasting a halter-neck feature, it also featured a a flowing skirt with some modest lace trim along the sides.

She teamed the look with an oversized ring, a matching necklace and earrings.

The event, which takes place just outside of Cannes, will also feature Kirsten Dunst, Vanessa Paradis and Donald Sutherland who are serving as chairs for the Cannes Film Festival Jury.
