Jordan Spieth seals win with incredible chip-in

Jordan Spieth holes a stunning birdie putt on No. 16 at DEAN & DELUCA

Jordan Spieth stood at the tee of the 71st hole of theDEAN & DELUCA Invitational at Colonial with a one-shot lead over Harris English, but needed two relatively fortunate breaks to avoid dropping back.

Spieth, who has struggled off the tee in recent weeks, hit a shot into the crowd that bounced back out to within a few feet from the fairway.

After stopping to hand over an autographed glove, Spieth"s approach to the green at the par-4 17th sailed over the flag and struck the grandstands. Spieth was able to drop his ball and had a chip shot from a very tough position - and he drained it.

The win is Spieth"s first since January, and the first of his career in the state of Texas.

Spieth was even through nine holes Sunday and trailed English, but birdied his first three (and last three) holes on the back nine to post a final-round 65. Spieth had three putts to win on the 18th, but capped the tournament with a 34-foot birdie putt.

(Correction: this story originally said this was Spieth"s first win of the year, but he won in January. The author regrets the error.)

Memorial Day Quotes To Remember And Honor Those That Have Given Their Lives For Their Country

Memorial Day Quotes

On Monday, the world will remember and honor all the service men and women who died protecting and serving their country for Memorial Day. Many see the holiday as a reason for getting some great deals at retail stores or electronics sales. Others look at it as nothing more than a day off and a big three-day weekend. These quotes will help everyone remember that there is so much more behind Memorial Day and the memories of those that should be honored.

Please always remember the honorable men and women of the service who were a part of the United States Armed Forces and gave their every single thing for their country. While they should be remembered and honored each and every single day, Memorial Day belongs to them and memories should be shared.

Many great leaders and important names have expressed inspirational and memorable quotes that are often associated with Memorial Day. There are those which are extremely serious and will ring through the ears and minds of many for years and decades.

Our nation owes a debt to its fallen heroes that we can never fully repaybut we can honor their sacrifice. President Barack Obama

I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country. Nathan Hale

Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism. President George Washington

My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country. President John F. Kennedy

[Photo by Win McNamee/Getty Images]What I can do for my country, I am willing to do. Christopher Gadsden

There are also the quotes that come forth with a bit of humor and sarcasm while also being quite serious. Men like Mark Twain were always famous and known for those kinds of thoughts, and he was never one to bite his tongue.

Many would say that his words still ring true today.

Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it. Mark Twain

I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually. James A. Baldwin

On social media, the hashtag #MemorialDayWeekend is already trending and many are talking about all of the fun things they have planned. Theyre discussing getting together for good food and drinks and listening to music and enjoying the three-day weekend.

In the middle of all that fun and enjoyment and time with the family, its necessary and respectful to take moments throughout the day and honor those that are our fallen heroes. Let these quotes help everyone take time out of their day to pay tribute to anyone you may know that has given their life and even those you never met.

Rumor of the Day: Has Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson been cast as Doc Savage?

Shane Black Wants The Rock In His Doc Savage Movie - Collider

Director Shane Black opened up a few weeks ago about his dream choice for the lead role of Doc Savage --the original super hero of the 1930s -- and his choice?Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

Speaking to Thrillist, Black said, I would very much like to do Doc with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy, saying the movie was on the back burner until Johnson was available.Awww. He even mentioned he was hoping for the cameras to roll on the movie "sometime next year."

Shane Blackhas been attachedto helm Doc Savagefrom a screenplay he co-wrotewith Anthony Bagarozzi (The Nice Guys) and Chuck Mondry (The Nice Guys) since2013. A few years ago, Chris Hemsworths (Thor) name was being touted as a possibleDoc Savage, butfor the director, there can be only one.

Now it seems that Johnson has gotten the memoand thebusy actor (he"s currentlyfilming Baywatch and hasFast and Furious 8 and the Rampage video game adaptation on his busy schedule) hastaken to Instagram to tease his involvement in an upcoming Shane Black movie by writing: I"m reading an outline for a cool movie I"ll make in 2017 (with director Shane Black).

Of course, none of this is an officialconfirmation that Johnson isindeed playing the role, so remember totake it allwith a grain of salt until this piece of potentially awesome newsis actuallyconfirmed.

Doc Savage tells the story ofthe man of bronze who possesses superhuman strength, endurance, intelligence and agility. Abrilliant scientist, inventor and explorer, hespendshis time battling the bad guys and ridding the world of evil. The character began as a series of pulp novels and radio series in the 1930s and "40s.A not-so-good movie, Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze(I"ve included the trailer below JUSTBECAUSE),was produced in 1975 starring Tarzan actor Ron Ely in the title role, and the character also found life in multiple comic book series.

Do you guys think The Rock would bethe perfect choice for therole of the man of bronze in director Shane Blacks upcoming Doc Savage movie?

What it really takes to put on the Dean & Deluca Invitational

Kevin Chappell slam dunks it for eagle at DEAN & DELUCA

Behind the scenes: What it takes to put on the Dean & Deluca Invitational

Joe Trahan, WFAA 11:39 PM. CDT May 29, 2016

FORT WORTH -- Now that the biggest golf stage in the world has completed it"s two-week run in North Texas, here"s quick quiz:

What do the numbers 286, 430, 1,500 and 130,000 have in common?

Colonial Country Club, and what it takes to put on the Dean & Deluca Invitational.

Upwards of 130,000 fans took it all in at Colonial during the week. But what does it take to put on this touring golf show?

Dean & Deluca Invitational tournament director Michael Tothe gave News 8 a backstage pass.

"There"s like a separate sort of underbelly all happening behind the curtain like the Wizard of Oz that makes everything look great out here," says Tothe.

Back of house, there are trailers and trucks, and nothing looks ready for primetime or to be seen by the public. But what it lacks in looks, it more than makes up for in terms of productivity.

The pros walk during the tournament, but carts are vital. It takes about 430 each day.

Players, officials, and vendors need every one of them to get around Colonial"s massive grounds.

At each event, the PGA Tour creates it"s own hand-held radio network. There"s communication all over the course and it takes a ton of radios to keep everyone connected.

"It varies on the size of the event," says communications technician Matt Smith, "this event since it is such a good size, it"s about 300 radios, 286 to be specific."

The real star is a 50-foot antenna providing 10-miles radius of connectivity.

There"s one element you must consider more than most when playing golf in Texas in May.

Tour meteorologist Stewart Williams has been on the job for 22 years. And just like during weather delays in the second and final rounds, there"s no golf, until he says it"s safe.

"Lightning is the number one concern out here," says Williams. "That"s my number one job to keep the players and the spectators safe."

Here"s a number you may not have guessed. 1,500 volunteers serve as the back-bone of this event.

From marshals, to sign-holders, to cart drivers - volunteers do it all.

"Its a well-oiled machine down," says Tothe, standing in volunteer headquarters where hundreds of helpers are grabbing lunch during a delay in the action.

Then there"s the biggest logistical element of the tournament - feeding the 100-thousand plus patrons, and everyone else here at Colonial this week.

22 concession stands, 80 private venues, and then all of those volunteers need food and drink.

On tour, of the golfers, they like to say,"these guys are good,"

Now you know the army behind them isn"t half bad either.

What is Memorial Day?

Emotional Vet Describes What Memorial Day Means To Those Who Served

Memorial Day is a great and wonderful way to remember our patriotic heroes who sacrificed their lives to help us breathe the air of freedom. This day is observed with families and friends visiting cemeteries and memorials to pay homage to their loved and forgotten ones.

Your silent tents of green

We deck with fragrant flowers;

Yours has the suffering been,

The memory shall be ours.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Memorial Day was first celebrated on May 30, 1868. It was observed by placing flowers on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers during the first national celebration. Gen. James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, after which around 5,000 participants helped to decorate the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers who were buried there.

Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. This date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country.

The alternative name of Memorial Day was first used in 1882. It did not become more common until after World War II, and was not declared the official name by Federal law until 1967. On June 28, 1968, the United States Congress passed the Uniform Holidays Bill, which moved three holidays from their traditional dates to a specified Monday in order to create a convenient three-day weekend. The holidays included Washingtons Birthday, now celebrated as Presidents Day; Veterans Day and Memorial Day. The change moved Memorial Day from its traditional May 30 date to the last Monday in May. The law took effect at the federal level in 1971.

Red poppies are a tradition inspired by a poem in 1915. In Flanders Fields, Moina Michael replied with her own poem:

We cherish too, the Poppy red

That grows on fields where valor led,

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heroes never dies.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of those who have died serving our country. I tear at the sound of Taps played at ceremonies on Memorial Day: We come, not to mourn our dead soldiers, but to praise them. Francis A. Walker.

I will tear up as well. We will be with our son, Scott, at his gravesite in Bigfork, Montana in memory of his service to our country. Have a fun, safe, and memorable Memorial Day weekend!

G*d Bless America and our great United States.

It is the VETERAN, not the preacher, who has given us freedom of religion.

It is the VETERAN, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the VETERAN, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the VETERAN, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is the VETERAN, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the VETERAN, not the politician, who has given us the right to vote.

Memorial Day: Find Events Around SoCal

Memorial Day Message: Make The Right Choice

It isn"t every day of the week when one witnesses thousands of carnations drifting down from the sky above.

But if you"re at the Palm Springs Air Museum on Monday, May 30, you will see the sight, which is as stirring a Golden State tradition as Memorial Day observances come.

Ready to find your place to reflect, show your gratitude, and honor the day, which is built on the foundation of remembering those who have served? Then make for...

Long Beach: The unveiling of a memorial is always a major moment, and one such moment is happening at Rosie the Riveter Park over several hours on Monday, May 30. The Honoring the Fallen Memorial Wall will make its debut via the reading aloud of all 6,864 names (starting at 6 a.m.). The wall pays tribute to the "nearly 7,000 military service members killed in action since the 9/11 attacks..." and the official unveiling is at 4 o"clock.

Brentwood: Support the early-in-the-day Walk for Warriors by coming out and cheering those making their way around a 3.1-mile route at the Veterans Affair Campus. Can"t join the walk but still want to show your support? Donate at New Directions for Veterans now.

Rancho Palos Verdes: Several memorial parks and cemeteries throughout Southern California will host remembrances, and the Green Hills Memorial Park is the location for one of the largest. It begins at 10 a.m., a "moving tribute to our fallen service men and women," a tribute that will include speeches as well as fly-overs.

Huntington Beach: The Huntington Beach High School Band will play at the Pier Plaza on May 30 as residents gather to remember those locals who gave their lives in service. Bagpipers will also be on hand, and a rifle salute is expected at the 11 a.m. ceremony. A Memorial Day Walk is also part of the day.

Palm Springs: This large celebration revs up at 10 a.m., with speeches, vintage plane fly-overs, medal presentations, and more. The Flower Drop Memorial Service begins promptly at 1 o"clock, when some 3,000 carnations will fall to the area near the airport. Guests may take one home, to remember.

Canoga Park: The city hosts one of the largest of Southern California"s Memorial Day observances each year, in its grand band-filled parade. There are floats, and displays of community and fun, and more, all under the thematic banner of "Saluting the Price of Freedom." The opening ceremony is at 10, with the parade to follow at 11.

Boyle Heights: One especially emotional display of the day happens at Los Cinco Puntos Memorial Park each year, when a 24-hour "stand guard" is held at the memorial found there, an obelisk to those who have served in every war. The vigil began on Sunday morning and will conclude at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day.

Pico Rivera: If you or your loved one served in the Korean War, consider attending the Memorial Day Ceremony at the city"s Veterans Monument on Monday, May 30 at 10 o"clock. While the day is for all veterans and their families, the 2016 observance will include a special tribute to those who served in the 1950-1953 war.

San Pedro: While no specific Memorial Day plans are in the works for the USS Iowa, it has become local tradition for veterans and their families to pay the ship a visit on Memorial Day. It did serve in World War II -- "the battleship of presidents" is its nickname -- and it is open for tours and more on Monday, May 30.

Queen Mary: The battleship"s nearest WWII neighbor, the Queen Mary, has a package deal for visiting both, but if you just want to do the Long Beach landmark, you"ll get in free on May 30 with your military ID. The ocean-liner was called into service during the war, and its historical displays are impressive and moving, both.
