The Ministry of Health has begun to prepare for the possibility of babies being born with microcephaly arising from mothers being infected with the Zika virus (ZIKV) during pregnancy.
Microcephaly is a birth defect in which a baby is born with a small head.
These babes can also develop mental conditions that can impair their development.
Director of Emergency, Disaster Management and Special Services in the Ministry, Dr Melody Ennis, says the health ministry, as part of its response to ZIKV, is turning its attention to looking at measures to treat children with microcephaly in the event the country records such a cases.
Ennis says the response programme would also look at providing psycho-social support to families with a baby affected by the condition.

She was speaking today at a press conference and prayer breakfast for the launch of Disaster Preparedness Month 2016.
There have been reports of a suspected case of a pregnant woman being diagnosed with the Zika virus, but the health ministry has declined to comment on the matter.
The ministry has since called a press conference for tomorrow on ZIKV to update the country.
Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, told our news centre that the number of ZIKV cases has increased to 15.

A 24-year-old Texas middle school teacher is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old male student for several months, prosecutors say.
Alexandria Vera, of Spring, had the boy as a student at the start of the 2015 school year and became pregnant in January, KHOU-TV reports. She had an abortion after the investigation began, authorities said.
She has been placed on administrative leave from her position as an English teacher at Stovall Middle School in the Aldine Independent School District, which serves parts of Harris County, including portions of Houston. The victim is an eighth grader who has since turned 14, police say.

Vera, wearing a Golden State Warriors T-shirt, was released after posting $100,000 bail. She declined to answer questions when approached by a reporter from KTRK-TV at court, as you can see below:
Vera told investigators she met the boy in 2015 during summer school, when he was a student in her class, according to court documents.
During summer school, the boy flirted with her and asked for the name of her Instagram account, police said. Vera says she tried to stop the flirting and denied a friend request on Instagram from the student. The boy ended up in her English class when the 2015-16 school year started, and Vera says the flirting continued.
Vera told police the boy missed a class in September, and she became concerned, so she sent him a message on Instagram, police said. He asked for the teachers phone number and she gave it to him.
She later went to his house to pick him up and they drove around and kissed in the car, police said. Later in September she drove to his house and had s*x with the student for the first time, police said in court documents.
She told police she and the victim had s*x on almost a daily basis at her home and that they love each, according to court documents.

She told investigators the boy would sleep at her house and then she would drive him back to his house in the morning so he could catch the bus.
Vera said she got pregnant in January 2016, but had an abortion in February after Child Protective Services agents showed up at the school to ask her and the boy questions about their relationship, according to court documents. She denied the relationship at that time.
Vera was the cool teacher, who would let them use cell phones in class, students told KHOU-TV. They said there had been rumors about her and the boy.
Neighbors said she sometimes had five teenage boys over her house at one time.
That kid was always over, a neighbor told KHOU. And she always told (neighbors) it was her brother.

Vera told police the boys family was aware of the relationship, according to court documents.
She said the boys parents first met her at an open house at the school in October. Vera told police she then went to the boys house and was introduced to them as his boyfriend.

Child Protective Services are now investigating the victims parents because of their support of the relationship, KHOU-TV reports.

Police said they seized Veras phone and had it searched forensically. They found many messages between the student and Vera, according to court documents.
Detectives interviewed the student and he disclosed a sexual relationship with (Vera), and was able to identify the parts of the body and defined s*x as putting his p***s inside (Veras) v****a.

Vera is the mother of a 5-year-old girl, according to her Facebook page. She last posted a photo with her daughter on May 24. She also posted a photo in Disney World in April, after the investigation had already begun. Vera had been placed on leave on April 15.
She is the daughter of former Houston police officer Jaime Vera, a source told Heavy.com. Her father was fired by the police department in 2011 after a 13-year career that was clouded in controversy.
Jaime Vera was suspended for 60 days in May 2008 for a confrontation with his wife, and signed a Last Chance Agreement that said he understood hed be fired for committing even a minor infraction, the Texas Observer reported.
But in August of that same year he was suspended again, this time for 15 days, for sexually harassing a female officer. The Observer reports he left his beat while on duty to harass her. He was not fired because the harassment had occurred before the May 2008 suspension, the Observer reported. Vera was eventually fired for trying to pay off mechanics to pass the inspection of his car, according to the news site.
Alexandria Vera previously worked as a pharmacy clerk at Lifechek Pharmacy in Spring, Texas, according to her Linkedin profile. It is not clear when she became a teacher.
Vera recently began selling vacuum cleaners for Rainbow, according to her Facebook page.

Vera is facing a felony charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child. Prosecutors say they have evidence showing that between September 2015 and January 30, 2016, the middle school teacher committed two acts of sexual abuse against a child younger than fourteen years of age, including an act constituting aggravated sexual assault of a child.
The felony sexual abuse charge carries a minimum sentence of 25 years and up to 99 years in prison, according to Texas law. Probation and early release are not options, according to the law, because it is an aggravated offense.
The school district released a statement to KTRK-TV after the charge was announced:
Aldine ISD has been made aware that charges have been filed against a former Stovall Middle School teacher involved in inappropriate behavior with a male student. When the allegation was made in April, the teacher was immediately removed from the school and placed on administrative leave. Aldine ISD Police investigated the incident and turned their findings over to the Harris County District Attorneys Office. The safety and security of Aldine ISDs students and staff remains a priority of the school district.
Its not yet clear if she has hired an attorney. She did not respond to requests for comment from Heavy.com.

Another former Stovall Middle School teacher was granted probation after she gave a student a lap dance in 2014 as a birthday present, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Felicia Smith, also of Spring, admitted to a felony charge of having an improper relationship with a student.
The then-42-year-old teacher told police she danced for him on his 15th birthday in front of a classroom full of students, the Chronicle reports.
The student said Smith gave him a full contact lap dance, while he sat in a chair. Police said she sat down in his lap and was moving back and forth and touching him all over his body. Smith then got on her knees and put her head between his legs, before wrapping her arms around the boy and saying, I love you baby, happy birthday, according to court documents.
The dance was recorded by another student.

Updated TeamViewer users say their computers were hijacked and bank accounts emptied all while the software company"s systems mysteriously fell offline. TeamViewer denies it has been hacked.
In the past 24 hours, we"ve seen a spike in complaints from people who say their PCs, Macs and servers were taken over via the widely used remote-control tool on their machines. Even users with strong passwords and two-factor authentication enabled on their TeamViewer accounts say they were hit.
It appears miscreants gained control of victims" TeamViewer web accounts, and used those to connect into computers, where they seized web browsers to empty PayPal accounts, access webmail, and order stuff from Amazon and eBay.
"Hackers got everything from me," Doug, an Idaho-based Twitch streamer who was looking forward to celebrating his birthday today with his wife and two kids, told The Register.
"They remote connected in at 5AM MT, went into my Chrome and used my PayPal to buy about $3k worth of gift cards. And yes, I had two-factor authentication."
Over on Reddit, people were lining up with tales of their systems being compromised via TeamViewer, sparking fears the platform had been hacked. TeamViewer makes remote-control clients for Windows, OS X, Linux, Chrome OS, iOS and Android.
"I never expected this to happen, but it did," wrote Redditor Eric1084.
"When I sat down on my chair, I saw my mouse is moving across the screen. Of course, I immediately revoked remote control, and asked who [the hacker] is. At that point, he disconnected, and attempted to connect to my Ubuntu server, which has all my backups. Good thing I connected to [the server] right after he remote"d into my workstation. I revoked his permission before he tried to open Firefox. Immediately after, I started panicking, and thought he just stole all my passwords."
Another Redditor, famguy07, added: "I had the same thing happen to me tonight. Luckily I was playing Rocket League. I terminated [the connection] after less than 10 seconds. Once it clicked in my brain what had happened, I logged into my server and exited TeamViewer to deal with it later."
Pouring further fuel on the fire that TeamViewer had been infiltrated by criminals, at about 0700 Pacific Time (1500 in the UK) today TeamViewer suffered an outage lasting at least three hours, which knocked its website offline and left people unable to connect to their computers remotely.
It"s claimed TeamViewer.com"s DNS was screwed up during the IT snafu, thus stopping people from getting through to the Germany-based company"s servers. We"ve heard that its DNS servers were pointing towards Chinese IP addresses at one point, but we haven"t been able to verify that.
TeamViewer has said sorry for the downtime.
After getting its systems back online, TeamViewer insisted that its security was not breached. In a statement bizarrely dated last week but referencing today"s events, the biz instead blamed "careless use" of passwords by its customers. People aren"t using strong enough credentials, or are reusing passwords from websites that have been hacked such as LinkedIn and Tumblr, we"re told.
"Users are still using the same password across multiple user accounts with various suppliers. While many suppliers have proper security means in place, others are vulnerable," the company said.
TeamViewer spokesman Axel Schmidt told The Register by phone from Germany tonight that his company has not found any sign of a breach, and suggested people who have been hijacked contact the police.
It is possible that some folks have been caught out by password reuse, or by weak passwords, or by a Windows Trojan disguised as an Adobe Flash update that"s doing the rounds using TeamViewer to backdoor machines.
Yet, we"ve heard from people who have used passwords unique to TeamViewer, who have enabled two-factor authentication, and have found no malware on their computers, losing control of their systems in the past few days via TeamViewer. It"s possible the DNS cockup was part of an elaborate plan by cyber-fiends to intercept people"s logins and swipe their passwords, but the company is adamant there was no security breach.
If you do use TeamViewer, now would be a good time to triple check your password and security settings to keep miscreants out, and inspect your connection logs and your web browser history for any unauthorized accesses.

In a second statement today, TeamViewer said its DNS systems fell offline because they were pummeled by a denial-of-service attack. "TeamViewer experienced network issues because of the DoS-attack to DNS servers and fixed them," the biz said. "There is no security breach at TeamViewer."

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota General Mills is collaborating with health officials to investigate an ongoing, multistate outbreak of E. coli O121 that may be potentially linked to Gold Medal flour, Wondra flour, and Signature Kitchens flour (sold in Safeway, Albertsons, Jewel, Shaws, Vons, United, Randalls, and Acme). Out of an abundance of caution, a voluntary recall is being made. To date, E. coli O121 has not been found in any General Mills flour products or in the flour manufacturing facility, and the company has not been contacted directly by any consumer reporting confirmed illnesses related to these products.

State and federal authorities have been researching 38 occurrences of illnesses across 20 states related to a specific type of E. coli (E. coli O121), between December 21, 2015, and May 3, 2016. While attempting to track the cause of the illness, CDC found that approximately half of the individuals reported making something homemade with flour at some point prior to becoming ill. Some reported using a General Mills brand of flour.
Based on the information that has been shared with General Mills, some of the ill consumers may have also consumed raw dough or batter. Consumers are reminded to not consume any raw products made with flour. Flour is an ingredient that comes from milling wheat, something grown outdoors that carries with it risks of bacteria which are rendered harmless by baking, frying or boiling. Consumers are reminded to wash their hands, work surfaces, and utensils thoroughly after contact with raw dough products or flour, and to never eat raw dough or batter.
