Reporter escorted out of UFC 199 after breaking story about Brock Lesnar"s return

Brock Lesnar To Fight At UFC 200

Minutes after mmafighting.coms Ariel Helwani reported an exclusive story that WWE star and former UFCheavyweight champion Brock Lesnar was close to returning to fight for the organization at UFC 200 on July 9, Helwanis credential was pulled at UFC 199 and he was escorted outside the Forum on Saturday night.

Helwani tweeted to his 363,000 followers that two colleagues, photographer Esther Lin and video director E. Casey Leydon, were also removed from UFC 199before Michael Bisping knocked out Luke Rockhold to win the middleweight title and become the first fighter from England to win a UFC belt.

I love this sport & this job with all my heart, Helwani tweeted. Did nothing unethical. I reported fight news. That"s it. & then told we"re banned for life.

UFC spokesman Dave Sholler told the Los Angeles Times and USA Today Sports following the post-fight news conference that Helwani and his crews removal was not entirely tied to breaking the Lesnar news which was confirmed later Saturday night when the organizationplayed a UFC 200 promotional ad inside the Forum that featuredLesnar at the end uttering his catchphrase, Can you see me now?

Thats not wholly accurate, Sholler said when asked if Helwanis Lesnar story alone provoked his ban.

Conor McGrego-Nate Diaz rematch to take place at UFC 202 >>

Helwani certainly was handed some scoops by the company in his role as a UFC reporter for Fox until he was removed from that position recently, but his network of sources also provides valuable information, including word that the Conor McGregor-Nate Diaz rematch originally would headline UFC 200.

That report preceded Helwanis ouster at Fox.

A dispute between McGregor and UFC officials caused a postponement of the rematch untilUFC 202 on August 20 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which the UFC announced in the arena and on its $59.95 pay-per-view broadcast Saturday night.

The UFCs interest indistributing informationto the given news outlet it sees as the best fit such as McGregors exclusive interview with ESPN two weeks ago has never been more calculated, irking some who cover the sport andrely on the quality of their sources to break news.

Michael Bisping makes the most of his UFC 199 title shot >>

Im not saying you dont have a job to report, but in this case [with Helwani], the professional standards are to reach out [to the UFC] for comment on a story youre about to report, even if you get a no-comment, Sholler said.

Part of the problem is mostmajor sports including boxing have formal writersassociations that allow reporters togather to discuss policies or protest treatment such as Helwanis in collective strength. The efforts to unite MMA writers in such an association have failed to this point.

UFC 199 results: Dominick Cruz settles score with Urijah Faber, wins trilogy match via dominant decision

Dominick Cruz vs Urijah Faber UFC 199 Full fight

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Dominick Cruz looked to defend his Bantamweight belt tonight (Sat., June 4, 2016) at the expense of bitter rival, Urijah Faber, in the UFC 199 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event inside The Forum in Inglewood, California. It was a trilogy match, with both fighters owning a previous win, making this bout about a championship belt, as well as lifetime bragging rights.

Take a bow, Mr. Cruz, who coasted to an action-packed, dominant five-round decision over "California Kid."

The pair wasted little time getting to work, setting a furious pace that almost had Faber literally fighting out of his shorts as the scrambles were out of control. Faber threatened early with a guillotine choke, then he later got a hold of Cruz"s ankle as his back was turned and used it to blast him with a left hook along the cage. Four minutes in and Cruz looked exhausted, taking deep breaths, his mouth wide open. Faber, meanwhile, appeared to be the fresher fighter, closing the distance and refusing to play Cruz"s frustrating in-and-out game.

To start the second, Cruz landed a straight left hand that dropped Faber to his b**t. Faber -- who landed a sneaky upkick as Cruz charged in -- was able to get back to his feet. However, Cruz could smell blood in the water and turned up the aggression. He landed two more stiff jabs and then a low kick as it appeared that Faber was able to shake off the immediate shock of the knockdown. Faber became remarkably less confident after the knockdown, retreating and shadow boxing, landing nothing of significance as it appeared Cruz began to slip into auto pilot for the final few minutes of the round.

Cruz started the third frame with another solid leg kick as Faber struggled to close the distance. Faber dove in for a takedown, failed, and Cruz whacked him with a hard right hand on the break as punishment. Cruz later landed a looping left hook, then another combination, that appeared have an affect on Faber. He was unable to put anything meaningful together, seemingly frustrated with Cruz"s unorthodox style and stinging punches.

Heading into the championship rounds, it was clear that Faber needed to kick it up a notch if he had any chance of pulling off the upset. But, the sense of urgency led to another knockdown mid-way through the fourth round as Cruz stopped him dead in his tracks as he attempted to close the distance. Faber caught him with a clean right hand in the fifth and final frame, but it did little to slow the frenetic pace that Cruz sets. Cruz would go onto win a unanimous decision, settling their feud an impressive win in their rubbermatch, and, in the process, earning bragging rights over his arch enemy.

Copa America 2016 TV Schedule & Live Stream: Brazil vs Ecuador, Costa Rica vs Paraguay

Brazil vs. Ecuador | 2016 Copa America Highlights

The Copa America 2016 competition will continue on Saturday in the United States. U.S. and Colombia started the Copa America Centenario festivities on Friday in California, where the host country took a humbling 2-0 loss in front of their countrymen.

Brazil vs. Ecuador

Brazil, who are one of the favorites to win the special tournament, will begin their title chase against Ecuador at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California. The Brazil vs. Ecuador match will start at 10 p.m. ET.

Brazil will be playing in the tournament without their biggest star, Neymar, who decided to skip the Copa America Centenario to keep himself fresh for the 2016 Rio Olympics. But while Neymar will sit out, along with Kaka and Douglas Costa, Brazil coach Dunga remains confident they can win the title this year.

However, the Brazilian squad will be facing tall odds in their tournament opener, as they will be going up against the current leaders in the South American World Cup qualifying tournament. Ecuador have already scored big wins against Argentina and Uruguay late last year, Goal reported.

Costa Rica vs. Paraguay

Costa Rica and Paraguay will also make their debut in the tournament at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The Costa Rica vs. Paraguay match will kick off at 5 p.m. ET.

Costa Rica are considered one of the dark horses in the tournament, but their players will have to step up, as ESPN confirmed goalkeeper Keylor Navas will not play in the Copa America Centenario. Los Ticos are in good form heading into the match, having won seven of their last 10 matches.

Paraguay, on the other hand, will look to discover their form in the special edition of the Copa America. The 2015 Copa America semifinalists have lost in five of their last six matches, but defender Fabian Balbuena still likes their chances of winning the title this year.

Copa America 2016 TV Schedule & Live Stream

The Costa Rica vs. Paraguay group match will be shown live on FOX Network, while the Brazil vs. Ecuador game will be available on Fox Sports 1. Both games will be streamed online on Fox Sports Go and Fox Soccer 2GO. More TV schedule and live stream information are available on Live Soccer TV.

Maiden Trojan Nation Confirmed For Belmont Stakes

2015 Belmont Stakes - American Pharoah Wins The Triple Crown

Trojan Nation, whose owners Aaron Sones and wife Julie Gilbert said will start in the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes, will arrive at Belmont either Monday evening or Tuesday, trainer Paddy Gallagher said by phone.

Trojan Nation will breeze one final time at Santa Anita on Saturday morning before shipping to Belmont. The son of 2002 Grade 1 Stephen Foster Handicap winner Street Cry last breezed on Sunday at Santa Anita, when he clocked five furlongs in 1:00.20.

He"s scheduled to work tomorrow and will probably go either five-eighths or three-quarters, somewhere around there, Gallagher said. Once he"s at Belmont, he"ll gallop on the track and see the place.

Trojan Nation"s only previous start in New York resulted in a career-best effort when he finished second in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial at Aqueduct Racetrack despite going off at 81-1.

Exaggerator is horse to beat in Belmont Stakes

The end of the Triple Crown road is here.

The Belmont Stakes, the final race of the three-part series, will be run Saturday at Belmont Park on Long Island.

And with no Triple Crown on the line, the star of the day could be Exaggerator, who comes into the 11/2-mile Belmont as the horse to beat. He was second in the Kentucky Derby and won the Preakness.

Exaggerator has a chance to become the 19th horse to pull off the Preakness-Belmont double. The last time a horse won the last two legs of the Triple Crown without winning the Kentucky Derby was in 2005, by Afleet Alex.

There is only one other horse expected to run in the Belmont who will have competed in all three legs of the Triple Crown. That"s the Japanese-based Lani, who was ninth in the Derby and fifth in the Preakness.

Among the others expected to run are Preakness runner-up Cherry Wine; Stradivari, fourth in the Preakness; and a handful of Derby runners, including Suddenbreakingnews (fifth), Destin (sixth) and Brody"s Cause (seventh).

The race, though, is expected to go through Exaggerator.

"Exaggerator is the horse to beat," said Donnie Von Hemel, who trains Suddenbreakingnews. "To be quite honest, he"s the most likely winner."

The Belmont Stakes

When: Saturday

Where: Belmont Park, Elmont

Approximate post time: 6:32 p.m.

TV: NBC (WNYT-13) 5-7 p.m.; NBCSN 7-7:30 p.m.

Exaggerator, who won the Saratoga Special in his third career start last year, will be making his 12th start in the Belmont. It also will be his sixth start of the season. So far, there has been no evidence that the horse is on the decline. He shows up and runs his race every time trainer Keith Desormeaux leads him over.

He has finished off the board only twice in his life. The first came in his first career start, when he was fifth behind Nyquist, who would go on to win the Kentucky Derby. Exaggerator was fourth in the Breeders" Cup Juvenile last year, again losing to Nyquist. Exaggerator has won five of 11 career starts.

Nyquist, who finished third in the Preakness, went to the sidelines after he came down with a fever and it was discovered he had an elevated white blood-cell count. The rematch of the Derby and Preakness winner in the Belmont would be the next best thing to a Triple Crown try. Instead, it"s up to Exaggerator.

"It sure seems like Exaggerator has jazzed up some people," Desormeaux said. "Maybe they like the name, and they like his running style, the distance of his wins. Hopefully we can get some fans that are not everyday fans to come in and watch us compete. Hopefully, we can provide them with a good show."

Exaggerator is ridden by Desormeaux"s Hall of Fame brother, Keith. Two of his biggest wins have come on off tracks: the Preakness and the Santa Anita Derby.

The Belmont is hardly ever won by horses that come from way off the pace and that is the way Exaggerator runs.

Keith Desormeaux said his horse will be closer to the pace in the Belmont than he was in the Derby and Preakness. Other trainers of closers such as Suddenbreakingnews, Brody"s Cause and Cherry Wine have said the same thing.

The Belmont doesn"t look to have a horse that will want to go to the lead from the gate. And that makes the race very interesting. Exaggerator seems to have the breeding for the Belmont distance, as he is a son of Curlin, who was nipped in the Belmont in 2007, when the filly Rags to Riches won.

"Exaggerator is a very talented horse," said trainer Dale Romans, who will run Brody"s Cause and Cherry Wine. "Nobody is going to tower over this field, because the mile and a half is the question. There are very few horses that ever tower over the field in a Classic race. Last year was a year that maybe they did, but there"s very few that do."

Cops collect change at Dunkin" Donuts for Georgia Special Olympics

Californians Try Dunkin’ Donuts For The First Time

June 3, 2016 8:12 p.m.

Dunkin Donuts customers chucked spare coins or change from the morning coffee pickup into a bucket Friday, donating more than $1,000 countywide to law enforcement officers supporting the Georgia Special Olympics.

Police departments from Oakwood and Gainesville joined the Hall County Sheriffs Office and the Department of Juvenile Justice in collecting money Friday morning at the doughnut shop locations in Gainesville and Oakwood.

Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the total haul was $1,747.

It makes your heart happy, Gainesville Police Cpl. Jessica Van said.

With roughly $25 in her cap, Van and other officers walked around the shop and at times helped behind the counter.

We didnt want to clutter it, so instead weve been on the property inside interacting with customers, Van said, adding a full staff was present for National Donut Day.

After the pickup window, Griggs Wall from Gainesville Police and Latera Davis from the Department of Juvenile Justice collected money from a steady flow of customers.

I can say this is definitely pulling in a lot more than some of the others, Davis said comparing fundraising efforts.

The money will go toward supporting athletes at the Georgia Special Olympics.
