BET Awards had great moments but Jesse Williams" speech won the night


Jesse Williams Gives Must-See Speech At 2016 BET Awards - Justin Timberlake Faces Twitter Backlash

The BET Awards or The Prince Tribute Show featured emotional and energetic performances from Sheila E., Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Hudson honoring the Purple One, along with political statements on issues ranging from racial injustice to the U.S. presidential election.

Sheila E., jamming on the drums and guitar, singing and dancing without shoes, closed the three-hour-plus show at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Lets Work, A Love Bizarre, The Glamorous Life, America and more. She was joined by Princes ex-wife, Mayte Garcia, who danced alongside the background dancers throughout the set. They ended by raising a purple guitar in the air as the audience cheered them on.

Hudson, rocking a white-hooded blazer, and Wonder, clad in a purple suit, sang Purple Rain a month after the piano-playing icon performed the song with Madonna at the Billboard Music Awards, which BET dissed on Twitter. This time, Hudson was a vocal powerhouse, delivering screeching vocals while Wonder played piano and Tori Kelly was on guitar while a photo montage of Prince appeared on the purple-lit stage.

Janelle Monae was animated and funky as she danced skillfully and ran through Prince tunes, including Kiss, Delirious and I Would Die 4 U. Bilal was sensual and passionate during The Beautiful Ones, even lying on the floor while singing near the end of the performance. The Roots backed Bilal, and the band was also behind Erykah Badu as she performed The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, singing softly as she grooved in place.

After singing an original song, Maxwell went into Nothing Compares 2 U, changing some of the lyrics while honoring Prince.

Though the BET Awards were heavy on honoring the icon who died on April 21, the show went from Prince to political throughout the night.

Greys Anatomy actor Jesse Williams, who earned the humanitarian award for his efforts as an activist, gave a fiery, nearly six-minute speech that brought the audience to its feet and earned a rousing applause.

Were done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people out of sight and out of mind while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment like oil, black gold, ghettoizing and demeaning our creations then stealing them; gentrifying our genius and trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies, he said onstage.

Williams was introduced by BET CEO Debra Lee, who spoke about gun violence and brought up the recent Orlando shooting at the Pulse nightclub.

We all need to take stance against gun violence. You can make a difference, Lee said onstage. Use your voice and vote.

When Empire star Taraji P. Henson won best actress, she encouraged the audience to vote against presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Im really not political but its serious out here, and for those who thing that, you know, Oh hes not going to win think again. So we really need to pull together and turn this country around, she said.

Co-host Tracee Ellis Ross said she was supporting Hillary Clinton and reminded viewers several times to get yourself registered! Clinton has a past with BET: She appeared at BETs Black Girls Rock! event in April and told the audience my life has been changed by strong black women leaders.

The BET Awards wasnt all serious, though. Beyonce kicked off the show with a surprise performance featuring Kendrick Lamar and multiple background dancers of her song Freedom, dancing in a pool of water to the songs heavy beat. At one point, Lamar and Beyonc kicked the water and danced in sync, drawing a heavy applause from the audience.

Beyonce won video of the year and the fan-voted viewers choice award for her hit, Formation. Her mother, Tina, accepted the awards and said Beyonce had to quickly leave the show after her performance for a concert in London.

I want to thank, first of all, her husband and her daughter, Tina said onstage.

Alicia Keys slowed things down with a performance of In Common; Fat Joe, Remy Ma and French Montana were energetic during All the Way Up; and Desiigner was excited as he rapped Panda onstage and in the middle of the aisles, as most of the audience nodded and sang along.

Beyoncs mentees, the duo Chloe x Halle, earned a standing ovation after they sang impressively and played instruments.

Rising newcomer Bryson Tiller also performed. In a surprise win, the singer won best male R&B/pop artist, besting Chris Brown, The Weeknd, Tyrese and Jeremih. Tiller also won best new artist.

Thank G*d, thank my mommy, thank my granny. This is my first award ever, Tiller said, who was also nominated for video of the year.

Drake, who didnt attend the show though he was the top contender with nine nominations, won best male hip hop artist and best group with rapper-singer-producer Future.

Samuel L. Jackson received the lifetime achievement award and was introduced by Spike Lee. Jackson ended his speech by offering praise to Williams, calling him the closest thing Ive heard to a 1960s activist.

That brother is right and hes true, and when you hear what he said, make sure you vote and you take eight more people with you to vote, OK? Jackson said. Dont get tricked like they got tricked in London!

Prince wasnt the only icon honored Sunday Muhammad Ali was remembered by his daughter and Jamie Foxx.

To me and my eight sisters and brothers, he was just dad, Laila Ali said onstage. My father also once said, If people loved each other as much as they loved me, it would be a better world."

Foxx said Ali stood up at a time when no one was standing up. So its definitely more than boxing, more than entertainment.

Ali died June 3 after a long battle with Parkinsons disease.

Top Gear: Who will take over if Chris Evans or Matt LeBlanc quit?

One of the lesser-known members of the new Top Gear line-up could take the reins if either Matt LeBlanc or Chris Evans quits at the end of the season, the Daily Telegraph says.

According to a report in The Sun, former Friends star LeBlanc has vowed to leave unless the BBC drops Evans.

"Sources on the crisis-hit programme say Matt has grown increasingly frustrated with his co-star"s rudeness and frosty attitude towards the team," the paper says.

The actor delivered "a crushing ultimatum by announcing he will have no part in any future series that features Chris", it adds.

If one or the other of the two leads does quit, new host Chris Harris is in "pole position" to step up, the Telegraph says.

"He knows what he"s talking about, he presents it to laymen and experts (including this writer - can"t you tell?) accessibly and entertainingly, and is a commanding screen presence throughout. Like fellow new presenters [Rory]Reid and [Sabine]Schmitz, he"s also hugely popular with viewers."

While Harris may not yet have the star power to lead the show, something has to change given the show"s plummeting viewing figures, the paper concludes.

Top Gear continues this Sunday on BBC2.

Top Gear: Is the BBC considering axing the show?

Bookmakers are offering revised odds on the prospect of Top Gear being axed after the latest episode received its lowest audience in ten years.Betway quotes newly-lowered odds of 5/4 for the BBC pulling the plug on the show once this series ends. It also offers 2/1 odds on the chances of co-host Matt LeBlanc returning, suggesting that his involvement in Top Gear may be "in the balance," the Daily Mirror says.

The show"s audience has shrunk significantly since Jeremy Clarkson was dropped as host last year for punching a colleague in the face in a dispute over catering. The appointment of Chris Evans as his replacement has not been well received by fans and ratings have slid to a ten-year low.

Co-presenter Eddie Jordan has offered his support for the new host and says he believes the show will gradually become more popular under its current team than it was with Clarkson and co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond.

"Chris has done a brilliant job in difficult circumstances," Jordan said. "He has got to find something inside, like we used to urge our racing drivers. We used to want them to become more arrogant.

"That is what Chris needs to find - he has got to arrogantly believe this programme will be better, will be better run, will be more diverse and different... It will be a must-watch show."

Top Gear continues on Sunday on BBC Two at 8pm.

Top Gear: The real reason Matt LeBlanc took the BBC job

Matt LeBlanc has revealed the real reason he took up his new gig as host of Top Gear he needed work.

Speaking to James Corden on The Late, Late Show, the actor said His comedy series Episodes was "coming to an end and I needed a job.

"So I said, "Ok, why not?"" joked the presenter.

LeBlanc also told the audience that US drivers were better than Brits.

"The roads here are so much wider and bigger, but in the UK and London the roads are so narrow because they were built for horses and carts," he said.

"So in the US, if you make a mistake and get a bit wide, you maybe hit a tree or some bushes. Over in the UK, you go offline? You hit a thousand-year-old church".

British star Corden appeared on Top Gear in 2008, as part of the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" segment. "I did not do well," he told LeBlanc.

"Come back and do it again," said the actor. "It"s a new track and now it"s a rally car."

LeBlanc has won praise for Top Gear, but it"s been reported that he and co-host Chris Evans will be taking a diminished role in the rest of the series. Instead, motoring journalists Rory Reid and Chris Harris, who usually host the online spin-off show, Extra Gear, will be taking bigger roles, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Both men received good reviews for their presenting in the most recent episode of the main show. Reid, who won his slot on the show via a public audition, was shown testing the new Ford Focus RS, while Harris, who has a cult following on YouTube, featured in a film involving Ferraris F12 TDF.

Evans and Matt LeBlanc will continue to anchor the studio recording, the paper adds, but it is understood that pre-recorded material featuring the two lesser-known presenters will feature more prominently in the rest of the series.

Reid seemed to confirm this on Twitter in a conversation with a viewer.

Top Gear: Chris Evans will get another season, bookmakers say

Chris Evans"s rebooted Top Gear may have slipped to a new ratings low on Sunday, but according to bookmakers, it is more than likely that the show will be renewed by the BBC.

Odds have shifted in favour of a second season, the Daily Mirror reports.It is now 1/2 that there will be another series and 6/4 that it will be cancelled.

"Top Gear punters have been won over and there could be a complete turnaround on the cards," Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said.

"They are now banking on the new set-up lasting longer than one series."

Ratings continued their slide over the weekend, with the third episode attractingjust 2.4 million viewers, a 10.4 per cent share of the overall viewing public. The first episode had been watched by 4.3 million viewers, while the second slipped to 2.8 million.

Despite the shrinking audience, the episode garnered much more positive reviews than the first two outings.

"The inclusion of presenterChris Evans being sick after being driven around at high speed by co-presenter Sabine Schmitz and Matt LeBlanc"shigh-speed tour of the capital appears to have won over those who watched the show," the Daily Telegraph said.

The response on Twitter was "generally more favourable," The Guardian said, but it was still not enough to "turn around its overnight ratings slide."

Top Gear continues on Sunday night on BBC2.

Chris Evans photographed drinking alone after huge Top Gear ratings drop

Following months of negative newspaper coverage followed by falling ratings for his new-look Top Gear, Chris Evans has been photographed sitting alone in the street drinking wine.

"The 50-year-old was pictured necking a glass of wine as he sat slumped against a wall near his London home," reports the Daily Mail, which has been responsible for some of the most hostile articles about the presenter"s takeover of the show.

Apparently oblivious to the fact he was being photographed, Evans "took a call on his mobile phone before parking himself against the crumbling white wall of what appeared to be an abandoned warehouse just feet from overflowing rubbish bins."

The first episode of Top Gear achieved an average audience of 4.3 million viewers, just shy of Evans"s ambition for the show, but the second episode saw its audience decline massively, with 2.8 million watching.

Evans has defended the statistics on Twitter and argued that viewing patterns have changed with the advent of on-demand television, which allows people to watch shows later rather than tuning in live.

Fans of the former Top Gear presenting line-up have been particularly vitriolic about the new host. This week, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond put out videos of themselves opening and folding boxes in a tie-up with logistics company DHL, which many fans declared were "better than the new Top Gear".

In an interview with Buzzfeed this week, Evans insisted that nothing was wrong with the revamped show and that its critics simply didn"t understand television.

"I find it hilarious that people who have never made a show in their lives then presume what is wrong with the making of a television programme," he said. "Everyone is entitled to their opinions, of course they are those people have a loudhailer and that"s fine - and by the way, bring it on. That"s what I expected."

He added that he has received plenty of positive feedback and "that enough people like it and love it, actually".

He also urged fans to be patient, The Independent says, as "a single hour slot every week means it takes time for audiences to get used to change within its structure".

"In the first week of a radio show changing, there"s 15 hours of the new bloke," Evans said. "In a TV show, there"s one show every seven days, so it takes a lot more getting used to."

Top Gear: Could Chris Evans be replaced?

Another episode of Top Gear, another evening of stinging criticism.

Following complaints that he had shouted too much in the first episode, new host Chris Evans promised last night that he would get "even more shouty".

The move prompted some fans to call for the presenter to be sacked in favour of F1 racing driver Jenson Button, who made an appearance on the show putting a McLaren 675LT supercar through its paces.

Despite the enthusiasm for Button, some fans said it is unlikely the BBC would be able to afford him.

While Evans"s hosting style has had a generally poor reception, Top Gear fans have begun to warm to fellow presenter Matt LeBlanc, the Daily Mail says, "with many taking to Twitter to praise his presenting style and comment on how likeable he was".

The Daily Telegraph suggests that rapper Tinie Tempah, who also appeared in last night"s show, could be lined up as a possible co-host.

"Who would have thought that a Hollywood star and a Brixton rapper would have such a great rapport?" the paper says. "Maybe he"s ready to swap professions and join Matt on the presenting team? The pair certainly seem to have more chemistry than Matt and Evans do at the moment."

Leaked audience data reveals the BBC received 370 complaints about the first episode of the new show, making it the "worst programme on terrestrial television" in its opening weekend.

The data showed the programme had an appreciation index of 60, which is considered poor given that the average rating for BBC Two programmes over the same weekend was 82.

So far, the BBC has stuck by the show"s new host, with a spokesperson saying the first episode had good ratings when iPlayer views were taken into account.

"Chris and Matt kicked off in style and viewing figures have been growing steadily since broadcast," the spokesperson said.

Modern Family star Ariel Winter has been the target of body shamers on a few occasions now and the most recent episode came when the actress posted a picture of herself prepared for her graduation party in a skin-bearing, figure-hugging dress.

Following the post to Twitter, Ariel took to Instagram where she simply posted a pic that reminded followers and fans to embrace who they are.

As the publication shares, this isnt the first time that the actress has been the subject of body shaming. Winter spoke with ET in March and felt the need to defend a gown she had worn to the SAG Awards back in January. The gown showed off scars from Winters breast-reduction surgery that she underwent last year.

If I didnt think about them myself, clearly Im not ashamed of them. I dont know why anybody would be. Theyre not going away.

Ariel continues being bold in her fashion choices, and she looks fantastic doing so. On Friday, the 18-year-old took to social media once more where she posted a pic of herself wearing a tiny pair of daisy duke shorts and crop top that had Burt Reynolds face on it. Burt will co-star with the beauty in the movie Dog Years. The duo began filming the upcoming movie that has been described as a dark comedy in Knoxville, Tennessee, 2 weeks ago.

Ariel also used her social media site to confirm that shes definitely single and ready to mingle, by using a gif involving Kim Kardashian. Us Weekly relays the message sent by Winter.

When youre surprised that people just havent gotten it yet she wrote, along with a gif of Kardashian, 35, saying, Im like dropping hints that Im single.

The teen, who had been with boyfriend Laurent Claude Gaudette for some time, has, previous to this incident, posted a number of status updates hinting that she and Gaudette may have split; but, this is the first time that the actress has confirmed the news.

Back in October, the teen shared her initial reaction when she saw Gaudette, and what inspired her to connect with him.

It was kind of like I saw him, and I was like, I would like to get to know him. And I did! Im very outgoing, so I kind of initiated the, Hi, Im here! Its nice to meet you."

By December, it started to appear as though the two were taking some space for themselves and possibly going their separate ways. The two met in 2013 and went strong for 2 years. Winter and Gaudette have, since their split, stopped following one another on social media. However, the producer, singer and songwriter still follows Winters sister, Shanelle Workman, and co-star Rico Rodriguez.

As the Daily Mail shares, Winter isnt just a beautiful face, she also has brains to complement her beauty. The star graduated from Campbell Hall School alongside celeb Elle Fanning. Shell continue her education at UCLA this fall and eventually plans on becoming a social justice lawyer.

In January, the star spoke about why she chose the program she did.

Social justice just feels like it fits for me,. I want to continue acting and also go to law school. I think the more knowledge you have, can only better your life.

To Wimbledon Wild Card, Life Feels Lifted From a Hollywood Script

WIMBLEDON, England Wimbledon, a movie released 12 years ago, was a romantic comedy about a British tennis player on the verge of retirement who finds love, and then unlikely success at the tournament.

Over the past four months, Marcus Willis, a 25-year-old from Slough, England, has starred in a real-life version of the film, all but re-enacting its implausible plot points on the way to his unlikely spot in the Wimbledon main draw, scheduled to begin Monday.

Willis, ranked 775th before the qualifying tournament, had nearly given up on his dreams of reaching Wimbledon and was planning to move to Philadelphia, where offers of coaching jobs were waiting.

I was adamant I was going to go to America to coach, Willis said. I had called up someone about the visa and then I met a girl. She basically told me I was an idiot and that I should keep going, and Im very grateful for that.

Shortly before he had planned to leave in February, Willis met Jennifer Bate, a dentist and a mother of two. Bate said she was out on the town with a cousin as each tried to shake off wrong relationships that had just ended.

We just met, and honestly, it was a blur after that, Bate said. We went on a little walk to get some fresh air before wed get a cab. He said, Im meant to be going to America soon, and I was like: What? You cant go to America. The night we met, I said, Youve just met me; you cant just move to America. I said it jokingly, and then he told me he was a tennis player. I thought, Yeah, right, whatever.

After experiencing what she called love at first sight, Bate rushed home to tell her mother she had met the one, and Willis postponed his plans to leave England. With Bates encouragement, Willis rededicated himself to tennis, despite having endured injuries and financial hardships in recent years. In 2014, struggling with touring expenses, Willis had started a crowdfunding campaign seeking support in getting to his childhood dream tournament.

In 2016, he had played only one event, a January tournament in Tunisia at the lowest rung of sanctioned professional tennis, earning just $356. But his falling ATP ranking was just high enough to get him the last direct entry into a Wimbledon qualifying wild-card playoffs for British players. Once there, he won three matches to reach the tournaments main qualifying event.

Though British wild cards often prove to be overmatched cannon fodder in the qualifying tournament, Willis played with confidence. In his first match, against the 99th-ranked Yuichi Sugita, Willis came back from losing the first set, 6-1, to notch his first career victory over a top-100 opponent. With his unorthodox left-handed barrage of chunked slices and serve-and-volley, Willis continued his winning ways in the next two matches, beating the Russians Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev and becoming the first British player to reach the Wimbledon singles main draw through qualifying since 2008. By doing so, he guaranteed himself prize money of at least 30,000 British pounds.

Andy Murray, who ended 77 years without a British mens singles champion at Wimbledon when he won here in 2013, had practiced with Willis at the Davis Cup years earlier and called Williss qualifying a really cool story.

Hes an awkward player, has got quite a different sort of game style, Murray said. Serve-and-volleys a little bit. Hes got really good touch, good volleys, puts a lot of slice on his slice backhand, quite a spinny forehand. Hes quite an unusual player.

Those unnerving, unconventional weapons were on display when Willis made his previous best career run, to the quarterfinals of a Challenger-level tournament in Knoxville, Tenn., in 2014. There, Willis also gained notice for his tubby physique, which inspired one Facebook heckler to call him Cartman, after Eric Cartman, the corpulent cartoon 10-year-old from South Park.

Willis embraced the nickname, and while he is still bulkier than many in the sport, he has dropped 55 pounds. He still readily pokes fun at himself.

Its good banter; I enjoy it, he said.

If he wins his opening-round match Monday against the 53rd-ranked Ricardas Berankis on Court 17, a possible second-round encounter with the seven-time champion Roger Federer looms.

His weekend at Wimbledon playing among the games best I saw Djokovic earlier, and my jaw dropped; Im going to act cool and pretend its all normal now, he said has proved equally invigorating.

Im delighted, but it makes me realize I want it week in, week out now, he said. Ive got to keep working, keep my head down, and get on with it.

Bate, who was unable to cancel her Monday dental patients appointments, will follow his first-round match from afar. She said she believed she would have many more opportunities to watch Willis continue toward a Hollywood ending.

Something in his mind has just clicked, and hes ready now, she said. Hes taking it all in, and hes got plenty more in him.

The truth is out there about Jon Snow. Hi, here"s your spoiler warning for Game of Thrones" season six finale.

In the nail-biting final chapter of the season, viewers finally learned Jon Snow"s (Kit Harington) parentage. He is not Ned Stark"s son after all, but his nephew. He"s a Stark, sure, but the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. Only Bran Stark knows this truth, but you know, he"s out there in the wild while Jon Snow was named King of the North with Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) at his sidea little peeved.

"Thrones is really, at the heart of it, about dysfunctional families," Harington said in the video below.

You can say that again.

Yes, Sansa and Jon took back Winterfell and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) is no more, but the two of them have some unspoken problems. Jon asked Sansa to trust him, but he"s really not listening to her.

"I think Jon is oblivious. He hasn"t actually learned his lesson from actually trying to pay attention to what she"s feeling," Harington said about the problems that await Sansa and Jon. "He says he has, but he"s asking her to trust him. He"s not listening and watching and observing her. I think that could be a real problem for him."

Liam Cunningham, Davos Seaworth, said Jon is the right many for the job because he"ll be "decent and honorable."

"I think he"s definitely entitled to be running Winterfell, although Sansa may have a problem with that I fear," Cunningham said. "Her relationship with Jon Snow, I think, is an indication of what"s going to come and I"m not sure it"s going to be pretty."

Sansa Stark gets no respect.

"He"s named King in the North and she gets no credit for it. Jon doesn"t acknowledge everything his sister has done for him, after all of they"ve been. It"s not like she"s looking for praise or anything, she did it because she wants revenge and also wants her home back. Jon, he"s so nave, so Sansa"s just a little bit agitated is all," Turner said with a laugh.

Trump as contributing to the middle classs economic woes.

I got into this race because I wanted to even the odds for people who have the odds stacked against them, Mrs. Clinton said. To build an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top, we have got to go big and we have got to go bold.

The event was the first time the two Democrats have campaigned onstage together and is the culmination of an unlikely political alliance between Mrs. Clinton, who is often associated with her husbands centrist economic agenda, and Ms. Warren, who has assailed policies of the Bill Clinton era by tying the deregulation of Wall Street to the 2008 financial crisis.

But those differences seemed a distant memory on Monday, as Mrs. Clinton and Ms. Warren echoed similar liberal themes and took the stage together united against the common enemy: Mr. Trump.

Mrs. Warren praised Mrs. Clintons advocacy for families and children, saying she had steady hands, but most of all, she has a good heart. But she also presented the presumptive Democratic nominee as singularly suited to defeat Mr. Trump.

She knows what it takes to defeat a thin-skinned bully who is driven by greed and hate, said Ms. Warren, who has often been on the receiving side of Mr. Trumps Twitter attacks. She doesnt whine. She doesnt run to Twitter to call her opponents fat pigs or dummies.

Mrs. Clinton and Ms. Warren, both wearing shades of blue, grasped hands onstage in the grand corridor of the Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, lined with murals of workers in the fields and on factory floors. Supporters in the crowd of about 2,600 waved Girl Power signs in hopes of seeing the duo together on the ticket in the fall.

While an all-female ticket is unlikely, James Hamilton, the Washington lawyer leading Mrs. Clintons vice-presidential search, has begun vetting Ms. Warren and other candidates. Ever since she endorsed Mrs. Clinton this month, Ms. Warren has been a powerful surrogate, attacking Mr. Trump in spades and visiting the Clinton campaigns Brooklyn headquarters in New York to encourage young staff members with a simple message: Dont screw this up!

In an address that spoke to the frustration, the fear, the anxiety and, yes, the anger over an economy in which the wealthiest Americans have thrived as middle-class wages have remained virtually stagnant, Mrs. Clinton struck many of the same notes, hitting themes that elevated Ms. Warren in the Senate and fueled the candidacy of Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont in the hard-fought Democratic nominating contest.

Mrs. Clinton said that when Ms. Warren railed against Wall Street and corporate excesses from her perch in the Senate, she is speaking for all of us.

In this battleground state with inordinate weight on general elections, Mrs. Clinton delivered a forceful promise to strengthen labor unions, close loopholes that give corporations to tax breaks for moving jobs overseas, raise the minimum wage and make college affordable.

Why do the richest Americans and biggest corporations get away with manipulating the tax code so they pay lower rates than you do? Mrs. Clinton asked to boos from the crowd.

Both women framed their remarks on Monday by portraying Mr. Trump as a selfish corporate titan whose business record hasnt benefited American workers.

Mrs. Clinton ticked off a laundry list of little-known Trump enterprises. Trump suits were made in Mexico, she said. Trump furniture is made in Turkey, instead of Cleveland. Trump barware is made in Slovenia, instead of Toledo.

Living up to her newfound reputation as Trump slayer-in-chief, Ms. Warren roused the crowd with criticism of the real estate developer, delivered in her characteristically folksy but powerful style. He will crush you into the dirt to get whatever he wants. Thats who he is, Ms. Warren said.

Both Democrats have criticized Mr. Trumps response to Britains momentous decision to leave the European Union, which shocked global markets and caused the British pound to tumble to its lowest level since 1985.

On a trip to visit his Turnberry golf course in Scotland last week, Mr. Trump declared Thursdays vote a great thing and drew parallels between the rise in populist anger in Britain to voter sentiment in the United States. Basically, they took their country back, Mr. Trump told reporters, noting that a cheaper British pound would help his golf course business.

Donald Trump says h**l make America great again, Ms. Warren said, calling his slogan goofy, a take on Mr. Trumps favorite insult for the Massachusetts senator. I ask, for who, exactly? For families that dont fly to Scotland to play golf?

It was a potent one-two punch by the two most prominent women in the Democratic Party, as Mrs. Clinton echoed the criticism, saying Mr. Trump reminds us every day that hes not in it for the American people and Ms. Warren, she said, exposes him for what he is.

With Mr. Sanders not yet ready to campaign for his primary opponent (while saying he would vote for her to defeat Mr. Trump), Mrs. Clintons rally with Ms. Warren could help win over the liberal voters who flocked to Mr. Sanderss message.

Some 45 percent of Mr. Sanderss supporters now have a positive view of Mrs. Clinton, according to an NBC News-Wall Street Journal poll.

Jesse Williams" speech at the BET Awards shows he ain"t scared of white people

Last nights BET Awards ceremony kicked off with a rousing, surprise performance by Beyonc. The Lemonade artist opened her rendition of Freedom with a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr.s I Have A Dream. As her dancers marched through the aisles, Kings words rang out: When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note ... This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Beyonc continued to stun attendees and viewers, dipping into a wading pool to unleash some choreography that utilized the water around her in the fiery landscape. Later, she was joined by Kendrick Lamar, whos featured on the album track.

Kings powerful words and Beyoncs voice would not be the only ones to ring out in the Microsoft Theater that night, as Greys Anatomy star Jesse Williams gave a speech for the new generation of activists when accepting the Humanitarian Award. Williams activism includes working with Black Lives Matter, a movement that Beyoncs also openly supported. When the actor took the stage, he invoked the memories of Tamir Rice, Rekia Boyd, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, and Dorian Hunt, concluding:

Weve been floating this country on credit for centuries, yo. And were done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people out of sight and out of mind while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment, like oil, black gold. Ghettoizing and demeaning our creations, then stealing them, gentrifying our genius, and then trying us on like costumes, before discarding our bodies like rinds of strange fruit.

The thing is though, the thing is, that just because were magic doesnt mean were not real.
