US Olympic 2016 hopefuls Gabby Douglas, Simone Biles and others try hula hooping

Olympic Gymnastics Trials | Gabby Douglas Excels On Uneven Bars

It turns out having gold medal-worthy skills on the mat or the pitch doesn"t necessarily guarantee success in all kinds of fitness skills.

That much is obvious in a new video by Glamour, who invited a pack of American female Olympic hopefuls to show off their hula hoop skills on camera.

Among the athletes in the video are gymnastsGabby Douglas and Simone Biles, who both prove themselves totally hopeless when it comes to keeping a hoop from falling.

Scroll down for video

A swing... Gymnast Simone Biles is one of several athletes to star in a new video by Glamour showing Olympic hopefuls trying to master the hula hoop

...and a miss: As do many of the athletes, Simone proves less than skilled in the task, quickly losing her hoop to the ground

Similar skills: Olympic gymnastics champion Gabby Douglas has no success at all, insisting that she must have "a defective one"

"I can hula hoop for a really long time!" Simone initially boasts before letting the hoop fly. She manages maybe three rounds with the hoop before it falls to the ground.

Onlookers off screen break into laughter, to which Simone responds by laughing and exclaiming: "Is this hula hoop broken?!"

As for Gabby, she has even less luck with her hula hoop, trying multiple times before concluding:"I have a defective one!"

After even more unsuccessful attempts, embarrassed Gabby exclaims in exasperation: "Oh my gosh... why?!"

"Isn"t this like a really good ab exercise or something?" Paralympian Jessica Long shows herself to be a bit of a rookie on the hoop

Defeated: Olympic champion Kayla Harrison seems annoyed with her own unsuccessful attempts, saying "I"m a judo player! I should be good with my hips!"

Not so much: Kayla Banwarth lets out a loud squeal as she fails to keep the orange hoop circling around

Having a laugh: Kristin Armstrong tries her best to keep the hoop above her hips but eventually loses it to the ground

Simone and Gabby are joined by plenty of their fellow Rio 2016 hopefuls, including Jessica Long, a Paralympic swimmer, who remarks to the filmmakers:"Isn"t this like a really good ab exercise or something?" before similarly failing at the task.

"I"m competitive so I have to do it for a long time," says another Olympian Kayla Harrison, who also becomes shocked that she isn"t any good at working the hoop. "I"m a judo player! I should be good with my hips!"

Volleyball player Kayla Banwarth lets out a squeal as she drops her hoop, while sprinter Allyson Felix gives an honest try, dropping to bended knees to try and keep her hoop from falling.

BMX pro Alise Post, swimmer Maya DiRado and diver Abby Johnston all barely get the hoop around their hips once before losing the rhythm, while shooter Kim Rhode takes a different route by swinging the hoops around her arms.

A different idea: Kim Rhode takes a different route by swinging her hoops over her arms

Some success: Swimmer Natalie Coughlin and wrestler Adeline Gray show that not all athletes are failures at the hoop

Keeping it up: Hurdler Dawn Harper Nelson displays her skills and claims that "for me, it"s nothing"

Showing how it"s done: RunnerAlysia Montano claims she could hoop "literally... all day"

Not every athlete is a total failure at the task, however. Swimmer Natalie Coughlin manages to work up an impressive rhythm, eventually asking the filmmakers if they want her to keep going.

Wrestler Adeline Grey also manages to hoop her way to a big smile and an exclamation of "Yay!" to the camera.

"For me, it"s nothing," says hurdler Dawn Harper Nelson as she keeps her hoop going seemingly with ease. "Skills. Skills."

Similarly successful is Alysia Montano, who extends her arms with a confident gesture as she hoops away. "Literally....all day!" she says.

Lee la resea de la pelcula "The Secret Life of Pets"

Now You See Me 2 - Movie Review

NOW YOU SEE ME 2

Director: Jon M. Chu

Protagonistas: Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Lizzy Caplan, Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Caine y Morgan Freeman

Duracin: 2 horas, 9 minutos

A woman identified her husband, Alva Braziel, as the man who was shot and killed in Houston Saturday

Houston police shot and killed a man after he pointed a gun at them, authorities said.

Two officers saw a man standing in the road on the city"s south side around 12:40am Saturday, according to the police department.

They asked him to put down the gun, but he pointed it in the air instead before aiming it at the officers, police said.

The officers fired numerous times, fatally hitting the man. A woman told ABC 13 he was her husband and identified him as Alva Braziel.

Witness Eric Puckett confirmed to the network the man was a black male. The races of the two officers remained unknown as of Saturday morning.

The two officers have each spent 10 and 13 years in the force according to ABC 13. They were wearing body cams at the time of the shooting, the department said.

Internal affairs and Harris County will investigate the shooting.

It came one day after a gunman shot 12 officers and two civilians in Dallas, killing five of the city"s officers.

He acted during a Black Lives Matter rally, which itself was held in protest against the shooting death of two black men at the end of police in Minnesota and Louisiana.

Officers shoot, kill gunman on Houston"s south side

Alva Braziel Shot 10 Times & Killed By Houston Police

HOUSTON --

Houston police said two officers shot and killed a man who was armed on Houston"s south side early Saturday.

The shooting happened on Cullen near Yellowstone around 12:40 a.m. Officers said they saw a man with a revolver standing in the road. There were two officers in one vehicle and they asked the man to put the revolver down. The man then pointed the revolver in the air and then pointed the revolver at officers, police said.

Immediately after, HPD said, officers fired numerous shots at the man. He died at the scene.

A woman who claimed to be the man"s wife identified him as Alva Braziel.

According to authorities, the officers involved were wearing body cameras at the time of the shooting.

One of the officers is a 10-year veteran of the force, and the other has been with the force for 13 years. As part of the routine following any officer-involved shooting, the officers will be investigated by internal affairs, along with Harris County.

A bystander, Eric Puckett, told ABC affiliate KTRK-TV it was a black man that died and said black men in the area are targeted.

"It"s like we got a target on our back even if we innocent, it hurts. You don"t even want to walk outside your house no more. But to all the young black men and young black women out there, all black people do something positive," Puckett said.

A nearby gas station captured the scene and police said the video will confirm what happened, along with witness testimony.

Police continued to investigate at the scene where a large crowd has gathered. Shell casings and a revolver were also seen among the evidence markers.

Area city council member Dwight Boykins said these issues need to be addressed in the community.

"The biggest gorilla in the room is very clear," said Boykins. "We need to put officers in neighborhoods that reflect the neighborhood."

5 innovative uses for your smartphone"s camera

Fox News debuts electoral map

There are so many great uses for your smartphones camera other than taking selfies and family photos. Before you unplug any cables in and around your television, for example, snap a few pictures of all the audio and video gears connections. And the next time you rent a car, take a photo of it that includes the license plate.

Your phones camera can be an indispensible tool. Here are five ways to start using it to improve your digital life.

1. Scan documents

Your smartphone"s camera makes a great portable document scanner. You can use it to scan contracts, documents, receipts, business cards or anything on paper that you want to make digital. Then, you can share your scans via email or text, or export them as PDF and JPG files.

Evernote Scannable for the iPhone and iPad automatically rotates, crops, and adjusts images so your scans are easy to read. If you use an Android device, the Google Drive app has a built-in scanning feature.

2. Look upUPC barcodes

The next time youre shopping and wondering if you are getting a good deal, pull out your smartphone. Forget about doing a Google search. Instead, use your smartphones camera and take a picture of the products UPC code.

UPC code scanner apps provide a myriad of data right at your fingertips. Aside from product details, they cull online and brick and mortar store prices and then present the findings in a digestible format. On one screen, you will know who truly has the best price.

Quick Scan for iOS and ShopSavvy Barcode & QR Scanner for Android seem to offer the widest range of available products and stores.

Tip in a tip: If you have the Amazon app on your phone or tablet, use it to scan a products barcode to be taken directly to the products page on Amazon.

3. Translate languages

International travelers will love this amazing use of a smartphones camera. Ever try to read a foreign menu, visitors plaque, or signbut you didnt have a clue what it said? Say adis, arrivederci, ciao, au revoir, or good-bye to those days in these and 24 more languages.

Just aim your smartphones camera at the text and the Google Translate app will magically transform that foreign language into the language of your choice. Watching the words change in real time feels like science fiction.

Google Translate currently supports 29 camera translation languages. It also offers instant speech translation for 32 languages by using voice recognition. Google Translate is available for both iOSand Android.

4. Star gazing

How many times have you looked up at the night sky and wondered if that bright light was a planet or a star? SkyView for iOS or Android is right up your alley.

Using augmented reality, this app uses your smartphones camera to spot celestial objects. Simply point your camera skyward and SkyView will guide you through constellations, galaxies, stars and even man-made satellites and their locations. It will also track the location of the sun and the moon at any chosen date, past or future.

5. Finding restaurants

Did you know that the Yelp app has an augmented reality feature called Monocle?

By using your smartphone"s camera and compass, Yelp"s Monocle feature overlaysmarkers and tiles of restaurants and bars around your immediate area. You use your camera to scan around to locateestablishments relative to your orientation. It also gives you the usual Yelp reviews and details.

This is handy if you are walking around, looking for a place to eat. Just fire up Yelp"s Monocle, search for restaurants and bars, and let it guide your way.

Bonus: Security camera

You can use your smartphones camera as a mini surveillance system. Maybe you want to watch a specific drawer, medicine cabinet, jewelry box, your cubicle at work, the door to your room if you have roommates, or what"s happening in your hotel room while you"re out.

Specialty apps use your phone"s camera to sense motion, and then alert you via email or text. Apple users will want to download the Manything app. Android users can grab the Salient Eye app.
