"Ghostbusters" 2016 Movie Theme Song Slammed; Most "Disliked" Too?

Ghostbusters (2016) The TRUTH About the Controversy

Controversy seems stuck to Ghostbusters 2016 as the reboots new theme song also received its fair share of criticism.

Fall Out Boy remade the original theme song with a guest rap by Missy Elliot, News.com.au reported. Yet would it stand up to the version released by Ray Parker Jr with the original Ghostbusters movies, the publication pondered. Sadly, it might have missed the mark, as the publication described early reviews of the remake as savage. Polygon compared it to the infamous Vanilla Ice song Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go! for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2.

Dirk Libbey of Cinemablend wrote that it barely qualifies as music. Headmitted to his earlier anticipation aboutFall Out Boys role in the reboots new theme. Libbey surmised the band was the ideal choice to do it given the silly reputation of the original theme song but his anticipation ceased whenhe heard the remake.

What is this amelodic nightmare fuel? The song keeps repeatedly telling me that its not afraid, but now Im scared. In fact, that single phrase is a perfect example of the problem. Its trying way too hard, Libbey wrote.

The classic line used in the original version is I aint afraid of no ghosts. Its a line spoken by an overly cocky Ghostbuster who is confident in their abilities, whether or not they really should be. m not afraid, says something different. Its somebody trying to convince themselves that theyre not afraid, and theyre obviously lying to themselves, Libbey added. However, varied reactions among YouTubers could raise hope for the reboot. To date, the verdict is far better than the reception of the movies trailers. Thus, could this indicate peoples willingness to give the movie a chance?

Consequence of Sound published the official soundtrack listing for Ghostbusters 2016and fans would be happy to know that Parkers version is included. Asterisk-marked songs do not appear in the film, the publication noted.

Its been an uphill battle for the reboot since news of its all-female cast broke out. However, supporters arehopeful that skeptics will realize the reboots brilliance in the end. Listen to the Ghostbusters (Im Not Afraid) from Fall Out Boy featuring Missy Elliot.

Serena Williams vs Angelique Kerber Wimbledon 2016 final, live: Serena wins her 22nd grand slam

Serena Williams final press conference

[agency]

SerenaWilliams insisted she was not focused on No. 22.

Said she wouldn"t discuss it.

Kept coming close without quite getting it.

Now she finally has it. And so she can flaunt it.

Williams lifted both arms overhead and raised two fingers on each hand right there on Centre Court to show off the magic number after winning her record-tying 22nd Grand Slam title by beating Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-3 in the Wimbledon final on Saturday.

"Yeah, it"s been incredibly difficult not to think about it. I had a couple of tries this year," Williams said during the trophy ceremony. "But it makes the victory even sweeter to know how hard I worked for it."

She pulled even with Steffi Graf for the most major championships in the Open era, which began in 1968. Now Williams stands behind only Margaret Court"s all-time mark of 24.

This was Williams" seventh singles trophy at the All England Club - only Martina Navratilova, with nine, has more in the Open era - and her second in a row. Her victory at Wimbledon a year ago raised her Grand Slam count to 21, but while she almost had added to that total since, she was not able to.

There was a stunning loss to Roberta Vinci in the U.S. Open semifinals in September, ending Williams" bid for a calendar-year Grand Slam. Then came losses in finals to Kerber at the Australian Open in January, and to Garbine Muguruza at the French Open last month.

"Time heals," said Williams" coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. "By losing, you realize things."

But in the rematch against the fourth-seeded Kerber on Saturday - the first time in a decade two women met to decide multiple major titles in a single season - the No. 1-ranked Williams came through. This goes alongside her six championships at the U.S. Open, six at the Australian Open and three at the French Open.

The 34-year-old American did it, as she often does, with nearly impeccable serving. She slammed 13 aces, including at least one in each of her first eight service games. She won 38 of 43 points when she put a first serve in.

And she faced just one break point - at 3-all in the second set, it represented Kerber"s only real opening - and shut the door quickly and emphatically, with a pair of aces at 117 mph and 124 mph, her fastest of the afternoon.

There was more that Williams did well, though. So much more. Facing the left-handed Kerber"s reactive, counter-punching style, Williams was by far the more aggressive player during baseline exchanges, trying to make things happen. And she did, compiling a big edge in winners, 39-12.

Williams returned well, hammering second serves that floated in at 75 mph and breaking serve once in each set. And she volleyed well, too, winning the point on 16 of 22 trips to the net, including a tap-in on the last point. Soon enough, she was wrapping Kerber in a warm embrace, then holding up those fingers to symbolize "22."

"At the end, I was trying everything, but she deserved it today. She really played an unbelievable match," said Kerber, who hadn"t appeared in a major final until beating Williams in Melbourne. "I think we both play on a really high level."

It was breezy, but that didn"t seem to hamper Williams, whose older sister Venus sat in her guest box, a couple of seats over from music"s power couple of Beyonce and Jay Z.

Kerber, a German who knows Graf well, defeated Venus in the semifinals and hadn"t dropped a set on her way to the final. But on the grass that suits Williams" game so well, Kerber simply could not quite keep up with the trophy on the line, although it was a high-quality match that was more competitive than the scoreline might indicate.

"I also played a good match," Kerber said. "That makes it a little easier for me."

Williams lost only one set this fortnight, the opener of her second-round match against Christina McHale of the U.S. last week. After dropping that tiebreaker, Williams sat in her sideline chair and proceeded to smack her racket repeatedly against the grass, before flinging the equipment so far behind her that it landed in the lap of a TV cameraman.

That earned Williams a $10,000 fine, but perhaps it pointed her in the right direction. She won all 12 sets she"s played since. And later Saturday, Williams had a chance to head home with a second piece of hardware: She and Venus were scheduled to play in the women"s doubles final on Centre Court.

"This court," Williams said, "definitely feels like home."

UFC 200: Amanda Nunes stuns Miesha Tate in first round as Brock Lesnar beats Mark Hunt

UFC 200: Weigh-in Recap
Predictions for UFC 200 with Gareth A. Davies and Michael Bisping

Gareth A. Davies and Michael Bisping, the UFC middleweight champion and FOX Sports analyst, look ahead at some of the fights at UFC 200, while Gareth, with England & Lions prop Alex Corbisieropredict the big fights this weekend at UFC 200on our correspondent"s regular UFC radio hour.

Heavyweight: Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt:

Michael Bisping: Brock Lesnar is coming into the UFC with a lot of pressure here. Hes the big WWE star and of course in the past he was the UFC heavyweight champion. He was dominant, but then got soundly beaten a few times. Hes been away for about three years and he hasnt been boxing with any mixed martial arts training. But I can see Mark Hunt knock him out cold. And Brock Lesnar will probably regret the day he decided to sign up for the UFC again. Prediction: HUNT by KO

Gareth A. Davies: I agree with Bisping on Brock but it all depends on whether Mark Hunt can quell the takedowns of Lesnar. Hunt is so smart on his feet and has such command of range and timing with his hands, Brock will be outclassed in the stand-up. Hunt has also been so active, and there will be huge ring rust in the big man. Expect a bulrush early from Lesnar, and Hunt to be smart with feet, and heavy with his hands. Prediction: HUNT by KO

Life After Death Row: A Guide to Snoop Dogg"s Post-"Doggystyle" Career

Dr. Dre - Still D.R.E. ft. Snoop Dogg

The quarter-century-long career of Calvin Broadus a.k.a. Snoop Doggy Dogg is full of contradictions. Hes a husband and father whose devotion to his family is evident in such heartwarming reality shows as Snoop Doggs Father Hood and Snoop & Son: A Dads Dream, yet who continues to make his name as a kush-puffing, big booty-snatching, West Coast-repping libertine. He routinely portrays his youthful, pre-stardom days as a weed-slanging Crip as a male rite of passage, and an everlasting source of brotherhood bound by honor and street codes. And over a two-decade-plus career, hes established himself as one of the best rappers in his genre despite only making one indisputable classic with his G-funk bible, 1993sDoggystyle. Snoop may not measure up with linguistically superior contemporaries likeIce Cube and 2Pac when it comes to lyrical bars-for-bars. But when it comes to languid vocal cadences, pure flow, Long Beach cool, and an unflappable persona, few can do it better than the Doggfather. He was quite possibly the first rapper to traffic in vibe.

In some ways, Snoops plight is similar to LL Cool Js in an earlier era: Hes ultimately a singles artist, and hes logged so many urban-radio smashes that we often take the albums containing them for granted. Perhaps Snoops artistically (and commercially) underwhelming new album,Coolaid which has received significantly less attention than, say, the euphoric G-funk nostalgia that greeted Dr. Dres Compton justifies that conclusion. But many of his past highlights including, for instance,2004s Rhythm & Gangsta are packed with so many bangers that they deserve more than their negligent reputation.

With Uncle Snoop enjoying a fresh round of attention via Coolaid and, his scheduledperformanceat the, uh, Democratic National Convention, perhaps its time we weeded (cough) out the Super Crips dense catalog and debunk the myth that the man hasnt made an essential album since Doggystyle.

Lets skip past Doggystyle, of which we all know the greatness. But dont forget about 21 Jump Street, from the Murder Was the Case soundtrack, where he and LBC homie Tray Dee spit game over a boogie bounce and a chorus lifted from Steve Arringtons 80s funk chestnut Nobody Can Be You. As for Snoops second album,Tha Doggfather, its marred by the drama surrounding his label: Dr. Dres exit at the beginning of 1996 and 2Pacs murder two months before its release in that November. Theres clear tension throughout, but it still contains bangers like the hydraulics-inducing Up Jump Tha Boogie. And just before Snoopy escaped the crumbling Death Row empire, he offered a fan-beloved, promo-only jewel in Midnight Love. His troubled and uncertain lyrics about life amidst the senseless violence that marked mid-90s gangsta rap These problems probably have a n***a gray or deceased, he raps belie the songs bluesy groove and Raphael Saadiqs buttery-smooth hook.

It may be weird to imagine now, but Master P deserves credit for virtually saving Snoops career buying out his Death Row contract and offering him refuge from the demonic Suge Knight. The first two albums Snoop recorded for New Orleans No Limit empire mostly underwhelmed, particularly when he tried to hang with his new Southern friends on odd-couple duds like Tru Tank Dogs. But they have their moments: 1998s Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told was preceded by the buoyant car-hopper Still a G Thang. While its dismissed by some critics at the time as G-funk boilerplate, the tracks an underrated sequel to Snoop and Dr. Dres seminal 1992 smash. Another standout was the deep cut Game of Life, a gripping tale of hustling and banging alongside Oakland duo Steady Mobbn.

For B Please from 1999s No Limit Top Dogg, he reunites with Dre and resurrects his ragamuffin flow from The Chronic years; its a virtual blueprint for Dres own early-00s revival. The following yearsTha Last Meal is the best of Snoops No Limit periodand includes memorable hits like the Timbaland-helmed jitterbug Snoop Dogg (Whats My Name Pt. 2).Amidst this G-funk renaissance, Snoop formed Tha Eastsidaz with Tray Dee and Goldie Loc. Highlights from the groups two albums include Got Beef, which has a memorable sing-song chorus from Snoop (If you got beef with DPG, then holla at me, the D-O-G), and Welcome 2 Da House, where his homegirl protgs, Doggys Angels, drop flows over synthesizers and champagne glass-clinking cowbells.

You could frame this as the Neptunes era, when Snoop linked up with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo for blasts of spidery synth lines and club-smashing drum kicks. Beautiful, from 2002s Paid tha Cost to Be da Bo$$(the title alludes to Snoops hard-earned status as a free agent), is merely a summery table-setter for 2004s Rhythm & Gangsta: The Masterpiece, which overflows with superior Neptunes-helmed hits like Lets Get Blown, Signs, and, of course, the jolting, minimalist brilliance of the huge, all-snare-and-mouth-clicks hit Drop It Like Its Hot. As a near-classic fusion of Snoops street bona fides with mid-00s pop appeal, Rhythm & Gangsta set the course for Snoops career to the present day of packing albums with a handful of radio heaters and enough West Coastin throwbacks to keep longtime fans satiated.

Equally solid is 2006sTha Blue Carpet Treatment, which doesnt include any Neptunes sure-shots but soars with Candy, a hyphy knocker with a Ladybug Mecca hook; Vato, where B-Real of Cypress Hills nasally croak takes center stage; and Imagine, where Snoop and Dre muse about their unexpected paths in life. Sexual Eruption, an inspired homage to 80s electro-funk freakiness that inspired a classic VHS-damaged video fantasy, is better than anything else on 2008s water-treading Ego Trippin, but theres also some strong album fodder like the Isley Brothers-sampling Press Play and the surprisingly sweet-natured breakup song Waste of Time.

Is Snoop the funny and wise elder at the family barbecue, or the corny middle-aged dude trying to kick it with the kids at the club? His material since 2009 has leaned both ways. That years Malice N Wonderland is a sonic tattoo parlor of leering teen bait (anyone remember the jerkin dance fad that he unsuccessfully tried to bandwagon with I Wanna Rock?); the exception is his breezy duet with The-Dream,Gangsta Luv.Doggumentary, from 2011, is a no-thrills collection of EDM and Auto-Tuned pop, although it has a smokers-in-arms duet with Willie Nelson (Superman), a halfway-decent trip-hop escapade with Gorillaz (Sumthin Like This Night), and, if you dig deep enough, a little bit of gangsta bliss (Cold Game).

His brief makeover as the Rastafarian Snoop Lion on 2013s Reincarnatedis best forgotten; his reunion with Pharrell on 2015s unremarkable Bush proves you cant go home again. But a collaborative soundtrack with Wiz Khalifa for the 2011 straight-to-Netflix comedy Mac & Devin Go To High School where the fortysomething Snoop plays a high-school jock brought Young, Wild & Free, a cheerily ephemeral ode to the stoner children of America. Much better is his 2013 project with L.A. electro-funk maestro Dm-Funk as 7 Days of Funk, and frizzy and sensuous jams like Do My Thang.

Unfortunately, the just-released Coolaid fits snugly into Snoops late-period dilemma of being adrift among trends. Theres a trap choon, a pass disco-funk number, and a duet with Jeremih. But theres also Super Crip, which has a crazy, spooked-out Just Blaze beat that should evoke vague but rightful comparisons to the canonical Deep Cover. Snoops everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach often means his albums sound more like a grab-bag of songs than a piece of music with concepts and themes. Yet, true to his contradictory nature, its his ability to mine a bit of gold against the chaff, along with his legendary reputation as a West Coast O.G., that continues to hold our attention. Hes got plenty of hot ones hidden in plain sight, some folks just need to learn their motherf**kin names.

Correction: An earlier version of this post misidentified the release year forPaid tha Cost to Be da Bo$$; it was released in 2002, not 2003.

Bobcat great gets second crack at NBA summer league

2016 NBA Summer League - Day 3 - Highlights | July 4, 2016

D.J. Cooper left Ohio University basketball fans with a lasting impression as one of the best to ever wear the Green & White.

Cooper is now hoping to make a new first impression on the NBA.

Cooper, a Chicago native, was named to the Washington Wizards 2016 Las Vegas Summer League roster, the franchise announced on Tuesday.

Cooper will be a part of the Wizards 17-player summer league roster headed up by first-year head coach Scott Brooks. Washington was to begin play in the event on Saturday night. Each team is guaranteed at least five games.

The Wizards, after Saturdays opener, will play Atlanta on Sunday and Brooklyn on Tuesday in a pair of 4 p.m. starts. Both games will be broadcast live on NBA TV.

The upcoming stint will be Coopers second run through the NBA summer league. Cooper played in both the Las Vegas and Orlando league in 2013, the same year he exhausted his NCAA eligibility at Ohio.

Hes hoping for better results this time, however.

In 2013, Cooper played in just one game with the Philadelphia 76ers in the Orlando league. He logged 14 minutes and scored six points.

In three games with the Golden State Warriors in the 2013 Las Vegas league, Cooper played just 27 minutes. He was 0-3 from the field, with four rebounds, five assists and six turnovers.

Cooper crafted a legendary career with the Bobcats from 2009-2013. He led the Bobcats to a pair of Mid-American Conference tournament championships, two trips to the NCAA Tournament, a MAC regular-season title and a trip to the National Invitational Tournament.

Hes the only player in NCAA Division I history to notch at least 2,000 career points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds and 300 steals. Cooper finished 12th in NCAA history in career assists with a MAC record 934, and ranked second in conference history with 327 career steals.

Cooper is Ohios all-time leader in assists, steals and games started, and ranks fourth in points (2,075).

Cooper was a 2013 AP All-American honorable Mention and the 2013 MAC Player of the Year. He was also a three-time All-MAC First Team selection.

After his first run in the NBA Summer League, Cooper has spent the three years since bouncing around Europe playing professionally.

Cooper has competed for PAOK of the Greek Basket League (10.2 poings, 6.5 assists per game in 10 games), Yenisey Krasnoyarsk of Russia (11.2 ppg, 9.1 apg, 29 games), Panathinaikos of the Greek Basket League (3.6 ppg, 1.7 apg, 7 games), Krasny Oktyabr of Russia (12.3 ppg, 10.9 apg, 9 games), AEK Athens of the Greek Basket League (10.9 ppg, 6.1 apt, 8 games) and AS Monaco Basket of Ligue Nationale de Basket Pro A of France (7.1 ppg, 6.4 apg, 22 games).

While Washington has established John Wall as its point guard of the present and foreseeable future, playing the summer league is a tryout for the entire association.

Im hungry for any opportunity, Cooper said in 2013. I just need a chance to show what I can do. Even if the team Im playing for doesnt take a shot with me, theres 30 other teams there watching during the summer league.

Theyre watching every move you make.
