Lil" Kim takes her toddler out, and the comments are brutal

Teyana Taylor After Lil" Kim Tribute "I Practiced My Heart Out!" & Da Brat Reacts
Share Pin Share Tumble

Combined comments & shares on social media

Too many people with a Twitter account and far too much time on their hands seem to be drunk on the power of being able to tweet whatever they want about whomever they want. Free speech is a right, but things start to get really gross and wrong when mean and hurtful comments are directed toward children.

Lil" Kim is no stranger to criticism about her appearance. But when the rapper brought her 2-year-old daughter, Royal Reign, with her to the VH1 Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens event in New York City, an absurd number of adults, who should know better, tweeted some really hateful things about her toddler, whose left eye appeared to be slightly closed and/or asymmetrical to her right eye.

More:These parents turned their kids" drawings into incredible tattoos

The "Crush on You" star was honored at the event with an award for groundbreaking MC. In her acceptance speech, she proudly gave a sweet shout-out to her daughter: "My beautiful baby, Royal Reign, is in the building," she said. "My beautiful baby!"

And a beautiful baby she is indeed. Instead of using Twitter as a platform where they could extend the conversation about Lil" Kim as a performer whether they are in agreement that she is one of the most memorable female MCs of all time or anything else they want to say about her career some folks tweeted horrific comments like these:

More: When celeb parents posted these photos, the internet blew a gasket

Some commenters wondered whether Royal Reign has a "lazy eye." A birth defect. But, you know, not out of concern.

Others just made silly and insensitive remarks about her eye and about her mother, forgetting, I suppose, that Royal Reign is a defenseless child and that there is no excuse for trolling a defenseless child or her mother, for that matter.

More:Before you bash JWoww"s baby photo, get your facts right

Children and, yes, even the children of celebrities who put their lives out there for public consumption, deserve our protection. What kind of message are we sending when we use social media to mock a 2-year-old for her eye? Obviously appearance is, above all other things, the most important thing of all, and the sooner a toddler learns to hate her body, the better. Second, if we don"t like the changes a woman like Lil" Kim has made to her own appearance, then by all means, it"s totally within our right to harshly judge both her and her child.

Whatever happened to "if you don"t have anything nice to say, don"t say anything at all"? Hiding behind a computer and spewing hatred about a child adds a whole lot of damaging noise pollution that society certainly doesn"t need.

Midday open thread: Serena Williams, Chelsea Manning, and Joe Paterno

Howard Stern on Joe Paterno

Tuesday Jul 12, 2016 12:01 PM PDT

2016/07/12 12:01

Teachers who build supportive atmospheres "[allow] students to get to know one another across differences," Cappella says. "And when you get to know each other across differences, you see other kinds of similarities that may be more hidden as well."

The importance of Serena"s victory and her sixth Wimbledon doubles championship win with her sister Venus is intimately connected with the week of trauma and the fact that cries of black lives matter currently ring out in the streets. Those cries are a demand for justice, yes, and that demand is inspirational to anyone who believes in said justice. But theyre also rooted in a fear that a better tomorrow may never come, and in terror and grief over the present cavalcade of images of dead black bodies. Saturday was a rare instance in which a sporting event was transfigured into something more, a symbolic victory that both helped assuage trauma and provided real hope. No living athleteperhaps of any gender or in any sporthas represented the spirit of that hope more than Serena.

Video Of Draymond Green Being Taken Into Custody

Video: Arrest Of Draymond Green Caught On Video

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor assault and battery over the weekend near the Michigan State campus, police said Monday.

The alleged incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the city where Green played for the Spartans from 2008 to 2012.

East Lansing Police Lt Scott Wrigglesworth said the alleged victim, an adult male, was not injured and did not flag down an officer after the incident.

We typically have numerous cops out when the bars let out, Wrigglesworth said.

If convicted of assault or assault and battery, Green could face 93 days in jail, a $500 fine or both.

Messages seeking comment were left for Green, an NBA All-Star who was selected to play basketball for the U.S. at the Olympics next month. The Warriors said the team was collecting information about the incident and declined further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation.

We are in contact with the Warriors organization and are in the process of gathering more information, NBA spokesman Mike Bass said.

Records from the East Lansing District Court show that a $200 cash bond was paid and that Green was scheduled for arraignment on July 20. A pretrial hearing will then be scheduled, at which it will determined if there is a resolution to the case, according to East Lansing City Attorney Thomas Yeadon.

Green helped Golden State come within a game of repeating as NBA champions last month after helping the franchise win a league-record 73 games and being named an NBA All-Star for the first time. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward is a versatile player on offense, ranking second in the NBA with 13 triple-doubles last season. He a two-time all-defensive team player.

Green sparks his and his teams performance with a lot of passion and aggression that has drawn discipline from game and league officials. He was suspended a game by the league for a fourth-quarter scuffle with LeBron James in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, which the Cleveland Cavaliers won in seven games.

Why Bernie Sanders is backing a $1.5 trillion military boondoggle

Bernie Sanders: Election must bring people together

A closer look, however, suggests that the senator has just been doing what he was elected to do: seeing to it that his state enjoys a steady flow of jobs and dollars. He"s also bolstering Vermont"s reputation as a good place for the aerospace sector to do business, even if that"s not the first thing that comes to mind.

"People don"t think of Vermont as an aerospace state; they think we"re all cheese, maple syrup and skiing," said Patricia Moulton, secretary of Vermont"s Agency of Commerce and Community Development. "We have a very robust aerospace sector, and we have a number of advanced tech firms that find Vermont a great place to do business."

She said that the two largest aerospace companies in Vermont are GE Aviation and UTC Aerospace Systems, and she also noted the presence of another 30 small to mid-sized companies. Altogether, she estimated that this accounts for more than 2,000 jobs, which the F-35 program is positioned to complement.

"The F-35 accounts for over 1,400 direct and indirect jobs, with an economic impact of over $124 million in Vermont," said Eric Schnaible, F-35 International Communications Manager for Lockheed Martin. This figure accounts not only for 1,100 jobs with the Vermont Air National Guard, but with jobs within the aerospace sector and other local businesses. While 45 states and Puerto Rico are involved in the production of the aircraft, Vermont specifically is home to three supplier locations, and according to Business Insider, the plane"s bay doors and GAU-22/A gun system are both produced there.

The 1,400 jobs may not sound like a lot, but Chittenden County, where Burlington is located, has a population of only 161,382 people. It would have an enormous negative impact on the local economy if 1,400 of those people all simultaneously become unemployed.

The jets will also play a role in the state"s economy in 2019, when 18 are scheduled to be stationed at Burlington International Airport as part of the Vermont National Guard program to grow its active-duty maintenance force. Gene Richards, the airport"s director of aviation, said that those F-35s represent the future of the Guard"s relationship with Vermont. The program extends the financial contribution of the Guard well into the future by picking up where the widely used and soon to be replaced F-16 will soon leave off.

Richards said that it"s not only Sanders who supports keeping the hardware in Burlington. He said that Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin, Lt. Gov. Phil Scott, Sen. Patrick Leahy and Rep. Peter Welch have all done their part to keep the program where it is, and he characterized their attitudes as "very supportive." A look at the numbers makes it easy to see why.

"There"s at least 1,100 Air National Guard jobs involved with F-35," said Moulton of Vermont"s Agency of Commerce and Community Development. "We estimate there"s about $50 million in direct payroll, and the program will involve some pretty decent upgrades to the Vermont airport."

She added that her agency expects the program to stimulate growth in the aerospace sector by creating business for local suppliers. So what would happen if the program didn"t have a home in the state?

7-Eleven cops record $400000 in fines

Dexta Daps 7 Eleven Official HD Video

The chairman and chief executive of 7-Eleven convenience stores in Australia resigned on September 30 last year, following allegations that franchises systematically underpaid workers. Picture: William West

MASSIVE fines being handed out to rogue 7-Eleven operators mean rival small retail businesses will no longer be at a competitive disadvantage, says the National Retail Association.

Yesterday, a Brisbane 7-Eleven store owner and his company copped record fines of more than $400,000 after being found by the Federal Circuit Court to have systematically exploited workers.

The penalty is the latest in a number of actions against 7-Eleven franchisees following a Fair Work Ombudsman investigation last year.

The Federal Circuit Court on Monday fined West End store owner Sheng-Chieh Lo $68,058 and his company Mai Pty Ltd $340,290 after he was found to have short-changed 12 staff more than $82,000.

Judge Michael Jarrett found Lo had shown contemptuous disregard for Australian workplace laws and had sought to deceive the Fair Work Ombudsman.

The penalties against Lo and his company are the highest ever achieved by the ombudsman, eclipsing a ruling in Perth in 2013 by almost $65,000.

Lo underpaid 12 employees, including several international students, a total of $82,661 between September 2013 and September 2014.

The court ordered Mai Pty Ltd rectify more than $35,000 in underpayments that remain outstanding.

Mr Jarrett said Lo and his company had systematically exploited his employees by paying flat rates as low as $13 an hour and trying to cover up the low wages through a sophisticated system of data manipulation and false record keeping.

Mr Los contempt is demonstrated by his persistent attempts to deceive the Fair Work inspectors investigating the relevant complaints, Mr Jarrett said.

And his insistence, undertaken in a secretive way, that any amounts he paid to the relevant employees to make good ... (his companys) defaults should be immediately paid back to him. Los store was one of 20 7-Eleven outlets targeted by Fair Work inspectors in surprise late-night visits in September 2014.

Ombudsman Natalie James said the record penalty should serve as a warning to employers.

We will continue to be persistent with our compliance activities, even when confronted by employers who deliberately seek to mislead us with false records and where vulnerable employees are involved, Ms James said.

Even if they themselves are too afraid to talk to us.

NRA acting chief executive Ian Winterburn said not only would migrant and youth workers benefit but so would small retail businesses, which may have had trouble competing with a nearby 7-Eleven business.

Certainly people have been exploited and the business following the regulations properly are now no longer disadvantaged, Mr Winterburn told AAP.

It (systemic exploitation of workers) doesnt create a level playing field and has given an unfair advantage to those (unscrupulous) people.

Weve done quite a bit of work with our franchise members and weve been engaged in a lot of audits to make sure they are compliant.

Mr Winterburn said the NRA had been conducting wages seminars to educate its members for the past six months and expressing the need to be diligent in following workplace regulations.

He said any discrepancies they had discovered were only minor.

But Mr Winterburn did admit the fines also highlighted the complexity of the workplace relations system.

Theres no doubt that this is a highly complex area of regulation, and we know from experience that many small business owners struggle to understand their obligations and comply with the volumes of workplace law, he said.

(Its) why many of them simply opt to close their doors or only use family members behind the counter at times when penalty rates may apply.
