Chick-fil-A Just "Dropped a Bomb" on Black Lives Matter

Chick Fil A Original with Lemonade

Claim: Chick-fil-A released "Back the Blue" shirts in the wake of July 2016 "Black Lives Matter" protests.

WHAT"S TRUE: In 2015, high school employees at a single Chick-fil-A in Texas created their own "Back the Blue" shirts.

WHAT"S FALSE: Chick-fil-A has not voiced support for either movement in question; "back the blue" is not tantamount to "a bomb on Black Lives Matters"; the shirts were not created or distributed by a franchise (much less the company); the shirts had nothing to do with Black Lives Matter protests in July 2016.

Chick-Fil-A-just-dropped-a-bomb-on-black-lives-matter-police-officers-are-pumped. . . this is circulating on face book with a picture of chick fil a employee wearing a t-shirt. . .is this true?

Origin:Two days after the 7 July 2016 shootings in Dallas that killed at least five police officers, multiple web sites published items reporting thatChick-fil-A had essentially "chosen a side" inboth the tragedy and Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality:

According to that version (and several like it) Chick-fil-A "unveiled" the shirts on or around 9 July 2016, presumably in response to events in Dallas:

Its not too often a large company like Chick-fil-A gets involved in a controversial topic, but they have thrown themselves right smack in the middle of the Black Lives Matter movement with a statement that has millions of people talking across the country.

Blue Lives Matter is a movement that counters BLM by encouraging citizens to support police officers that put their lives on the line every single day for citizens across the country. Police officers are here to protect citizens and will do so regardless of color, as long as you cooperate and obey the law.

To show support for law enforcement, Chick-fil-A has unveiled their Back The Blue t-shirts:

Nearly every version of the popular tale was written from a standpoint that presumed thateither people either opposed police officers or Black Lives Matter:

The claim about Chick-fil-A introducing "back the blue" shirts specifically in response to events in July 2016 was easily proven untrue. In November 2015, the pro-law enforcement web sitePoliceOne covered the appearance of the shirts at a single Texas location of the chain in October 2015:

Employees at the College Park Chick-fil-A wore "Back the Blue" shirts to show support to law enforcement, Independent Journal reported.

"Were supporting those everyday heroes that protect us," location manager Eli Advincula told the publication. "There are [police officer] regulars that eat here all the time, and we just want them to know that.

The blue also symbolizes the local high school football team.

That post itself linked to a Facebook photograph of a child wearing a "back the blue" shirt unrelated to Chick-fil-A:

Also linked was an article identifying the location of the shirts as Conroe, Texas; notably, an embedded Facebook post had since been deleted. We contacted Chick-fil-A corporate to ask whether the shirts were created in 2016 or were a chain-wide issue. A representative told us that the shirts were the work of high school employees, and that they were worn at a single location in Texas in October 2015.

Sports|"Deflategate" Suspension Stands as Tom Brady"s Latest Petition Is Denied

Top 10 Tom Brady Highlights of 2015 | NFL

Tom Brady, the New England Patriots quarterback, is all but guaranteed to start the season on the sideline after a federal appeals court on Wednesday denied his request to review his four-game suspension for his role in a scheme to deflate footballs.

The decision, announced in a one-page notice by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, may also put an end to one of the most widely watched and embarrassing scandals in the history of the N.F.L. The case, which began in January 2015, raised awkward and unseemly questions about the powers of the commissioner and the motivations of one of the most decorated players in league history.

Brady can still ask the Supreme Court to hear his appeal to have his suspension overturned, but given the timetable of the court, and the fact that the season begins in less than two months, the chances of any relief coming before opening day are remote.

As a result, it is all but certain that the Patriots will be led by the little-tested backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo when the Patriots open their season on Sept. 11 against the Cardinals in Arizona. Brady, who can attend training camp and play during the preseason, would not be eligible to return until the fifth week of the season, when the Patriots play the Browns in Cleveland.

The case began at the A.F.C. championship game on Jan. 18, 2015, when officials determined that some game b***s used by the Patriots were underinflated, presumably to make it easier for Brady to grip them in the wet weather. An investigation by the league determined that Brady was generally aware of a plot that involved Patriots staff members to deliberately deflate the b***s.

N.F.L. Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Brady for four games, and he upheld his own decision when Brady appealed the suspension. Brady sued in federal court to have the decision overturned, arguing that the commissioner was a biased arbitrator, that the penalty was never explicit in the N.F.L. rules and that the commissioner used a different standard when deciding to uphold his first ruling.

In a surprise ruling, Brady won that case. The N.F.L., however, was able to persuade a three-judge panel in the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit to overturn the ruling. Bradys request to have the case reheard in front of a full panel of judges was denied, despite the support of a number of leading legal minds who wrote briefs on his behalf.

While the N.F.L. will no doubt view Wednesdays decision as a victory and an affirmation of the commissioners broad powers to mete out punishment to players he deems to have hurt the image of the N.F.L., the case continues to divide fans. It was widely viewed as a farce because the league spent millions of dollars fighting a successful franchise and a celebrated star who helped lead his team to four Super Bowl titles.

The N.F.L. Players Association said it was reviewing its options, but did not specify whether it would appeal to the Supreme Court. In a statement, the players union said that the Goodell made clear violations of our collective bargaining agreement.

Despite todays result, the track record of this league office when it comes to matters of player discipline is bad for our business and bad for our game, the union said. We have a broken system that must be fixed.

No, Bernie Sanders supporters won"t flock to Donald Trump

Bernie Sanders Endorses Hillary Clinton

To no one"s surprise aside from some deluded Trumpkins Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., delivered a robust endorsement of Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire Tuesday:

"I have come here to make it as clear as possible as to why I am endorsing Hillary Clinton...This campaign is not really about Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump or Bernie Sanders ... This campaign is about the needs of the American people and addressing the very serious crises that we face. And there is no doubt in my mind that, as we head into November, Hillary Clinton is far and away the best candidate to do that."

That message was deftly crafted make the race about bigger issues and remind Democrats they may not love Clinton but she is "far and away" the best choice for his former followers. He preserves his principles by slyly reminding voters that it"s virtually inconceivable liberals would prefer Trump to Clinton.

The amateurish Trump camp then exploded with a series of news releases (they hired a rapid response staffer, so I suppose he needs to show he"s working) to remind voters Sanders said mean things about Clinton in the race. Shocking, I know. Whom is this aimed at? Surely the Sanders people are not going to be wooed by Trump"s nasty accusation that Sanders" endorsement is now "Exhibit A in our rigged system the Democrat Party is disenfranchising its voters to benefit the select and privileged few." Calling Sanders a hypocrite is no way to make friends, but then, Trump cannot manage to solidify his GOP support as Clinton has now accomplished. Moreover, the Trump adviser"s description of Clinton bizarrely accusing her of launching a war in Iraq (!?!) should suffice to remind us that if conservative, internationalist, pro-free-trade Republicans are looking for a candidate, they"d do better with Clinton than Trump.

It was ludicrous from the get-go to think Sanders" followers pro-gay rights, pro-choice, pro-immigration, pro-environmentalist, pro-nationalized health care supporters, pro-Black Lives Matter would rush to the candidate who has insulted women, minorities and the disabled, wants to build a wall and deport millions (while keeping all Muslims out) and has suggested women should be punished for abortions. Indeed, as The Washington Post"s Greg Sargent details, the pro-Clinton super PAC has a series of ads highlighting many of those stark differences (e.g., on minimum wage, education, immigration).

"Bernie voters will choose Trump" is another morsel of self-delusion the Trumpkins have been munching on as they head toward electoral defeat. Other lies they tell themselves Trump will rewrite the map; Hispanics love him; he"ll self-fund; he hires the best peoplehave likewise evaporated. You wonder how they imagine he"s going to win the election. More important, you wonder if the Republican National Committee delegates seeing Trump"s electoral "plan" (if he ever had more than "go on TV") fizzle will start wondering just how big a loss the GOP would suffer with Trump at the head of the ticket. Could they lose both houses of Congress? Would he drag down GOP gubernatorial candidates as well?

In short, Sanders" endorsement should remind onlookers that for all her faults, Clinton is running a comparatively competent campaign and successfully unifying her party. That"s more than Trump can say. Sad!

Joe Paterno knew of abuse, unsealed documents allege

Joe Paterno Faces Growing Penn State Scandal

Newly unsealed court documents detail former Penn State football coach Jerry Sanduskys pattern of abuse among young men. They also allege that head coach Joe Paterno knew about the abuse and that he dismissed a victims complaint about Sandusky.

Here are the other explosive details revealed in the documents, which were part of a civil suit.

I have a football season to worry about

One victim, designated as John Doe 150, said he told Paterno that Sandusky had put his finger in [the victims] r****m. According to the victim, Paterno dismissed him, saying I have a football season to worry about.

I was shocked, disappointed, offended, the victim said. I was insulted.

Another victim, John Doe 75, was not interviewed for Sanduskys criminal trial, but he described a 1987 incident in which coach Joe Sarra, also of Penn State, walked in when Sandusky had his hand down the victims pants.

My mind was manipulated so bad that you think like some of this stuff is normal, John Doe 75 said. Like its scary.

NFL coach implicated in documents

Another deposition included is from Mike McQueary, former Penn State assistant coach turned key witness in Sanduskys trial. He testified that he observed Sandusky molesting a young boy in the Penn State football showers in 2001.

McQueary said he told Timothy Curley and Gary Schultz two crucial members of the Penn State sports administration team at the time what he had seen. He was contacted by the men after reporting the incident to Paterno.

New in this deposition, though, is that McQueary had also discussed the incident with coach Tom Bradley, who said another assistant coach had come to him with similar allegations in the 1990s, according to the deposition. That man was Greg Schiano, who went on to become the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and later the associate head coach for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Over the years, Bradley has repeatedly denied knowledge of any of Sanduskys abuse. CNN has reached out to Schiano and Bradley for comment.

Its unclear if Paterno knew about these additional coaches knowledge.

Curley and Schultz were also deposed as a part of the case. Both refused to answer most of the questions, citing their rights under the Fifth Amendment.

Reaction from Penn State

Paternos family issued a statement in response to the documents, which were part of a civil suit between Penn State and Pennsylvania Manufacturers Association.

The materials released today relating to Joe Paterno allege a conversation that occurred decades ago where all parties except the accuser are now dead, the statement read in part.

As previously reported by CNN, documents filed in the case in May indicate that Paterno was aware of allegations against Sandusky as early as 1976.

Penn State President Eric J. Barron additionally issued a statement regarding the documents release, emphasizing that alleged knowledge of former Penn State employees is not proven, and should not be treated as such.

Penn States overriding concern has been, and remains, for the victims of Jerry Sandusky, the statement continued. While individuals hold different opinions, and may draw different inferences from the testimony about former Penn State employees, speculation by Penn State is not useful.

What Chick-Fil-A Did In The Aftermath Of The Orlando Shooting Will Silence Its Critics Forever

Though the fast food chain is famously closed on Sundays, several employees decided to go into work this past Sunday tomake food for the hundreds of people who were waiting in line to donate blood.

AnotherOrlando-based Chick-Fil-Aposted a photo of their flag at half-staff as a tribute for the victims.

Our restaurant, along with a couple of others in the area, simply responded just like numerous other Orlando businesses and residents have done we came together as a community to lift those in need, the restaurant said in a statement.

In 2012, the son of the chains owner set off a wave of protests when he said he supported traditional marriage during an interview.

We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles,Dan Cathy said.
