Thomas Gibson Fired From "Criminal Minds"

Thomas Gibson has hired a top Los Angeles lawyer to possibly pursue a lawsuit after the actor was fired from Criminal Minds following an alleged altercation on set, Us Weekly can confirm.

The 54-year-old actor, who played FBI special agent Aaron Hotchner on the hit CBS drama prior to his August 12 termination, tapped litigator Skip Millers law firm, Miller Barondess, to represent his case. Gibsons action comes just hours after he was officially fired by ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios for allegedly kicking show writer Virgil Williams in the leg during an argument on set a few weeks ago.

Juan Martin del Potro tops former champion Rafael Nadal in Olympic semifinal

Rafa Nadal y Marc López ganan Medalla de ORO en la Final de Dobles Masculina en RIO

Rafael Nadal"s bid for an unprecedented second Olympic singles gold medal ended with a thrill-a-minute semifinal loss to the resurgent Juan Martin del Potro.

Del Potro, who earned a bronze for Argentina four years ago, will add a silver or gold to that after advancing to the Rio de Janeiro Games final by coming back to stun the third-seeded Nadal 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Saturday.

Using the same ferocious forehands that carried him past No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the first round a week ago, del Potro now will try to pull off a third surprise on Sunday, when he meets defending champion Andy Murray in the best-of-five-set final.

The No. 2-seeded Murray earned a gold in singles and a silver in mixed doubles for Britain at the 2012 London Games.

No tennis player has won two Olympic singles golds, let alone two in a row.

"It would mean a lot, obviously," Murray said after beating fourth-seeded Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-1, 6-4 to stretch his winning streak to a career-high-tying 17 matches. "It"s obviously not an easy thing to do. That"s why it"s not been done before."

Standing in Murray"s way now will be del Potro, who won the 2009 U.S. Open but has fallen to 141st in the rankings after missing 2 years" worth of Grand Slam tournaments because of three operations on his left wrist.

He beat two-time major title winner Stan Wawrinka at Wimbledon in June, then used all of his 6-foot-6 frame to produce intimidating forehand after forehand that Djokovic couldn"t fend off a week ago. That same formula worked against Nadal, with 18 of del Potro"s 19 groundstroke winners coming off his preferred wing.

It"s been a tough road back for del Potro, who got down on his back, spread-eagle, near the Olympic logo after the riveting semifinal ended with Nadal sailing a forehand wide. Moments later, del Potro knelt down and kissed the dot atop the middle letter of "Rio" near the five rings.

Del Potro"s celebration wasn"t finished: He leaped into the front row of stands for a group hug with some of the thousands of flag-waving, name-chanting fans who rooted so vociferously for their man.

Nadal, a 14-time Grand Slam champion, earned the singles gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Games, and added a doubles gold on Friday night, teaming with his good pal Marc Lopez. But instead of another medal of that color, he will be trying to go home with a bronze now by beating Nishikori on Sunday not bad, considering he missed 2 months with an injured left wrist.

Cowboys Agree To Terms With Travis Frederick On Six-Year Extension

Cowboys Training Camp Highlights (Second Week) | NFL

LOS ANGELES As the Cowboys kicked off the 2016 season, they did some business for the years to come, as well.Just prior to kickoff of their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams, they agreed to terms with Pro Bowl center Travis Frederick on a six-year, $56.4 million contract extension. The terms of that deal, once official, will make him the highest-paid center in the NFL.

This shouldnt come at a surprise, given the comments coming out of the Cowboys front office this summer. The team had been negotiating with Frederick in the weeks since they arrived in California for training camp two weeks ago and made no secret about it.

Well just continue to grind it out and hopefully find something thats great for Travis and works for our club as well, said Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones last week. Hes one of those guys you want on your football team. Hes obviously a great football player on the field, but a better guy off.The Cowboys drafted Frederick No. 31 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft a pick that initially drew sharp criticism around the NFL landscape. In the time since, Frederick has earned to two trips to the Pro Bowl and continually proven himself as one of the top centers in the league.

Fredericks rookie deal was initially worth $6.8 million over four years, though the Cowboys picked up the fifth-year option on his contract. Prior to this extension, Frederick was scheduled to make $8.8 million during the 2017 season. With Frederick locked up, the Cowboys can now turn their attention to the other big pieces of their offensive line. Fellow Pro Bowler Zack Martin was drafted one year after Frederick and is eligible to have his fifth-year option picked up next spring.

Lael Collins also has two years remaining on the three-year, $1.6 million contract he signed as an undrafted free agent last spring.I dont know how many different ways we can say it, but its the strong point of our football team the strength of it, Jones said. The amazing thing about it is that its not only a strength if in terms of on the field, but they represent everything we want in terms of the work ethic and what they do off the field. Its a great group to try and keep them all together. Read

Yankees move on from Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez gets roll call in last Yankees game

NEW YORK Obviously there"s more to it, but in a way, maybe there isn"t. On Saturday morning Alex Rodriguez was cut by the Yankees, reduced to one sentence in an PR email along with a few othertransactions.

It read as such:

  • Unconditionally released DH Alex Rodriguez.
  • Signed to Major League contracts and selected INF/OF Tyler Austin (#26) and OF Aaron Judge (#99) to the 25-man roster from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Optioned RHP Ben Heller to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
  • Transferred RHP Conor Mullee to the 60-day disabled list.

Harsh, perhaps, but reality. A new era is here for the Yankees if evidenced by nothing else than two two big moves you can see there: Judgeand Austin(and rookie Gary Sanchez two weeks ago).

"It"s strange," manager Joe Girardi said of theA-Rod-less day. "I have a lineup card, and his name"s not on there. And there"s not another Rodriguez in our organization who"s up in the big leagues who makes me think he"s on there ... I think about all the great players that have walked, not just through these doors but the doors that were across the street, that eventually retired.

"It"s difficult. But you know that the game goes on and you move on and there"s a new set of faces and there will be new stars here. And you get excited about that."

Rodriguez finished his career with the Yankees after an emotional Friday nightin the Bronx as New York beat the Tampa Bay Rays, 6-3. He went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI that he collected in the first inning.

"I"ve got to tell you, it"s going to be tough to top that," he said afterward. "That"s a memory that I will own forever."

A-Rod remembers everything

General manager Brian Cashmansaid he got the chance to talk with A-Rod, who he"s had battles with over the years, before and after Friday"s game.

"Last night was a special night," Cashman said. "Had a chance to talk to him before the game, had a chance to talk after the game. I think it was great for Alex, great for our fans. Great for our win column. Also nice that he helped impact us as well. The roster has been changing a lot so today is a new day. It"s been a new day quite often lately, to be honest. We"ve had a lot of changes, some quality people we"ve said goodbye to and a lot of quality people we"ve been saying hello to. It"s the nature of the beast."

Forthe first time since 2003 the Yankees will play a baseball game without Alex Rodriguez on the roster in some capacity.
