TMZ is reporting that his suicide was triggered by Lewy body dementia and the hallucinations it can cause.
His family says he was struggling with this disease, caused by a build-up of abnormal protein in the brain.
Lewy body is the second most common form of dementia: 1.3 million people in the U.S. have it.
Common symptoms include:- Trouble with problem solving- Hunched posture- Shuffling walk- Visual hallucinations- Depression- Apathy and anxiety
It is often misdiagnosed as Parkinson's. An accurate diagnosis is critical because if Haldol and other Parkinson's drugs are administered to a Lewy body patient it can have devastating consequences.
