Matt Barnes -- Hookin" Up with Rihanna A Real Possibility
A reliever started today, and it ended poorly. Which is nothing new for a team that"s given Joe Kelly as many starts as Boston.
In his first major league start, Matt Barnes did a pretty good job of driving home exactly why the Red Sox had never given him a role in the rotation, allowing six runs to the Indians in an 8-2 loss.
If you"ve seen a Joe Kelly start this season, you"ve seen what Matt Barnes did today. Three scoreless innings. Three strong scoreless innings. The sort that make you wonder why everyone"s so down on the kid. Then the lineup gets a second look at him, and it"s all over. Not the shutout, but the game. After Francisco Lindor struck out to start the fourth, five straight Indians reached. If the big hit that broke things open--a two-run double off the bat of Lonnie Chisenhall--saw Hanley Ramirez do his best impression of a little league reject backing up to the warning track as the ball went hopelessly over his head, well, it was Barnes who gave up a hard hit ball to the wall.
By the time the fourth was finally over, the Indians had five runs to Boston"s one, scored on a solo shot from Travis Shaw, who also produced the other Boston run by singling home Josh Rutledge in the ninth, and continues to intrigue with his bat. Barnes gave up another run on a solo shot to Carlos Santana in the fifth, which would prove his last inning of the game.
There was a moment during that Santana homer. Mookie Betts headed back, then slowed as he realized it was beyond reach, and ended up coming to a rest leaning on the bullpen wall, arms crossed, sharing some words with Robbie Ross Jr. It was a moment of defeat. Betts had just laid out to make a great grab in center to save Barnes more trouble, and there was the man on the mound, not even giving him a chance to do the same. That"s all the better parts of the Red Sox outfield ask of their pitchers, but they don"t get it.
That"s not Matt Barnes" fault, honestly. After all, Barnes is a reliever. The Sox have been working him as a starter in Triple-A, but it"s apparently towards an end of improving his performance out of the bullpen in the long term. That he was called up for this game was just a matter of circumstance, the fault of a stray ball in batting practice knocking Steven Wright out of action. Barnes is a bystander in all of this, and nothing more.
But whoever"s at fault, it"s a d**n shame to watch a young player like Betts go all-in to save a hit in a 5-1 game, only to have the next ball hit in his direction sail over the wall to make it 6-1. Guys like Xander Bogaerts know it can be different. He, like Dustin Pedroia before him, was baptized with a championship. A World Series is a lot to ask for, obviously, but it would be nice to show him even just a competitive Red Sox team. One where that homer is the exception, and not the rule. Where a 6-1 deficit inspires a "just one of those nights" conversations rather than "same as always."
Bella Thorne Shades PewdiePie at 2015 Teen Choice Awards?
Screamingwith style.
Bella Thorne turned heads at the Teen Choice AwardsSunday night in a super-short Balmain minidress from the label"sResort 2016 collection.
The orange and tan patterned dress verged on being too short, but paired with n**e, strappy sandals that elongated her alreadylong legs, the 17-year-old pulled it off in a classy, age-appropriate way.
Thorne took home the Best Villain surfboard for her role in "The Duff." We"re going to go ahead and say she won for best dressed, too.

Don"t mess with Rihanna. She"ll call you out.
Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes is finding out the hard way after seeming to confirm rumors the two were sort of an item. Rihanna shot back on Sunday, seeming to suggest the two hadn"t even met.
Barnes and his estranged wife Gloria Govan both talked to TMZ in recent days about the rumors, with Barnes saying they were "just past the crush stage" and Govan saying she didn"t mind the two hooking up, as long as the hip-hop star hooked her up with concert tickets.
Well, RiRi has heard enough. Just check out the hashtags on her Instagram response to Barnes" interview.
Matt, haven"t you seen the video for "B*tch better have my money"? You don"t play around with RiRi.
(Plus, she"s probably dating Lewis Hamilton anyway ... you know, according to TMZ)
HBO Miniseries: Show Me a Hero – Justice Trailer (HBO)
Show Me a Hero: As TV projects go, pedigrees dont get much better than this. Youve got David Simon, who created one of the best TV shows ever in The Wire, as showrunner. An Oscar winner, London, Ont.-born Paul Haggis, directs. And Oscar Isaac, who earned raves for Inside Llewyn Davis and snagged a role in the hotly anticipated new Star Wars franchise, is the lead actor. The supporting cast are no slouches either, with Alfred Molina, Winona Ryder, LaTanya Richardson Jackson and Catherine Keener on board. The miniseries dramatizes a real-life battle over public housing in 1980s Yonkers, N.Y. (HBO at 8)
Teen Choice Awards: If Show Me a Hero is TVs version of high culture, I guess this is the low. Its the annual bash at which celebrities gather to accept surfboards for things like Choice Male and Female Hottie, Choice Movie Liplock and Choice Movie Hissy Fit. The prizes, in the fields of TV, film, music, sports, fashion, comedy and the web, are chosen by teenage fans. Dont kid yourself, the stars know which side their bread is buttered on; theyll be there. The groups 5 Seconds of Summer and Little Mix (featuring one Perrie Edwards, a.k.a. Zayn Maliks ex) are to perform, and Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Josh Peck (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) co-host. (Global at 8)
Humans: Its Season 1 finale time for this eight-part series. While the drama about the interactions between humans and artificially intelligent servants known as synths hasnt been pulling in Walking Dead-level ratings (or even Mad Men ratings, for that matter), it has already been renewed for a second season. In the closer, the fugitive synths are capture by Hobb (Danny Webb), but Laura Hawkins (Katherine Parkinson) and her family come up with a scheme to save Anita (Gemma Chan) and her robot friends. (AMC at 9)

Utahs Tony Finau, who tied for 14th in the U.S. Open in June, will play in his second major when he competes in the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits GC in Kohler, Wisconsin this weekend.
Finau tees off at 7:15 MDT, the same time as Tiger Woods, but the two wont be playing in the same threesome. Finau will tee off the No. 1 tee with South Africas Brenden Grace and Australias Danny Lee, while Woods tees off No. 10 with Martin Kaymer and Keegan Bradley.
The 25-year-old Finau is having an outstanding rookie season on the PGA Tour, already banking $1.7 million this year and easily securing his spot for next years Tour, ranking No. 42 on the FedEx Cup list. He got into the PGA Championship because he is one of the PGAs top 70 money-winners over the past year.
Fruit Heights Daniel Summerhays, who played in the U.S. Open this year, just missed qualifying for the PGA, but could get in as an alternate if a couple of players withdraw at the last minute. As of Wednesday, Summerhays was the No. 2 alternate to get in the tourney behind Swedens Carl Pettersson.
Sandys Steve Schneiter has played in a dozen PGA Championships over the years, including 2014, as one of the low 20 club pros from the annual National Club Pro tournament. However this year, he couldnt compete in that event because it conflicted with the U.S. Senior Open.
