2016 Rio Olympics Results: Team USA Still The Champion, Defeats Australia In Exciting Basketball Game

Rio Olympics 2016 Highlights, Best Moments, Results (Day 3 - August 8, 2016)

Recent 2016 Rio Olympics results revealed an exciting game from Team USA and the Australian Boomers. Ultimately, the Americans were able to keep their title as the reigning Olympic champions.

Fox Sportsreported that Australia lost 88-98 to Team USA. The Boomers were able to earn more admirers, though, as they proved their determination to nab the Olympic gold medal after winning against France and Serbia.

The game proved to be exhilarating as the Boomers had the lead by two points early in the final quarter. Team USA did all that they can to keep their champion status.

Veteran Carmelo Anthony scored 31 points for the game. Australia"s Patty Mills got 30 points. Matthew Dellavedova"s double-double (11 points, 11 assists) took him center stage for the second game in a row. His teammate, Andrew Bogut, expressed his disappointment over the 2016 Rio Olympics results.

"We had every opportunity to push that game... we still lost the game, it doesn"t mean anything," Bogut told Channel 7. "I know people are proud of us an we"re not supposed to beat these guys... but we believe we can beat them and we lost the game."

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Kevin Durant previously shared his confidence that Team USA will not be beaten by the Boomers. Anthony also admitted that he was not worried about Matthew Dellavedova being in the Australian team.

It was noted that Team USA was too complacent early in the game before finally nabbing the victory. Bogut also made it clear that the Boomers were not in the 2016 Rio Olympics to "get their shoes signed" by Team USA.

The list of events happening on Aug. 11, Thursday, in Rio de Janeiro time, Aug. 12 in the U.S. revealed that World champion Mitch Larkin would continue his rivalry with the Americans at 11:26 a.m. for the Men"s 200m backstroke swimming competition. At 12:01 p.m., Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte will compete at the Men"s 200m individual medley.

U.S. women"s beach volleyball team eliminated from Rio tournament

Top 10 Revealing Moments in Women"s Beach Volleyball

RIO DE JANEIRO - American beach volleyball duo Lauren Fendrick and Brooke Sweats Olympics are over.

The pair fell to Russians Evgeniya Ukolova and Ekaterina Birlova in their final qualifying match on Thursday afternoon, a loss that puts them in last place in Pool A and ends their Olympic run.

On a breezy and cool day at the stadium on Copacabana Beach, Fendrick and Sweat challenged the Russians gamely. The first set was a back-and-forth affair, and while the Americans played well, the Russian duo routinely kept points alive with their length and defense. The final play of the first set was illustrative a Fendrick spike was kept alive with a diving save from Ukolova, and then placed perfectly with a looping winner from Birlova. The Russians won the set, 21-18.

The second set was similarly close, with points traded back and forth. The wind picked up as the set went on, and you could see the players struggling to adapt as the gusts swirled around the court. With the score tied at 20-20, the crowds intensity picked up, and chants of USA roared out as the teams traded point after point. The Americans eventually won the set, 26-24.

The third set was more of the same, points traded back and forth, the score never swinging more than a point or two in one direction. It was finally the Russians who put it away, winning the set 15-13 and the match.

The crowd, which at times this tournament has been profoundly anti-American, was mostly calm and neutral for the match. There was one fan holding a Russian flag who would yelp loudly before every Fendrick serve, which some American fans countered with yells of their own before the Russian duo would serve.

Both teams stood at two points in Pool A entering the match, trailing the leading teams from Brazil and Poland, who have 6 and 5, respectively.

This is Fendrick and Sweats first appearance in the Olympics.

Angelina Jolie might be coming to Georgetown University as a visiting professor. But, the air about her visit is still not clear.

As of now, it does not look like she will be paying a visit,as the college officials of the university have stated that she does not have any current plans to extend her London School of Economics (LSE) gig. However, the rep assured that such a visit or a standing visit may materialize in future and the university looks forward to the Hollywood star to come and shape young minds in the nation"s capital.

The rep also emphasized that Jolie and William Hague have an open invitation to share their perspectives and experiences anytime they are able to. Notably, Us Weekly had reported last week that the "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" actress would be coming to Georgetown University for a similar guest lecture that she plans to do at the London institution this fall.

For those who do not know, Jolie had helped for the opening of the Centre for Women, Peace, and Security at LSE last year with the help of Hague, a former British foreign secretary. In May, she signed up to become a visiting professor at the institution for this fall and released a statement saying that she hopes other academic institutions will follow this example as it is vital to broaden the discussion on the advancement of women"s rights so that crimes against women may come to an end.

She also expressed excitement at the prospect of teaching, saying that she looks forward to teaching and learning from the students, as well as sharing her own experiences of working in the United Nations and with other governments. The executive director of Georgetown University, Melanne Verveer, had also said in May that she had met Jolie on her recent trip to London and they discussed ways through which they could continue the collaboration between the sisters academic institutions.

It may be mentioned here that in the proposed fall visit, the 41-year-old Oscar winner intends to share her knowledge about women, peace, security and other subjects that are close to her heart. She will be doing so through lectures and workshops.

Angelina Jolie To Teach At Georgetown University This Fall? Not So Fast Professor Jolie

Angelina Jolie Pitt: Refugee system breaking down - BBC News

Georgetown University students are in for a disappointing semester. A representative of the university recently confirmed that Angelina Jolie would not be teaching a course this year despite the rumors to the contrary.

According to People, many thought that Jolie was going to extend her teaching spot at the London School of Economics to Georgetown University.

However, Rachel Pugh, a university rep, put an end to the rumors and confirmed that the actress was staying in London for the time being.

Georgetowns Institute for Women, Peace, and Security is recognized around the world for its work to advance and promote the role of women in peace and security. We enjoy a partnership with the London School of Economics as part of that work, where Angelina Jolie and William Hague are scheduled to teach a class in the fall, Pugh shared. There are no current plans for Mrs. Jolie to teach at Georgetown.

E! Online is reporting that Jolie will take part in a series of lectures with Hague at the London School of Economics this fall. The pair will discuss issues of women, security, and peace.

Their class will include a mixture of workshops and lectures and will span over the 2016 and 2017 school year.

I am very encouraged by the creation of this masters program. I hope other academic institutions will follow this example, as it is vital that we broaden the discussion on how to advance womens rights and end impunity for crimes that disproportionately affect women, such as sexual violence in conflict, Jolie shared in a previous statement.

For her part, Jolie is being tapped to share her extensive experiences in working with worldwide aid organizations and the United Nations.

I am looking forward to teaching and to learning from the students as well as to sharing my own experiences of working alongside governments and the United Nations, the Hollywood star continued.

Angelina Jolie has also been rumored to have political aspirations. [Photo by Milos Bicanski/Getty Images]Angelina Jolie is currently a United Nations special envoy for refugees and is well known for her aid efforts and charitable donations. The actress has also been active in advocating for human rights and has used her fame as a platform to raise awareness about troubled regions around the world.

Even though Jolie is not expected to join the staff of Georgetown University in the fall, students havent given up hope just yet.

Is there a chance that Jolie will be invited to lecture at Georgetown University in the future?

According to NY Daily News, Pugh left the door open for Jolie and said the actress is more than welcome to teach at some point in the future.

Angelina Jolie and William Hague have an open invitation to share their experiences and perspectives at Georgetown anytime theyre able, she explained in the interview.

Jolie and Hague, a former British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, worked together to establish a Center for Women, Peace, and Security at the London School of Economics.

Their upcoming class will be offered to graduate students at the university who are interested in working in a similar field.

For now, it isnt clear if Jolies position at the school will extend beyond the coming year.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. [Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images]OK Magazine reported on Jolies involvement at Georgetown University after she landed a teaching position in London.

The university was believed to have hired Jolie as a guest lecturer even though she never attended college herself.

Unfortunately for Georgetown University students, it doesnt sound like they will have a class with the Tomb Raider star this year.

However, the students in London will have a chance to enroll in Jolies class, which is expected to fill up to maximum capacity without much trouble at all.

Tell us! Would you want to take a class taught by Angelina Jolie? Let us know in the comments below.
