Shot Put Gold Won By USA"s Michelle Carter - First Medal Since 1960

American Michelle Carter upset favorite Valerie Adams of New Zealand to win gold in theshot put at the Rio Summer Olympics Friday night.
Carter, the daughter of Olympian and three-time Super Bowl champion Michael Carter, went yard with a 20.63-meter final throw to win the United States" first medal in the women"s shot put sinceEarlene Brown won bronze in1960.
It also dethronedtwo-time defending champion Adams, who was looking to be the first woman to win three consecutive Olympic shot put titles.
Anita Marton of Hungary won bronze.
