Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le"Veon Bell missed several drug tests

How Le"Veon Bell"s Possible 4-Game Suspension Could Impact the Steelers | NFL

A day after reports surfaced that Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le"Veon Bell faces a four-game suspension for missing a drug test, the NFL Network reported Saturday that Bell actually missed several.

Those missed tests violate the NFL"s substance-abuse policy.

Friday, sources told ESPN that the suspension is the result of a missed drug test, not a failed one. Bell"s appeal is expected to be heard before the start of the season.

If the appeal is not overturned, Bell would miss the first four games of the season. Players are tested once for recreational drugs between April 20 and July.

Bell was suspended for the first three games last season -- which was later reduced to two games -- for violating the substance-abuse policy after he was arrested for DUI and marijuana possession in the summer of 2014.

Bell, who had right knee surgery last November, said recently he was on schedule for when the Steelers" camp opens on July 28. He suffered a torn MCL and PCL in Week 8.

The 24-year-old fourth-year running back played in six games last year and rushed for 556 yards with three touchdowns.

Bell, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, was a Pro Bowl and First-Team All-Pro choice in 2014 after rushing for 1,361 yards and eight touchdowns, with 854 receiving yards and three TDs.

Steelers star Le"Veon Bell facing four-game suspension, per reports

2016 Fantasy Football: RB Rankings Update Le"Veon Bell Suspension, DeAngelo & Ezekiel Elliot

The news that Pittsburgh Steelers star running back Le"Veon Bell is potentially facing a four-gameban for violating the NFL"s drug policy may not affect the Ravens directly. The two rivals don"t play for the first time until Nov.6 at M&T Bank Stadium with the rematch set for Christmas Day at Heinz Field.

However, it certainly could affect how the AFC North plays out, as the Steelers are considered by many pundits as the preseason favorite to win the division. Pittsburgh is already playing the season without wide receiver Martavis Bryant, who was suspended for at least a year for violating the league"s substance-abuse policy.

Now, Bell, one of the league"s top all-purpose backs, will be suspended for the first four games unless he wins his appeal, which should be heard before the start of the regular season, according to ESPN.

Bell reportedly faces the suspension for missing drug tests, which constitutes a violation of league policy. The running back served a two-game suspension last year after he was arrested for marijuana possession and driving under the influence.

The Steelers have a proven veteran backup in DeAngelo Williams and former Raven Fitzgerald Toussaint should also have a role in replacing Bell. However, Bell is still a significant loss, given his versatility and explosiveness.

The Steelers" first four regular-season games are at theWashington Redskins, home against the Cincinnati Bengals, at the Philadelphia Eagles and home against the Kansas City Chiefs.

1. Le"Veon Bell, Pittsburgh Steelers

#41: Le"Veon Bell (RB, Steelers) | Top 100 NFL Players of 2016

Bells teammate, Antonio Brown, just scored the top spot on our list of the NFLs top outside receivers, so the Steelers 12 punch at the skill positions should be envied by the league. The 48th overall pick in 2013, Bell left college as a bruising workhorse back with questions about his pass-catching prowess and has since become as potent a three-down back as there has been in recent memory. He caught 83 passes during the 2014 season (one more than Rob Gronkowski), en route to 2,200 total yards from scrimmage. He was on an 1,800-plus-yard pace again last season before a knee injury ended his year in Week 8. Bell claims his legs are even stronger now after rehab, but if he even can get back to his 14 form, he should again be as productive as they come.

Le"Veon Bell out for season with "badly torn" MCL

FanDuel Insider 11/1: Steelers RB Le"Veon Bell leaves game with knee injury

Pittsburgh Steelers running back LeVeon Bell is out for the rest of theseason with a badly torn MCL.

The loss thing that Pittsburgh Steelers fans wanted to hear was that an offensive weapon was out for the season just when Big Ben was returning to action. The absolute last thing fans or the team wanted to hear was for said player to be running back LeVeon Bell.

Thats the case though, as Bell left Sundays loss to the Bengals with what is now being called a badly torn MCL. Its an injury that according to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, might probably end up costing Bell the rest of his season.

Theres no definitive word on whether hes out for the season or not, but the Steelers arent making things sound optimistic when they describe the injury as badly torn when telling anyone about it. He might come back near the end of the year, but hes out for the foreseeable future which is something that drastically changes things for the Steelers as they try to stay afloat in the AFC Wild Card picture.
