White Sox reportedly in on Justin Upton, Yoenis Cespedes

Yoenis Cespedes 2013 Highlights

Updated JUL 31, 2015 at 1:34a ET

The Chicago White Sox finally lost Thursday night, halting their seven-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, the White Sox suddenly look like contenders.

Two weeks ago, pitcher Jeff Samardzija was as good as gone and the team looked every bit like sellers.

Now? Not so much.

According to a report from Jon Heyman, the White Sox could look to make a splash in the trade market before the non-waiver deadline:

Yoenis Cespedes and Justin Upton represent two of the more elite (and expensive) trade pieces this season.

Following Thursday"s games, the Sox sat at 50-52, 3.5 games back in the wild card with 60 games left to play.

Drake Talks About Nicki Minaj In Another Meek Mill Diss Track

Meek Mill - Wanna Know [Drake Diss]

When it comes to Drakes feelings about Meek Mill, one diss track is not enough.

The Toronto rapper responded to Meek Mills recent ghostwriting allegations this weekend with a diss track called Charged Up, which he debuted during his Beats 1 radio show on Apple Music. As far as diss tracks go, it was pretty tameDrake alluded to Mills accusations but mostly stuck to boasting about his own accomplishments.

Perhaps he was saving the rest of his feelings for part two. In another diss track posted to SoundCloud on Wednesday, Drake escalates the beef byuh oh!dragging Meek Mills girlfriend and Mills current touring partner Nicki Minaj into the drama: You love her then you gotta give the world to her/ Is that a world tour or your girls tour?/ I know that you gotta be a thug for her/ This aint what she meant when she told you to open up more. If her apparent jabs at Drake during Sundays Barclays Center show are indication, Minaj likely wont be pleased.

Ohio State"s Joey Bosa, Jalin Marshall suspended for season opener

Joey Bosa Super Sophomore 2014 Highlights

Ohio State has suspended four players, including defensive end JoeyBosaand H-backJalinMarshall, for the Buckeyes season opener against Virginia Tech, the school announced Thursday.

Senior receiver Corey Smith and junior H-back Dontre Wilson are the other two players. The school said they violated athletic department policy.

The violation was some combination of marijuana and academics, ESPNs Joe Schad reports.

Bosa, a rising junior, was a unanimous All-America selection last season after leading the Big Ten with 13.5 sacks and 21 tackles-for-loss. He has received numerous preseason honors this year and was named to several award watch lists. SI.coms Chris Burke named Bosa the top 2016 NFL draft prospect in the Big Ten.

Marshall was OSUs second-leading receiver last season as a true freshman, with 38 catches for 499 yards and six touchdowns.

Ohio State ranked No. 1 in Amway Preseason Coaches Poll

Smith, a fifth-year senior, joined Ohio State as a junior college transfer in 2013 and saw his first action with the Buckeyes last season. He caught 20 passes for 255 yards.

Wilson broke his ankle against Michigan State last November and had two surgeries to repair the injury. He had 21 receptions for 300 yards and three touchdowns as a sophomore in 2014.

Last season, the Hokies were the only team to defeat the eventual champion Buckeyes.

Update: Head coach Urban Meyer has commented on Bosa"s suspension.

Braxton Miller to move from quarterback to receiver

Ohio State"s Braxton Miller toldSI"s Pete Thamel Thursday night that he will move from quarterback to receiver for the upcoming season. Miller had been slated to compete against Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett for the Buckeyes" starting QB job.

Service restored to most Staten Island customers who lost power in heat

Five For Fighting - NYC Weather Report (Live)
De Blasio urgers NYers to stay inside because of heat

Service had been restored to most of the 19,000Staten Island customers who lost power in the heat by Tuesday morning, Con Edison reported. Only about 175 customers were still without electricity.

A power outagedue to equipment failure at about 2 p.m. on Monday was most likely caused by the extreme heat, and knocked out power to about 19,000 customers. The areas where customers were without powerincluded St. George, New Brighton, Tompkinsville, Stapleton, Mariners Harbor, and Travis, said Philip O"Brien, a spokesman for Con Edison.

A heat advisory was in effect until 6 p.m. Monday, with the high for the day expected to be well into the 90s. It"s the hottest day of the year so far.

A total of 36 NYPD traffic agents and supervisors were headed to Staten Island on Monday night to manage the evening commute. Police were also placing 24 light towers at "critical intersections and locations including Hylan Blvd. and Father Capodanno Blvd.," according to the mayor"s office.

Customers in the affected Staten Islandareas that didn"t lose power were experiencing a 5% reduction in the voltage, O"Brien said. Richmond Hill in Queens, and an area west of Times Square were experiencing a reduction of 8%.

It was not immediately clear when power would be restored to customers on Staten Island. Con Ed was transporting eight generators -- three are already there -- to support the affected areas.

The city"s Office of Emergency Management was extending the hours of operation for three cooling centers on Staten Island until 11PM: the Todt Hill Community Center, the Richmond Terrace Community Center, and the West Brighton Community Center. MTA buses were also being brought in to help provide air conditioning.

Why You Should Skip Labor Day and Vacation the Weekend After

Vacation - Official Theatrical Trailer [HD]

Labor Day can be a nightmare. Expectations are high since everyone is traveling with the hopes of having as much fun before the grind begins again. Factor in the crowds and high-prices and having a stay-cation might sound like the best choice for the holiday.

But, thanks to a longer summer season Labor Day lands nearly a week later than usual prices for domestic airfare are down 14 percent, at around $310 round-trip, according to Hopper, a trip planning engine that uses data to help travelers make smart vacation decisions. Americans have shown a higher tendency to travel when Labor Day weekend begins in August, according to historical data from AAA, which means that this year there might not be as many people slurping sno cones on the boardwalk.

This great beach destination that rhymes with Lamptons is much better after Labor Day. Photo credit: Alexandra Talty.

If you are set on flying, the busiest airports, and therefore the ones to avoid, are New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, according to Kayak. The online travel agency also estimates that the most popular Labor Day destinations are New York, Las Vegas and Chicago. The top international destinations are London, Paris and Cancun.

Last year, only 8 percent of Labor Day travel was by air, which means that the trains, buses and interstates will be clogged that weekend. One good tactic for your last summer hurrah is to travel the weekend before or after, avoiding the high-prices, crowds and traffic that come with the public holiday. Hopper estimates that if you travel the weekend before or after the holiday, you can save about 10 percent on airfare. Factor in the reduced crowds and lower-hotel rates, and a mid-September vacation is a pretty sweet deal.

After growing up in a summer-town, my recommendation would be to travel the weekend after. All along the Eastern seaboard September is a great month as the crowds die down, the temperatures are a bit more moderate and the ocean is still warm, thanks to the Gulf Stream.

Bachelorette Host Chris Harrison Hates UnREAL

The Bachelorette Kaitlyn - Men Tell All - Bloopers 19/19
Shade thrower, Chris Harrison. Photo: Santiago Felipe/Getty Images

Kaitlyn Bristowe, the Katniss Everdeen of televised real-life single ladies, gave away her final rose on The Bachelorette last night, and next week, Lifetime will air the season finale of UnREAL, a satire of The Bachelor franchise. And you know who hates UnREAL with the intensity of a thousand broken Bachelor hearts? The Bachelor host Chris Harrison, that"s who. "Really, the main difference that Ive seen is that people watch The Bachelor, Harrison told Variety. Its complete fiction. As much as they would love to jump on our coattails they were begging for us to talk about it and for people to write about it at the end of the day, no one is watching. I mean, absolutely nobody is watching that show. Why? It is terrible. It is really terrible. The shade!

Harrison went on: You only do that when you are part of the vernacular. Because if not, you cant make a joke. Its a sign of respect. The way that UnREAL took it, it wasnt a sign of respect. They were trying to take it another direction, but it doesnt work that way. You"ve hit it on the nose, guy. As avid viewers of UnREAL, we can heartily agree that the show is not about upholding the mythology of The Bachelor, but rather, breaking it down. It"s brutal, gimlet-eyed, and d**n good television. But we"re also starting to realize that Harrison is not a man who responds well to criticism of The Bachelor franchise, which he"s hosted since the first season in 2002.

This was on display during last night"s The Bachelorette: After the Final Rose, when Nick Viall sits down for a postmortem with Harrison. When Harrison asks him about his rivalry with Shawn Booth, he starts a sentence that sounds like he might have some ahem criticism of the show, but Harrison cuts him off before he can finish his thought. Nick tries to start again, before Harrison deflects with some primo hosting skills. You better watch out, Nick. One more strike and you"ll disappear forever.

How to Install Windows 10 in 2 Easy Steps

Windows 10 Demo - Official Release (Final Version)

Microsofts Windows 10 is out Wednesday. That means the clock is now ticking for current users of Windows 7 and up, who will have one year from today to take advantage of Microsofts free upgrade offer.

Ready to make the move to Windows 10? Heres a quick and dirty guide to installing it. As with all major upgrades, remember to back up your machine first. Its also a good idea to check if your computer can handle the new software.

1. By now, eligible users should have seen a pop up notification on their desktop inviting them to reserve your free upgrade of Windows 10 (non-eligible users will have to either buy a new Windows device or pony up $119 for the Home version). If you havent already reserved a copy, do so, because thats how Microsoft confirms your eligibility and starts prepping your device, quietly installing files on your computer in anticipation of the big download to come.

2. Soon youll see another pop-up notification to start the upgrade. It will look something like this:

Hit that notification, and the installation begins. Download times can vary from 20 minutes to more than an hour, depending on your device, which should give you more than enough time to read TIMEs Indispensable Guide to Windows 10 and hit the ground running. If you dont see that notification, you can download Windows 10 right here.

Blue Jays pull off stunning trade for Troy Tulowitzki as Orioles talk about ...

MLB 15 The Show Toronto Blue Jays Franchise Mode - Episode 3 - Tulowitzki Trade

Your move, Dan Duquette.

The Orioles executive vice president of baseball operationssaid again Monday that his team is in the playoff chase and that hes looking to improve the club.

Dont wait too long because one of the teams youre battling for a playoff spot, the Toronto Blue Jays, just got a whole lot better.

Already leading the majors in runs scored by a wide margin, the Blue Jays traded for Colorado Rockies All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki early this morning, according to wire reports. The nonwaiver trading deadline is Friday at 4 p.m.

The Blue Jays will also receive 42-year-old reliever LaTroy Hawkins. Toronto is sending shortstop Jose Reyes along with reliever Miguel Castro and two minor league pitchers to the Rockies.

The Orioleswon their third straight game Monday night, 2-1, on walk-off home run by catcher Matt Wieters.

The win kept the Orioles tied with the Blue Jays for second place in the American League East, seven games behind the New York Yankees and three games out in the wild-card race. But the Blue Jays, lacking starting pitching, must have decided they are just going to outscore everyone else as they fight for a playoff spot.

Whats interesting is that the Blue Jays already had a good shortstop in Reyes (batting .285 with four home runs, 16 stolen bases and a .708 OPS) who was leading off and setting the table for the Jays sluggers. Who bats leadoff now? Torontos best on-base percentage guy is Jose Bautista, whos hitting just .234 but getting walked a lot. Do you move Bautista to leadoff and put Tulowitzki (batting .300 in 87 games this season, with 12 home runs and an .831 OPS) in the third spot?

Who cares? At least the Blue Jays are trying to do something.

All Os manager Buck Showalter can do is move players up and down the lineup and hope someone off the bench catches fire. Hes starting Ryan Flaherty at first base for crying out loud.

At the very least the Os can pull the plug on Travis Snider, David Lough and Chris Parmelee. Two of those three should go, and until Steve Pearce comes back, bring Christian Walker up to play first base. Hes hot right now. Maybe it will carry over from Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles better hope Ubaldo Jimenez rediscovers what was working in the first half. If he gets lit up again, the Os are in deep trouble.

While its nice to have the best defense in baseball, you cant field home runs. And the Blue Jays, 7-5 against the Os this season, just pulled off a stunning trade to get the best player available and another power bat.

Your move, Dan Duquette.

LOX Member Styles P Reveals His Daughter Tai Committed Suicide

Styles P - Ghost Story (Freestyles) The Lox DJ Focuz & Stretch Money (Full Mixtape Album)

Buzz

Styles P (Photo : Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images)

Styles P, one-third of Yonkers rap group The Lox, opened up on Instagram yesterday (July 26) with a very heavy heart and informed his fans of the trying time he and his family are undergoing. According to the rapper, who spoke out on police brutality back at the top of the year, he and his wife have been quietly suffering after their 20-something-year-old daughter, Tai Hing (Tai Styles)committed suicide a month ago. Styles took to social media to express his anguish in a heart-wrenching message for fans and fellow artists, conveying just how important family ties are.

Like Us on Facebook

Styles penned a heart-felt message on Instagram about his daughter taking her own life over a month ago. Although Tai was not his biological child, we are able to gather that the two shared a bond unparalleled and that her existence meant the world to him.

In anguish-filled rhetoric Styles wrote,"I have lost my brother, father, aunt, grandmother in law and too many good friends/ brothers and now my daughter!!!!"

The former Bad Boy artist goes on to refelect on his career saying that while he"s had the privilege of seeing the world, having millions of fans worldwide and obtaining riches beyond his dreams, none of that measures up to the love and importance of family.

He warns fellow artists that while chasing your goals and aspirations are important, nothing is of more value than the loved ones who surround you. Styles maintains that on the road to riches one should never lose their focus, which is keeping "family first".

Styles P performed at the BET Awards last month during the Bad Boy reunion, and also made a cameo in Dame Dash and Kanye West"s Too Honorable trailer earlier this year.

Let our prayers and well wishes be with Styles and his family during these difficult times.

I rarely speak on my personal issues and i usually express my pain the through music but today I will share a little with you last month my wife and I lost a daughter and my son lost a sister . My baby girl took her life and there are no words to describe the day to day pain we have to endure and maintain through but in dealing with pain you find yourself dealing with the creator and asking questions and going through emotions most would not understand. So I"m taking this time out to express a few things to y"all because life is short and we are not promised tomorrow. I like to deal with simple math I know I am 180- 180+ but im trying my best to live on the positive side of things . I have truly tried to live up to the code of being a gentleman and gangster to fullest of my ability. I have been chasing the dollar bill since I was 12 years old I hustled I worked legal jobs and even manage to make my dream of making it as a rapper come true I have popped bottles before it was the thing to do , I have owned beamers, benzos , rovers, trucks etc etc etc I have lived in the ritz ,owned condos , houses traveled a lot of places etc etc etc but I can honestly tell you don"t none of that s**t add up or equal to love!! I have lost my brother , father , aunt , grandmother in law and too many good friends/ brothers and now my daughter!!!! But the only thing that can be done is to leave it in the creators hands . But I wouldn"t be me if I didn"t take this time out to say from the most humbled part of my heart and soul to say to yall that the dream most of us chase is not !!I repeat is not !!more valuable than the love you get from your family and friends it may seem like it is but it ain"t they print money and make material s**t everyday but once you used a love one that"s it the spirit is with you but you will miss the physical and Won"t be able to speak to them how you want to until you get home to the other side. So I just want to tell yall keep it family 1st and don"t get lost and lose your focus the fam is way more important than anything else .... We lost a daughter but gained an angel . Love is love ..ghost

Boston Red Sox trade rumors: Mike Napoli and Shane Victorino edition

David Ortiz Takes On Shane Victorino In "Know Your Teammates"

Shane Victorino

In case you missed it, the Boston Red Sox are no longer in contention.

Through 100 games, their record stands at 44-56. Theyre 13 games behind the first-place New York Yankees. Theyre unlikely to get to .500 this season. Even climbing out of the cellar of the AL East seems like an impossible feat.

As the trade deadline approaches, the Red Sox have obvious areas that need improvement (as is what happens when youre tied for the worst record in the American League). Their pitching woes, both in the starting rotation and in the bullpen, are so immense, there isnt a quick remedy to acquire by July 31. Their anemic offense, however, seems solvable.

The Red Sox wont be buyers this week. Pitching aside, the Red Sox do have the pieces to be a successful team. At the beginning of the season, the Red Sox seemed to have an overload of major league talent on their bloated payroll. Yet, with two months remaining, underperformances and injuries have led manager John Farrell to get creative with the lineup.

Unlike last season, the 2015 Red Sox lack the assets to have a July 31 fire sale. Their young players (Mookie Betts, Blake Swihart, etc.) have certainly attracted attention, but the Red Sox have rightly rejected these offers. The so-called Youth Movement will continue, now with the luxury of two months to develop young talent at the major league level without the pressure of making the post-season. With prospects settling into roles as contributors, the team needs to look into unloading underperforming veterans which is easier said than done.

On Sunday, there was a glimmer of hope: Rob Biertempfel reported that the Pittsburg Pirates were interested in Mike Napoli and Shane Victorino.

Napolis name was surprising, to say the least. Hes struggled severely this season, although a recent hot streak has finally brought his average above .200. Trade interest in Napoli is practically a blessing for the Red Sox.

Its unclear what the Pirates are offering in exchange. Just moving Napoli would be enough for the team, although a reliable bullpen arm would be nice.Dumping Napoli would allow the team to experiment with a permanent solution at first base. As with the Victorino trade, in which the Red Sox will pay the Los Angeles Angels $3.8 million of the $5 million Victorino is still owed this season, the team is looking to move older players to give young players a chance to prove themselves in the majors. With Victorino gone, Rusney Castillo, the $70 million Cuban outfielder, has the opportunity to do exactly this.

As evident at Victorinos emotional press conference last night, these decisions are never easy. Injuries have prevented Victorino from playing more than 63 games combined in 2014 and 2015. However, it cant be forgotten how instrumental he was in 2013. Without Victorino, the championship run would look radically different. The same can be said of Napoli.

Its never easy to part with beloved players who will live on forever in a teams championship lore. While 2015 is over, the Red Sox need to put sentimentalityasideand make moves by July 31 that will allow them to prepare for the future.

History Makers: George Hamilton IV

George Hamilton on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight: INTERVIEW

Born: July 19, 1937

Died: Sept 17, 2014

Billboard Magazine once christened Winston-Salems own George Hamilton IV as the International Ambassador of Country Musicand the title couldnt have been more fitting. With his engaging personality and tender vocal style, Hamilton helped spread American country music across the globe.

He was the first American artist to record songs by Canadians Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell. In the 1960s he hosted country music TV shows in Canada, England, and Ireland. He toured Australia, Japan, and across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. The British Country Music Association named him honorary life president, and The Guardian (a British daily newspaper) postulated that The growth of country music in Britain was due in no small way to the efforts of George Hamilton IV. Finally, in 1974 he became the first American country artist to perform behind Europes Iron Curtain.

Hamiltons ascent in country music can be traced back to his grandfathers radio in Winston-Salem. He was born and raised in the Twin City, where his parents, George III and Mary Lillian, raised him in a loving, deeply devout Moravian home. His grandfather, George II, a railroad man, turned him on to country music, listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio.

Interestingly, Hamilton began his career as a pop/rock singer. In 1956, the clean-cut 19-year-old entered a recording studio on the campus of UNC Chapel Hill and recorded the single, A Rose and a Baby Ruth. The song would reach No. 6 on Billboards rock chart and sell over a million copies. Two years later he made a surprising move by abandoning rock to record country music, eventually hitting No. 1 on the country charts with Abilene, his best-known song.

In a career that lasted 58 years, Hamilton released 40 albums with 11 top-10 songs. He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1960, was inducted into the N.C. Music Hall of Fame in 2010, and received multiple Grammy nominations. He also helped persuade the Country Music Association in Nashville to develop Fan Fare, now called the CMA Music Festival.

In June 1958 he married his high school sweetheart, Adelaide Tinky Peyton. A lifelong student of history and people, he was often found giving impromptu tours to fans at the Grand Ole Opry. USA Today wrote of him, In a business populated by brash and outlandish stars, Hamilton traded on subtlety, gentility, and decency.

Wrestler Hulk Hogan fired over race outburst caught on tape | Media | The Guardian

Hulk Hogan FIRED by WWE RACIST N-Word Comments

Muscled up, mustachioed and prawn-red, the wrestling hero Hollywood Hulk Hogan is now at the centre of two controversies that in combination deliver a near-perfect, four-way smackdown of American obsessions with race, s*x, money and violence.

On Friday, Hogan ring name for Terry Gene Bollea was abruptly fired from World Wrestling Entertainment after tapes recorded in 2007 revealed him ranting about his daughter sleeping with a black man and liberally using the N word to embellish his point of view.

Odious, certainly, but Hogans diatribe was lifted from court-sealed tapes at the centre of a libel case brought against the gossip website Gawker, itself at the centre of a storm over a series of gay outings that have forced its gay, married proprietor to disown his own publications editorial practices.

The newly unemployed Hogan, who has since described the outburst in which he said I am a racist, to a point, f**king n****rs as offensive and unacceptable, now has further problems.

The recording is from tapes at the centre of a $100m libel case Hogan brought against Gawker after the site posted film of Hogan in sexual congress with the wife of his best friend, DJ Todd Allen Clem, who legally changed his name to Bubba the Love Sponge.

While Love Sponge did not seem to be fazed by this arrangement he can be heard saying that Hulk and wife Heather can do their thing and he will be in his office it was uncomfortable for Hogan.

Hogan sued Love Sponge for invading his privacy, settled, and then sued Gawker which has long hinted there was something more to the tape than s*x for posting part of it online.

The case is due to be heard near Hogans hometown in Florida in October. Legal analysts say the audio tape could bolster Gawkers public interest defence that it had a right to publish the clip to prove its existence, and because Hogans behaviour is newsworthy.

While Gawker has denied it was behind the leak of Hogans racist rant, and Hogans lawyer has vowed to bury Gawker if it that is found to be the case, Gawker Media proprietor Nick Denton, a former Financial Times journalist, is clearly hoping to deflect attention from the companys current problem.

Ten days ago, the site published a story about a married publishing executive involved with a gay prostitute. The story was soon removed after readers and advertisers objected. Denton issued a lengthy mea culpa, disowning this practice of outing, which has previously been directed at CNN news host Anderson Cooper and NFL star Michael Sam.

Friends say that as a member of New Yorks so-called gay mafia, Denton had long believed that gay men in positions of power have an obligation to be public about their sexuality. They say Denton, who is now out of the closet and happily married to a man, has changed his views.

Responding to inquiries from the Observer about Gawkers editorial policies, Denton responded crisply: Superseded by Hogan.Others within the fish-bowl of New Yorks online media environment point out that whatever Gawkers policy over celebrity and sexuality, online news sites are facing a crisis as surplus of online content is forcing down CPM (cost per mille, or thousand impressions) value to media advertisers.

After two senior editors resigned following removal of the outing story, Denton told employees that this or similar controversies can cost the company up to $20m in annual revenue.

Media observers point out that internet sites, especially those trading in celebrity and gossip, are faced with a dilemma: to win ad revenue from traditional media and achieve growth, they will have to spend to install editorial-standards safeguards to protect skittish advertisers from being drawn into controversies.

Gawker, they point out, has not been able to grow to the billion-hit size of Buzzfeed, may not be large enough to sustain such additional costs and probably could not afford a $100 million payout to Hollywood Hulk Hogan.

UFC News: Miesha Tate Would Fight Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino At A Catchweight

Fight Night Chicago: Miesha Tate - The Exchange with Megan Olivi

Theres really only one dream match in womens MMA, and thats Ronda Rousey vs. Cristiane Cyborg Justino. However, with Rousey unwilling to move up to Cyborgs weight class, and with Cyborg unable to move down to Rouseys, the fight between the two may never happen. But, we could end up getting the next best thing, as Miesha Tate says that shed be willing to fight Cyborg at a catchweight of 140 pounds.

Tate said during a recent Q&A that, while a fight with Cyborg isnt in her immediate plans, she would be open to fighting the dominant Invicta featherweight.

It all started at a fan Q&A in Manila when a fan asked me if I would fight Cyborg at 140 because Ronda wasnt willing to. I said, Of course I would. It has to make sense, but I would do it. Then the media took it and ran saying I challenged Cyborg, and Cris took it very positively. She knows what I meant. Her and I are friends. Its nothing personal, but its the kind of attitude a fighter should have because its a challenge and I wouldnt run away from it.

I think her and I are on the same page that if that opportunity presented itself at 140, we would both accept the fight. As far as the logistics of it, I have no idea how that would work with the UFC. Obviously Im fighting with the UFC, so Im not going to leave to go over to Invicta and do a catchweight. It would have to happen inside the UFC octagon. They would have to agree to put on a catchweight of 140, which I dont even know if they really do that anymore or if they would do that.

As for right now, Miesha Tate is focused her fight thats taking place on Saturday night against Jessica Eye. Some are saying that if Tate defeats Eye, she could get the next shot at the UFC Womens Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, which she badly wants.

If Rousey and Tate fight again, it would be the third time, with Rousey winning each of the previous two encounters by submission via armbar, and while most fans wouldnt exactly be dying to see the two of them collide for a third time, Tate is the only one of Rouseys opponents who has made it out of the first round with her. Furthermore, if Tate wins this weekend and if Rousey destroys Bethe Correia on August 1, theres really no one else out there for Rousey to fight, and the UFC isnt just going to have Rousey sit on the sidelines until there is.

Colin Cowherd no longer with ESPN after offensive remarks

Jim Harbaugh Interview Gets so Painfully Awkward Colin Cowherd Abruptly Ends It Surprise

Colin Cowherd is departing ESPN after a 12-year run.(Photo: Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images, Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images)

Radio host Colin Cowherd has been pulled from the airby ESPN for hisoffensive remarks on Dominican baseball players in the big leagues.

"Colin Cowherds comments over the past two days do not reflect the values of ESPN or our employees," read an ESPN statement. "Colin will no longer appear on ESPN."

ESPN had previously announced that Cowherd"s 12-year run at the network was about to expire by mutual accord -- he"s widely expected to join the Fox network -- but his show was still supposed to run through next Friday.

On Friday"s show, Cowherdattempted to clarify theremarks that started the firestorm, but only made matters worse.

"I did not intend to offend anyone with my comments," Cowherd said in a statement."I realize my choice of words was poor and not reflective of who I am. I am sorry."

On Thursday, Cowherd was expressing his belief that general managers are capable of switching roles and taking on managerial duties, as the Miami Marlins Dan Jennings has done this season, when he said, You dont think a general manager can manage? Like its impossible? The game is too complex? Ive never bought into that, Baseballs just too complex. Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic.

Cowherd went on to add that the Dominican Republic is not known for its world-class education and that many of its players come from underprivileged backgrounds.

Major League Baseball and the players association independently denounced the remarks, even after Cowherd tried to remedy the situation.

Cowherds explanation that his comments were taken out of context did not satisfy officials from either organization, with baseball issuing a statement demanding an apology.

Major League Baseball condemns the remarks made by Colin Cowherd, which were inappropriate, offensive and completely inconsistent with the values of our game, the statement said.Mr. Cowherd owes our players of Dominican origin, and Dominican people generally, an apology.

On Friday, Cowherd complained that the second part of what he described as a 57-second rant was not published in the numerous online items and tweets that decried his comments, and he mentioned four reports that detailed the educational deficiencies in the Dominican Republic.

Cowherd called his wording clunky but stopped well short of an apology. He also replayed the rant to underscore his point.

I get, when published out of context, a single quote and you stop the tape, I understand it, he said. I could have made the point without using one country, and theres all sorts of smart people from the Dominican Republic. I could have said a third of baseballs talent is now being furnished from countries with economic hardships, therefore educational hurdles.

For the record, I used the Dominican Republic because they furnish baseball with so many great players. But they do rank 122nd out of 144 countries in primary education according to the World Economic Forum Global Competitive Report. Nobody says everybodys anything. And I understand when you mention a specific country, they get offended. I get it. I do. And for that, I feel bad. I do.

That didnt placate the players union, several of whose members were incensed over Cowherds remarks. Toronto Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista was among the first to respond, tweeting to Cowherdthat he would like to get an explanation before i rip you a new one.

Bautista, who has a foundation that aims to improve access to higher education for young athletes, released a statement late Friday afternoon before the Blue Jays" game against the Mariners in Seattle.

"In regards to Colins comments, while I do appreciate his attempt to clarify his previous remarks, I do not believe it was an acceptable one,"" the statement said. "I also want to take this opportunity to share how I feel. Not only am I proud to be from the Dominican Republic, but it is an honor to be representing the DR in MajorLeague Baseball.

"Unfortunately there are hardships that do existfor people of every background, and in some circumstances, yes there are "educational hurdles. However, there is a difference between that and ignorance or stupidity, which I believe was implied.""

Earlier in the day,MLBPA executive director Tony Clark had issued a statementsaying, As a veteran of fifteen MLB seasons, I can assure you that our sport is infinitely more complex than some in the media would have you believe. To suggest otherwise is ignorant, and to make an ignorant point by denigrating the intelligence of our Dominican members was not clunky -- it was offensive.

These recent comments are particularly disappointing when viewed against the backdrop of the important work being done to celebrate and improve the cultural diversity of our game. Baseball"s partners and stakeholders should help such efforts, not undermine them."

Both ESPN and Fox Cowherds expected new employer after a recent announcement that he would end his 12-year tenure at ESPN are rights-holders to MLB games.

On Thursday, a person with close ties to the union suggested its relationship with the networks could be damaged if they did not condemn Cowherds comments. The person requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the topic.

The next day, ESPN took a stepto mend fences by taking Cowherd off the air a week ahead of schedule. It"s not clear what impact his comments may have on his future with Fox.

Seattle moms rally in response to Lafayette shooting - King 5

John Russell Houser Lafayette Theater Shooting Hoax Exposed (Redsilverj)

Moms who support gun control rallied outside theaters nationwide Friday in response to the shooting in Louisiana.

In Seattle, a small group of moms gathered outside the Regal Cinemas downtown.

Those moms were passing out small flyers asking people to call their lawmakers in favor of gun control.

"It"s almost like the wind has been knocked out of you," said Cathy Munsen, a mom with the group Moms Demand Action. "I just think it could have been any of us in that theater."

Munsen gave up her Friday to talk with potential voters passing the theater downtown.

Specifically, she was asking voters to ask Congress to close a provision in the federal background check law that allows gun sales to proceed after three business days even if a background check is incomplete.

Munsen admitted it would not have prevented the shooting in Lafayette but she said it may have prevented the recent shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.

"In this country we have no higher rate of mental illness. We have no higher rate of criminals. What we have is a very easy access to guns," argued Munsen.

Alan Gottlieb founded the Second Amendment Foundation in Bellevue.

Gottlieb shares in Munsen"s outrage over the violence but as a supporter of gun rights, he disagrees with her solution.

"No one wants these things to happen but the other side feels like the answer is to take people"s rights and freedoms away," Gottlieb said. "In a free society, that is not the way to do it. It"s obvious more gun control isn"t going to solve this problem. It might stop a gun from getting in but it may not stop something else."

As the shooting prompts renewed focus on the gun debate, other Seattleites responded to the shooting with a much more subtle message.

A drummer who goes by Josh "Beatstock" Orion played just a block from the Regal Cinemas. He said he hoped his music brought people joy following the tragedy.

"I like to consider playing downtown kind of like missionary work," Beatstock Orion said. "Every time I hear bad news it makes me want to grab my drum. If love hides under a bed, hate wins. You have got to get up every day and dust yourself off and keep going."

Powerful earthquake possible in San Francisco"s Hayward Fault Zone | WTVR.com

Golden Gate Bridge

Powerful earthquake possible in San Franciscos Hayward FaultZone

SAN FRANCISCO Tuesdays magnitude-4.0 earthquake in the San Francisco Bay Area caused relatively little damage, but it gave a glimpse of the potential geological threats the region could face.

Scientists believe theres strong evidence to suggest that a major quake will strike the Bay Area, the only question is when.

Geophysicist Tom Brocher with the U.S. Geological Survey said scientists are confident that a major earthquake will happen on the Hayward Fault Zone, a 74-mile-long fault line that runs along the the east side of the San Francisco Bay Area, near cities such as Oakland and Fremont. The only question is when.

The zone is known for destructive earthquakes. We know about it very well because it produced a big earthquake in 1868, Brocher said in an interview with CNN.

The quake Brocher is referring to was a magnitude-6.8 earthquake. Several people died in that event, which caused damage of around $350,000 about $5 to $10 million in todays money.

Anything larger than a magnitude-6 earthquake can be very dangerous if it is near a city, Brocher said.

The reason why geologists are concerned right now about earthquake safety is because they have been studying the 1868 earthquake and the 11 quakes that happened before it on the Hayward Fault and noticed that the earthquakes seemed to happen in loose patterns.

The average is about 140 years and some (earthquakes) are only 90 years apart. Others are 160 years apart, he said.

It has been 147 years since the 1868 earthquake struck San Francisco.

The most recent scientific study indicates that for the entire San Francisco Bay Area there is about a 70% chance of a magnitude 6.7 or greater in the next 30 years occurring on one of the several earthquake faults that run through the area, Brocher said.

In 1989, a magnitude-6.9 quake hit the Bay Area during baseballs World Series. The Loma Prieta earthquake caused 63 deaths, 3,757 injuries and an estimated $6 billion in property damage, according to the Geological Survey.

Since then, more than $30 billion has been invested by various businesses and companies to strengthen the citys infrastructure.

Brocher said most people in the Bay Area will be fine after a quake its the potential lack of services such as water, gas and electricity that might cause problems.

But earthquakes do not happen like clockwork, according to Brocher. The most important thing people can do is to prepare by stocking up on water and emergency supplies.

It is a challenge for geologists to convey the seriousness of earthquakes, because large scale quakes are relatively uncommon and quakes are far more difficult to predict than other natural disasters such as hurricanes, Brocher said.

Earthquakes are rare enough that most people only experience one and they dont know what it really is like, Brocher said.

In April, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit Nepal claiming more than 8,000 lives. The powerful quake ravished the country, separating families, decimating historical landmarks and leaving tens of thousands of people with injuries.

Earthquakes also struck Peru, California, Chile and Iceland in 2014.

Lafayette Shooting Suspect Had Mental Illness History, Officials Say - The New ...

BREAKING: "Shooting Movie Theater Lafayette Louisiana 3 Dead

LAFAYETTE, La. The picture that emerged Friday of the gunman who killed two women and wounded nine other people in a theater here was one filled with instability and rage, from a history of mental illness, to vandalizing and booby-trapping a house, to venting his fury at womens rights, minorities and liberals.

The gunman, John Russell Houser, 59, of Phenix City, Ala., who had a history of mental illness, took his own life in the theater here Thursday night, after gunning down the others during a screening of the comedy Trainwreck, the police said.

If you gave me 40 names and 40 pictures of people who might have done that, I wouldnt have hesitated to point him out, said Calvin Floyd, the former host of a television talk show in Columbus, Ga., that frequently featured Mr. Houser as a guest in the 1990s.

I could just sense the anger was there, Mr. Floyd said in an interview. Maybe I should have been afraid of him. He had a very hostile personality at times.

Mr. Houser believed that women should not work outside their homes, and had a lot of hostility toward abortion clinics, Mr. Floyd said. He was the sort of person who believed that all the trouble started when they took Bibles out of school and stopped prayer.

Photo An undated photograph of John R. Houser that was provided by the Lafayette Police Department.

On Twitter, on antigovernment discussion boards, and on other forums online, a person using the names Rusty Houser and John Russell Houser praised the Westboro Baptist Church, which has drawn ire for demonstrating against gays at military funerals; Timothy J. McVeigh, who bombed a government building in Oklahoma City in 1995, killing 168, and even Adolf Hitler. The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks racist and antigovernment groups, said the posts were all from Mr. Houser.

America is so sick that I now believe it to be the enemy of the world, he wrote on one discussion forum. I know next to nothing about Iran, but the little I do know tells me they are far higher morally than this financially failing filth farm.

Mr. Houser was treated in the Phenix City area for an unspecified mental illness in 2008 and 2009, according to Heath D. Taylor, the sheriff of Russell County, Ala. Court records show that he filed for bankruptcy protection in 2002, and the superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, Col. Michael D. Edmonson, said his finances had been poor; he recently received money from his mother.

Mr. Houser lived most of his life in Columbus, Ga., just across the Chattahoochee River from Phenix City, and his LinkedIn profile described him as an investment manager with a law degree, an accounting credential and experience running restaurants. He ran for local office in Columbus, Mr. Floyd said, but he was spotted removing his opponents signs, an affair that drove him from the race.

He and his family moved into a house in Phenix City, in 2005, and that year, his wife made a domestic violence complaint against him, but it did not lead to an arrest, Sheriff Taylor said. The next year, Mr. Houser applied for a permit to carry a concealed pistol, but the application was denied by the sheriffs office; Alabama, however, does not require a permit or license to buy or own a handgun.

The reason for the denial was we had the report of the domestic violence against him, and in 89 or "90, he was arrested for an arson case in Columbus, Ga., which did not result in conviction, Sheriff Taylor said.

Jim Craft, the chief of the police department in Lafayette, La., on Friday identified and described the gunman who killed two people, and then himself, in a movie theater on Thursday night.

By WBRZ via Associated Press on Publish Date July 24, 2015. Photo by Paul Kieu/The Daily Advertiser, via Associated Press. Watch in Times Video

In 2008, Mr. Housers family members sought a temporary protective order in court in Carroll County, Ga., and asked that he be committed involuntarily to a mental hospital, and his wife grew fearful enough that she removed weapons from their home, court records show. He was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Columbus.

In court papers, they said he had perpetrated various acts of family violence, and cited a substantial likelihood of future family violence. They described him as having bipolar disorder, for which he had been prescribed medication, which he sometimes failed to take.

His condition apparently deteriorated in April 2008, with his daughters wedding approaching, when, the family told the court, he expressed vehement opposition to the planned nuptials, exhibited extreme erratic behavior, and made ominous as well as disturbing statements that the wedding would not happen.

That month, the police in Carrollton, Ga., investigated a report of a mentally disturbed person after he arrived unannounced at his daughters office, and later threatened another family member. It was the following day that family members sought to have him committed.

In March 2015, Mr. Housers wife, Kellie Houser, filed for divorce in Georgia after 31 years of marriage, and listed his location as unknown.

Mr. Houser lost his house to foreclosure, and an eviction order was served on him in March 2014, the sheriff said. A criminal complaint was later filed accusing Mr. Houser of vandalizing the house, including pouring cement into the plumbing, and tampering with gas lines in a way that could have started fires.

Photo Law enforcement and other emergency personnel responded to the scene of the shooting. Credit Brad Kemp/The Advocate, via Associated Press

The buyer of the house, Norman Bone, and his daughter, Beth, and her boyfriend, Dan Ramsel, described what Mr. Houser had done as booby-trapping the house, and said his rampage required more than a year of repairs. They said he destroyed many of its fixtures, dumped hundreds of fish into the swimming pool, and left human feces and cement throughout the house, where he once flew the Confederate battle flag.

Mr. Ramsel said that Mr. Houser, known as Rusty, had cultivated a reputation as somewhat of an anarchist.

The family members apparently had not been in contact with him recently, Chief Craft said, Mr. Housers only known connection to Lafayette was a long-dead uncle who once lived here.

Law enforcement officials here said they were looking into where and when Mr. Houser acquired the gun he used in the assault, and why he was in Lafayette, a 500-mile drive from Phenix City. A purchase at a store requires a federal background check, and serious mental illness can be grounds for denial, but the check system is imperfect, and does not cover person-to-person sales.

Because of the brand of weapon it is, its more difficult to trace that type of weapon than it is other types, said Chief Jim Craft of the Lafayette Police Department, but he would not elaborate.

The police said Mr. Houser had been in Lafayette since early July and had been staying in a motel. They appealed to the public for help in learning more about him.

The gunman parked a blue 1995 Lincoln Continental, with illegally switched license plates, near an exit door to the Grand Theater, and in his motel room, we found wigs and glasses and disguises, basically, Chief Craft said at a Friday morning news conference just outside the crime scene.

It is apparent that he was intent on shooting and then escaping, Chief Craft said. What happened is that the quick law enforcement response forced him back into the theater, at which time he shot himself.

Colonel Edmonson, of the State Police, said, To put a motive to it is just something that we simply cant do right now. He said there was no known connection between the gunman and any of the victims.

Mr. Houser bought one of 25 tickets sold for a showing of the film and sat for several minutes in the theater, the authorities said. Shortly before 7:30 p.m., he began shooting, firing at least 13 rounds from a .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun.

He was by himself, he sat by himself, and the first two people he shot were right in front of him, Chief Craft said.

He identified the two dead women as Mayci Breaux, 21, and Jillian Johnson, 33. The wounded ranged in age from their teens to their 60s, and one was listed Friday in critical condition. Two were treated and released.

Witnesses said Mr. Houser stood at the back of the auditorium, which had steeply pitched, stadium-style seating, and fired down at others. Mr. Houser reloaded at least once as he tried to flee the theater, Chief Craft said, and returned when he saw the police.

Mexico Rights Group: Errors, Omissions in Case of 43 Missing - ABC News

Panama vs Mexico (1-2) | Turns to the FIGHT | Gold Cup 2015

Mexico"s National Human Rights Commission is questioning the government"s investigation into what happened to 43 missing college students who investigators say were killed and incinerated last September.

The commission on Thursday issued a list of 32 omissions in the investigation and recommendations that it said are vital to solving the case, even though the Attorney General"s Office gave its comprehensive official version of what happened in January.

Its report lists key people and evidence, including a cellphone message from one student after he would have been kidnapped, that were never pursued in the Sept. 26 attacks in the southern city of Iguala.

"All of the things listed are not in the case file, and so in our view have not been done. And they are things very important to the case," commission President Luis Raul Gonzalez Perez said.

The Attorney General"s Office said only that it had received the report and did not comment on its criticisms. The agency reiterated that it is committed to an exhaustive and transparent investigation.

The teachers college students from the state of Guerrero disappeared while commandeering transit buses for a protest in Mexico City. The Attorney General"s Office says the students were arrested by local police and handed over to a drug cartel, which killed and incinerated them at a garbage dump. Their remains were allegedly put in garbage bags and dumped in a nearby river.

But the commission"s report says the federal investigation had not developed profiles of each of the missing students that would include basic details such as blood type, fingerprints and distinguishing characteristics such as scars or tattoos, which it termed a "basic tool" of any search.

Many of the report"s observations concern the collection and analysis of evidence from the garbage dump in Cocula and the San Juan river where allegedly bags of their remains were dumped. That part of the government"s version has drawn the most criticism from families and other observers.

For example, the report lists a number of people known only by nickname who were allegedly involved at the dump, but who have not been arrested. It calls for the navy divers who recovered remains in the river to be interviewed. It recommends comparing the soil recovered in the bags of remains with soil from the dump to see if it matches. It says bullet casings recovered from the dump site should undergo ballistic testing to see if they match any recovered weapons. It suggests investigators have never established if the remains found at the river are human or animal.

The report recommends investigators identify and interview people who lived near where the attacks took place in Iguala a seemingly basic step in an investigation especially those who gave refuge to some students. It says authorities never did forensic tests on clothing found near the buses where the attacks occurred.

The report also says the students" families never received proper medical and psychological support and still live amid the same crime and insecurity that led to the disappearances, which the attorney general said involved a drug cartel working with local police.

Robin Williams" Daughter Zelda Taking a Break From Social Media Ahead of ...

Robin Williams - Parkinson interview [2002]

Robin Williams, left, and his daughter, Zelda at the premiere of "Happy Feet Two" on Nov. 13, 2011 in Los Angeles.

Robin Williams" daughter Zelda Williams is going on hiatus from social media as the first anniversary of her father"s death draws near.

The actress, 25, posted a picture of clouds illuminated by sunshine Monday, a day ahead of what would have been the beloved comedian"s 64th birthday.

"I will be taking a break from social media in the coming weeks," she captioned the pic. "It"s a time better served away from the opinions or sentiments of others, and I appreciate your understanding."

In her absence she asks those wishing to leave messages about her father to "please attempt to be respectful and kind to one another in the process, both because I will not be here to delete or mediate trolling, and because kindness is in short supply these days anyhow."

On Twitter Tuesday she thanked users for their kind thoughts before adding, "Taking a break for a bit. Don"t burn the place down while I"m gone!"

Williams also broke from social media briefly in the wake of her father"s suicide on August 11 after accusing Instagram users of "mining our accounts for photos of dad," and calling out Twitter users for reportedly sending her upsetting images.

Six months after his passing, Williams told NBC"s Kate Snow thatlife without her father is hard but she continues to try and move forward. "Its going to take a lot of work to allow myself to have the sort of fun, happy life that I had, but that"s important. Anybody who has ever lost anyone works very hard to continue that memory in a positive way."

Of his death she said she doesn"t dwell on what led the"Mork & Mindy" star to commit suicide. "I dont think theres a point. Its not important to ask."

In early Junea San Francisco superior court judge set a July 29 deadline for Williams widow Susan and his children from previous marriages Zachary, Zelda and Cody, to reach an agreement on how the late actors possessions will be divided and howmuch money Susan will receive to keep up the Tiburon, Calif. home the couple shared.

Should The Ashley Madison Hack Have Houstonians Worried? | Houston Press

Ashley Madison Was Hacked

Wednesday, July 22, 2015 | 2 hours ago

If you live in one of Houston"s nicer neighborhoods and you"ve noticed that one member of that seemingly happily-married couple next door has been acting a little nervous lately, there"s a survey that might offer an explanation why (though we really wouldn"t recommend confronting said neighbor or their spouse especially the spouse with the following survey information).

According to a 2015 national survey of adultery in America conducted by recently-hacked adulterers-only dating website AshleyMadison.com, Houston is the eighth most adulterous city in the country, with 187,000 Houstonians signed up for Ashley Madison accounts. And a more specific Ashley Madison survey says that those members are distributed somewhat evenly throughout Houston"s ritziest neighborhoods, with Sugar Land and West University rounding out the top two. That shouldn"t really come as a surprise.

Now, finishing eighth here isn"t too outrageous, considering Houston is the fourth largest city in the country. But despite the low-when-placed-in-proper-context numbers, there are almost definitely at least 187,000 faithful spouses who would still vehemently argue that Houston has about 187,000 too many adulterers.

Joe Girardi says "no platoon," but Chris Young playing against lefties ...

Chris Young - Tomorrow

NEW YORK -- It would be managerial malpractice not to start Chris Young against every lefty the rest of the way. Young"s OPS vs. lefties is 1.101, which is a number Barry Bonds would approach when he was going his best. Meanwhile, Carlos Beltran"s OPS against lefties is .710.

So it really should not surprise anyone that, just as it has been most of the season, Young will be in there when a lefty is on the mound.

"I would think against every lefty we face he will be in there," Girardi said.

"I would think against every lefty we face he will be in there," Joe Girardi said of Chris Young.Thomas B. Shea/USA TODAY Sports

Girardi, who always likes to misdirect when he can, painted it less as a decision about Beltran and more about the fact the Young will fill-in for all of the Yankees outfielders.

"I"m not saying it is going to be a platoon," Girardi said of right field.

The discussion of Young"s playing time has been muted for much of the year because of injuries to Beltran and Jacoby Ellsbury.

Giardi went out of his way to say that when Young plays that it won"t only be Beltran that will sit.

"We are going to see a number of lefties on this next long stretch," Girardi said. "I"ll be able to give Jake a day off. I"ll be able to give Gardy [Brett Gardner] a day off. I just chose to do it with Carlos today."

The thing is, though, if the Yankees make the playoffs and a lefty starts for the opponent, Young would likely replace Beltran on that night. So, going forward, it stands to reason -- if everyone stays healthy -- Young will probably be in right the most of any of the outfield positions.

Beltran said that, while Girardi hasn"t really explained the situation to him, he understands how well Young has hit.

"I just have to deal with it," Beltran said.

Brett "White Shoes" Gardner retires: MLB and the Yankees made it clear that he should not wear his white cleats he sported Sunday again.

"I won"t be wearing them again," Gardner said.

Gardner said the only reason he did was because of Sunday starter CC Sabathia. After the All-Star break, Sabathia saw the shoes in Gardner"s locker and liked them. On Sunday, 45 minutes before Sabathia"s start, Sabathia walked by Gardner"s locker and said, "If you don"t have those white shoes on you can keep your little [behind] inside."

Gardner wore them. He wasn"t fined by the league, but if he had been fined Sabathia told Gardner he would have paid it. Gardner said he thought he would be docked some money (the fine is around $1,000 or so) if he wore the white shoes again. He says he will not.

Bo Derek Really Doesn"t Want to Talk About Cornrows

Tarzan The Ape Man Trailer 1981 Bo Derek Miles O"Keeffe
Photo: Alan Band/Keystone/Getty Images

When Kylie Jenners cornrows inspired this week"s conversation about cultural appropriation, several people invoked the name Bo Derek the original white woman in cornrows as reference, or maybe justification. (Most publicly, Laverne c*x, who discussed the feud onAndy Cohens Watch What Happens Live.)

Since she ran down that beach, hair braided, in the 1979 movie 10, Bo Derek probably gets more credit for popularizing cornrows than anyone. A 1980 People article cited Derek as the catalyst for making cornrows a cross-cultural craze and a beauty store bonanza." As a result, the hairstyle"s origins in African-American culture have sometimes been overlooked as inthis Los Angeles Times debacle from earlier this year. So when New York caught up with the actress at the premiere of FXs s*x&Drugs&Rock&Roll,we asked what she thought of the hairstyle, cultural appropriation, and whether shed ever considered her role in it all.

Her answers were minimal.

She remarked that, like Andy Cohen, she found the Jenner controversy stupid, and noted that race never came up around discussions of her 10 cornrows. Its a hairdo! Thats all it is, she exclaimed.

When asked about the hairdo"s origins (in the same People piece a black woman named Ann Collins gets credit as 10s official braider), Derek responded that she knew where it came from, but that had nothing to do with doing it.

Her final comment: No, seriously, of all the important racial and cultural issues we have right now, people are going to focus on a hairstyle? No, no. Ill save my efforts toward important racial and cultural issues.

Bo Derek hates aging but I love it

Trailer - Bo Dereks EKSTASE (Bolero)

Have you read lately that Bo Derek hates aging? I guess it"s big news! You can read about her feelings here or here. I am shocked that anyone would say this especially someone with the looks that she once had. I just wonder why Bo Derek hates aging but I love it

Let"s take a look at her when she was in the movie Ten. She is one fine looking woman. Even adjusting for make up, lighting and filters, she won the genetics lottery.

As a result of her stunning good looks she got the part in the movie Ten. Based just on her looks, I don"t think that anyone would argue that she was hired for her acting abilities. (In fact she has been nominated for two Raspberry awards for worst acting in a film.)

Now let"s take a look at her today. She is 3 years younger than me or as she puts it, 58 and a half. Still a good looking woman.

Not a s*x symbol any more, but a nice looking woman. But she hates it. She misses her skin. She thinks it isn"t easy.

When she was 16, she dropped out of high school and ran away to Europe with John Derek, a man 30 years her senior. They returned and married when she was of a legal age. You can read more about her life here.

She lives on a ranch with her boyfriend John Corbett and their horses. You can even tour it here. And she is in the upcoming Sharknado 3.

I personally don"t really care about her but boy, it bothers me when a person who has had a pretty charmed life complains. Her skin isn"t what it once was? Boo hoo!

I think aging is hard on people who don"t value their minds as much as their looks and bodies. Bo has made the startling discovery that beauty fades. Ya think?

I suggest she take some classes, finish high school even. Work for more charities, help other people who have had really rough lives.

And quilt! Yep, I think the quilters I know are pretty positive people because they have a wonderful activity which keeps their mind and hands busy. They think about others and help them out.

I am so very glad I have children and grandchildren to keep my mind off my aging body. I am very glad I had a satisfying career helping others although I readily admit, being a s*x symbol was never in the cards for me.

I love aging because I can slow down and take my time. I can read, sew, talk and heck, nap. I can value all I have in life.

And quite frankly I love being alive. Still. Not all of my family or friends were able to see their 60"s.

Bo should be darn grateful for what she has, that she is still alive and in good health. She has a companion and a great place to live. Fine, she"s not a quilter but into each life some rain must fall.

Maybe that rain will help her with her skin.

Sew happy!

British Open: One tearful winner, another golfer a shot short of history, and an amateur"s wild ride

It was a day full of emotion at this year"s British Open. The winner (Zach Johnson) fought back tears in an interview. One of the greatest golfers on the planet (Jordan Spieth) went down fighting in his march toward history. And an amateur (Paul Dunne) started the day leading one of the most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, before falling apart. The winner: Johnson, who says he"s just an ordinary guy from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, took home the Claret Jug. "I can"t. I"m at a loss for words," Johnson, with tears in his eyes, said in a TV interview moments after the playoff. Golf"s No. 2-ranked player: History was hovering above Spieth all week, but in the end, he choked on one hole under the pressure of a grand slam. Here"s the moment it all came to an end. "Today was a really tough day. ... I just wish I had given myself a little better opportunity," Spieth said. Golf fans felt the magnitude of the loss. The amateur: Dunne looked incredibly nervous during the final round, which is to be expected. After all, imagine yourself at 22 on the leaderboard. See how he fell apart.

The U.S. and Cuba do some more making up

The U.S. and Cuba got one step closer on Monday toward normalizing relations by re-opening the Cuban Embassy in Washington, D.C. It was the first time Cuba"s blue, red and white-starred flag was flown there since the U.S. broke off diplomatic relations with the communist country 54 years ago. President Obama and Cuban President Ral Castro announced in December the two countries would end their five-decade diplomatic freeze. The ceremony drew pro- and anti-Cuban protests. Pro-Cuban demonstrators said relations should never have been broken off to begin with. Anti-Cuban demonstrators said the U.S. needs to force human rights changes in Cuba, not get cozy with Castro. One of the next big questions for the U.S.: Whether to repeal economic sanctions.

Millions of married cheaters today are feeling really betrayed

If you"re an Ashley Madison member, get your divorce lawyer on speed-dial. The dating website, which shamelessly targets married people, was breached by hackers. Millions use the site to start affairs. We don"t know exactly what data werecompromised in the breach, but personal information of some users was posted online. The site owner, Toronto-based Avid Life Media, told everyone things are secure now, and it"s working with law enforcement to investigate this "criminal act." No mention of morality.

Miranda and Blake just became the saddest line in your favorite country song

Country royalty Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are splitting up. (OK, OK, deep breaths.) The singers announced their divorce Monday in a statement to the Associated Press. (You can do it, in and out, in and out.) The two met 10 years ago when they performed together at a CMT concert taping. Shelton proposed in 2010, and they got hitched the following year in Texas. The marriage made them country music"s highest-profile couple, though they were plagued with rumors of relationship trouble. In 2013, after a tabloid magazine questioned the stability of the marriage, Shelton tweeted Lambert, saying, "I just read in a tabloid that our marriage is falling apart!" Lambert tweeted back: "Oh no! Can"t wait to read if we make it or not." (Yes, it"s OK to sob through the irony.) We can"t help but wonder which one will be out first with an epic breakup ballad.

"We are alive. We are intelligent. We must know."

Don"t adjust that radio dial. Orson Welles isn"t around to fool us anymore. A search for real extraterrestrials will be underway soon. World-renowned scientist Stephen Hawking and entrepreneur Yuri Milner announced the launch of a $100 million project aimed at finding whether intelligent life exists in our universe. "Somewhere in the cosmos, perhaps, intelligent life may be watching these lights of ours, aware of what they mean," Hawking said. The 10-year project will use the powerful Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia and the Parkes Telescope in New South Wales, Australia, to survey the million stars closest to Earth. This covers 10 times more sky than previous projects. Hawking says there"s no bigger question than whether there is life beyond Earth. "We are alive. We are intelligent. We must know."
