YesJulz is embroiled in a s*x tape scandal after the Snapchat superstar had an explicit video hit the internet one that could threaten her exploding career and potentially lead to jail time for the person who leaked it.
The social media star, whose real name is Julieanna Goddard, made headlines back in July when a Florida model threatened to release sexually explicit images of YesJulz unless the Snapchat star paid $18,000, the Miami Herald reported. The report noted that 28-year-old Hencha Voigt was arrested on extortion charges along with 43-year-old Wesley Victor.
The report noted that the pair threatened YesJulz with the release of the explicit video and even sent a few pictures as proof that they had indeed hacked it. Police said Victor sent YesJulz a text that told her to send 18K cash you can have them back as I said you dope chick. I like your movment look if I feel any fun business game over your choice.
The issue was out in the public, and it had appeared that YesJulz addressed her s*x tape threat, but this week, a third party somehow got control of the explicit footage and leaked it to the internet. Its not clear if the leak was related to the arrested Voigt and Victor, but the unauthorized release could still mean serious jail time for whoever is responsible.
Federal agencies have taken a hardline approach to those who steal sexually explicit videos and extort the victims. In 2014, 20-year-old Jared James Abrahams was sentenced to 18 months in prison for his plot to gain access to the computers of a number of women, taking sexually explicit pictures and then making them pay money so he wouldnt release them.
As the New York Daily News noted, Abrahams plot hit Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf, who decided to fight back and contacted police rather than pay up. It was her help that allowed FBI to catch Abrahams.
As Bossip noted, the s*x tape could also have a big impact on the growing career of YesJulz. She has already suffered a hit on Twitter, which took away her verified check, the outlet noted.
Her deals with Puma and Pacsun, to name a few, could potentially suffer. With the footage being a top trending topic at the hour, and Julz going radio silent on all social platforms switching to private memes and commentary are naturally being made right and left.
The s*x tape leaked just weeks after YesJulz got her introduction to an audience far beyond Snapchat. The 26-year-old had been featured in a New York Times profile in late June, noting her quickly rising stature within the world of social media stardom.
In doing so, she has accrued a social media fan base including more than 365,000 followers on Instagram, 111,000 on Twitter and 8,800 on Facebook. But it is her Snapchat figure that has set her apart as the latest iteration of the social media star. Unlike the other three platforms, Snapchat does not post the number of followers on a users page. According to her publicist, she has 300,000 viewers (a figure that Snapchat would neither confirm nor deny).
YesJulz also got some high praise from the Huffington Post, which called her the Queen of Snapchat in an April profile.
YesJulz described herself as a mix of celebrity and promoter, telling the New York Times that shes an influencer for brands.
