TradeThread: Cleveland Indians get Andrew Miller

Jason Kipnis, Terry Francona react to Cleveland Indians" trade for Andrew Miller & deadline

Deal with Milwaukee Brewers still pending for Jonathon Lucroy, as he has a no-trade clause to Cleveland.

Last night, the Cleveland Indians made a big splash by winning the heart of Milwaukee Brewers general manager David Stearns and have a deal in place to obtain catcher Jonathon Lucroy. The only hurdle left is Stearns convincing Lucroy to waive his no-trade clause to Cleveland.

That might be easier to do after what occurred this morning.

An upgrade to the bullpen was an area of need for Cleveland. As a unit, the Indians relievers have been worth 1.8 WAR according to Fangraphs.Closer Cody Allen has been good this season with 20 saves and 11.32 K/9, but he also has a high walk rate (3.57 BB/9) and 15.8% HR/FB which is a career high. Adding Andrew Miller now gives the Indians one of the best high-leveragerelievers in the game that is paired up with the best-starting rotation in the game. This is a team that not only can go deep in the playoffs, but may challenge the Chicago Cubs for best team in MLB. Seriously.

Now, what did the Indians give up to acquire Miller.

Clint Frazier is the 24th ranked prospect according to MLBPipeline.com and is the sixth best outfield prospect in the game. He was hitting .276/.356/.469 with 25 doubles and 13 home runs in AA before being promoted to AAA last week. Justus Sheffield is 20 years old and is MLBPipeline"s 95th ranked prospect in the game.

By moving Aroldis Chapman and Andrew Miller, the New York Yankees have added GleyberTorres, Frazier, and Sheffield to their farm system that includes Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez. If the rumors were true and Brian Cashman called about Chris Sale"s availability, the Yankees now have the pieces to make a move to acquire the Condor. Whether that is within the next 24 hours, or in the offseason, remains to be seen.

Just like yesterday, as the day progresses we"ll post new rumors and trade updates below.
