American Legion Post 94, Saguaro SAR chapter celebrate "Boulevard of Flags"

Happy Father"s Day Wishes,Greetings,Sms,Quotes,E-Card,Images,Wallpapers,Whatsapp video

Seven times a year R. H. Johnson Boulevard in Sun City West becomes the Boulevard of Flags thanks to the veterans of American Legion Post 94. Volunteers post 138 American flags from Bell Road to Grand Avenue.

Gerry Berger, Commander of Post 94, presented the history of the tradition at the Match 26th meeting of Saguaro Chapter Sons of the American Revolution.

In 1987 World War II pilot Lloyd Kilmer asked Post 94 to help purchase 50 flags that had flown over the Nations Capitol. With the help of Senator John McCain he was able to secure permission from APS to fly the flags from their light poles.

Many of the flags flown today once decorated caskets of veterans. Those flags have been donated by the families to honor their loved ones. Kilmer was one of the veterans included in Tom Brokaws book "The Greatest Generation."

The Sons of the American Revolution is the leading male lineage society that perpetuates the ideals of the War for Independence. If you have an ancestor who supported the cause of American Independence during the years 1774 1783 you are invited to join the SAR

The Saguaro Chapter is an active group which serves Surprise, the Sun Cities, and all west valley communities. They meet the fourth Saturday of each month from October through May. For information, contact Jan Huber at 623-975-4805.
