Shane Black Wants The Rock In His Doc Savage Movie - Collider
Director Shane Black opened up a few weeks ago about his dream choice for the lead role of Doc Savage --the original super hero of the 1930s -- and his choice?Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
Speaking to Thrillist, Black said, I would very much like to do Doc with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy, saying the movie was on the back burner until Johnson was available.Awww. He even mentioned he was hoping for the cameras to roll on the movie "sometime next year."
Shane Blackhas been attachedto helm Doc Savagefrom a screenplay he co-wrotewith Anthony Bagarozzi (The Nice Guys) and Chuck Mondry (The Nice Guys) since2013. A few years ago, Chris Hemsworths (Thor) name was being touted as a possibleDoc Savage, butfor the director, there can be only one.
Now it seems that Johnson has gotten the memoand thebusy actor (he"s currentlyfilming Baywatch and hasFast and Furious 8 and the Rampage video game adaptation on his busy schedule) hastaken to Instagram to tease his involvement in an upcoming Shane Black movie by writing: I"m reading an outline for a cool movie I"ll make in 2017 (with director Shane Black).
Of course, none of this is an officialconfirmation that Johnson isindeed playing the role, so remember totake it allwith a grain of salt until this piece of potentially awesome newsis actuallyconfirmed.
Doc Savage tells the story ofthe man of bronze who possesses superhuman strength, endurance, intelligence and agility. Abrilliant scientist, inventor and explorer, hespendshis time battling the bad guys and ridding the world of evil. The character began as a series of pulp novels and radio series in the 1930s and "40s.A not-so-good movie, Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze(I"ve included the trailer below JUSTBECAUSE),was produced in 1975 starring Tarzan actor Ron Ely in the title role, and the character also found life in multiple comic book series.
